New York Mets (63-79) at Philadelphia Phillies (80-60)

John Maine (5-4, 4.52) vs. Kyle Kendrick (0-1, 5.06)

Time: 1:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Cloudy, 72
TV: MyPHL 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation

Let’s not talk about last night, a sweep of the day/night doubleheader is the only thing that can erase that memory.

John Maine takes to the hill for the Mets in his first game back in three month.  In nine starts against the Phillies he is 5-0 with a 2.54 ERA.  He’ll give up the occasional home run to the Phillies, but not much else.  It could be another one of those long-ball nailbitters.

On the flip side, Kyle Kendrick has gone even longer without a start in the majors.  He has gone 9-7 with a 3.34 ERA in 24 starts for the Iron Pigs and is 1-1 with a decent 2.70 ERA in four career starts against the Mets.

Allagash Double AleYour Gameday Beer – Allagash Double Ale
With the twin bill on tap for today, we going with Double beers which are brewed in the Dubble Belgian dark ale style. This beer from Maine has complex flavors, so here’s the rundown: nice malt flavors, mild yeast spices, a hint of darker fruit up front which gives it a touch of sweetness, all with a sour finish. This afternoon have it with some grilled steak fajitas for lunch. – By Brian

Huge games..win both and sat will be burried alive… It’s kinda cool Birds are playing at the same time as Reid and boys will provide some much needed comic relief…Then it’s more Phillies tonite and I got tickets….Yeah boy! flava flav. Kyle Kendrick…may the force be with you. Wright and Beltran, tatis, murphy castillio are licking their chops. Throw strikes in good spots and don’t start walking people and you’ll give us a chance to win…BY the way Kendrick. How was Japan???

Kendrick striking out the side first inning? Nice!

Howard not hitting a home run to drive in a run? Nice!

    Off to a good start…

2 baserunners and krazy k didn’t collapse…his change-up has shown much improvement. Nice to see francisco as well.

Wow the Sparrows have just taken the lead against the lowly Panthers on a defense touchdown….one more touchdown so they can make their 17 points for the day….

j reed- i know! right now i’m good with that, small ball takes precedence over anything else. if we scored one instead of two, but that run came on an extra base hit…its not bad news. haha.

And Jackson runs back a punt and actually makes it to the endzone rather then just before good defense and special teams guess thats their new “offensive scam”…so they did get their 17 points ….ya can turn off your sets now…lol

keeg – there are days I don’t think anyone in the line-up can even spell small ball

Ed R. – thanks for reading that post…appreciate your comments. Kendrick looking better but looks a bit shaky out of the stretch.

We’re going to the late game tonight and I’m sitting on the couch going back and forth between the Birds and the Phils. Who else is feeling a three-fer today?!

When’s Ruiz gonna join the double-digit club? He’s the only starter who hasn’t.

Who is this Kyle Kendrick character?

So would they call the game in Florida because it’s gone the full five? Or would they just wait it out as long as necessary because the Nationals have batted more innings than the Marlins?

    Welcome back Kyle.

They’d be within their rights to call the game. It has nothing to do with the Nationals having batted an extra inning. They’d just go back to the score at the end of the last full inning.

that team screws up more scheledules and pitching rotations with rain delays….It’s the friggin tropics…why didn’t league require them to play under a dome. Coors field and Dolphins Stadium…more testament to the idiot behind the wheel of MLB…selig

As long as the home team gets 5 at bats, the game can be called.

    Way to go Kyle.

Is it just me or does Frisco produce whenever he is in the game?

Hopefully he starts the second game and maybe someone else gets the night off? Probably Ibanez.

And the new Marlins stadium will actually have a retractable roof, good thinking by them.

i am watching every fracking second of this game. When i stepped away last night to cut my fracking grass, my Phils lost.

    Raul…ah see you

Raul, do not swing at ball 4.

who is that Kyle Kendrick and what happened to his twin?

Sigh. Not only do we not get any runs in the 7th, it’s 4-2 now. That’s what happens when you leave them loaded – it pumps up the other team just a bit and they seem to hit a little better.

    Oh no… save opportunity.

Great job Kyle. Really showed up today. We appreciate it.

Once again Charlie just leaving his starter in there too long.

Well tough break for KK still pitched well….so now what? whose it gonna be cause they can throw out either madson or lidge….unless they want to watch spectators in the upper deck jump to their deaths like lemmmings

    that’s “they can’t throw….”

    Lidge? Oh jeez!

Ok Brad Lidge…I was hoping to never see him in a save opp again but I guess we will. Oh well. Not like Madson took the bull by the horns. I would say to leave Walker out there but we all know that it won’t happen.

Lidge pitching the 9th oh boy why not leave walker in.

    ed r – lidge is warming up…incoming

oh but apparently they can Jreed. Apparently they can.

Charlie always leaves the starter in too long when the back of the bullpen is at its most inconsistent. It’s like when the closer or set-up guys getting hit he won’t trust anyone.
