Philadelphia Phillies (86-60) at Atlanta Braves (78-69)
Pedro Martinez (5-0, 2.87) vs. Javier Vazquez (13-9, 3.01)
Time: 7:00 p.m at Turner Field in Atlanta
Weather: Rain, 78
TV:MyPHL 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Ryan Howard’s big night and Kyle Kendrick’s stellar relief appearance each played big roles in the Phillies’ sixth consecutive win. The magic number stands at eight, as the Phillies close in on their third consecutive National League East crown.
Heavy rain is in the forecast, so that must mean that Pedro Martinez is on the mound. Lately, he has looked like the Pedro of old. Martinez is coming off a 130-pitch effort in his eight inning shutout against the New York Mets. Hoping Mother Nature does not strike, Pedro will try to improve to a perfect 6-0. Pedro’s last start against the Braves was shortened due to rain.
Martinez will be opposed by Javier Vazquez. In his last three starts, he is 3-0 and has allowed two runs during that span. Against the Phillies this season, Vazquez is 1-1 with a 3.81 ERA. Ryan Howard, who homered twice last night, is batting .364 with two home runs against Vazquez this season.
Tonight’s Lineup: Shane Victorino (gastrointestinal problems) and Carlos Ruiz (sprained wrist) are out of tonight’s lineup.
Rollins (SS), Francisco (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (RF), Ibanez (LF), Feliz (3B), Bako (C), Martinez P.

Your Gameday Beer- Kiltlifter
I’m visiting the Phoenix area and just had this delicious beer brewed by the Four Peaks Brewing Company. Kiltlifter, as the name implies (among other things), was developed in the Scottish Ale style, meaning it possesses a dark amber color and is a tad creamier than a traditional ale (but not as creamy as real Scottish ales). My immediate impression likened it to a thick Yuengling in color, texture and flavor – sweet roasted malts, apple/caramel tastes without the bitterness of a hoppy beer. Have it with a chorizo burrito as is the style here in the desert. – By Brian

justin morneau done for the season which is good news for the tigers and good news for us…the tigers are the contending team that poses the least threat to our BP should we make it to the dance.

thanks braves for not working the count, not that you might want to get our starters out of the game with our fabulous bull pen in the ICU

Repeat; Penn State fans must really be loving the upset of USC. Yeah, I hope that the Huskies and their fans rub it in too. USC and their fans gloated and rubbed it in in no small measure when they beat PSU in the Rose Bowl. Wonder how far USC will fall in the polls?
I love seeing Bobby Cox sitting there in the Braves’ dugout agonizing and griping about the umpire’s balls and strikes calls. No sympathy for Bobby. His Atlanta teams had their way with the Phillies and most other NL teams when they won all those pennants in the 1990s.

I am watching the braves feed. I love mccarthy and sarge but I cant take him anymore
If I lived in philly and had to listen to him nightly id hang myself.
Id rather have silence or finger nails scratching a board.
How does chris wheeler have a job?
He is the worst brodcaster of any form i have ever come across.
Really if i couldnt switch to other teams feeds id not be able to watch
who does he have naked pictures of?
why why why does my team have to have this?
Dibble is great hes sitting here on a crappy nationals team
hell even the mets broadcasters i can stomach
ok theres my rant for the month i cant believe he has this job

I think Sarge brings absolutely nothing to the table and is a complete waste. I don’t mind Wheeler as much but I know that all Phillies fans hate him. Overall, I think the Phillies announcers are a tad below average compared to the rest of baseball. That’s just my two cents.

Sarge i can stomach. Well below average. Do you have the package to hear all the others?
i just had to get it off my chest it is kind of sad to have the team be so good and have this. Sarge doesnt make me physicly ill. Wheeler does.

Andrew, I’ve lived in NYC all my life so in order to hear the Phils, I’ve had to subscribe to MLB extra innings and MLB.tv
Some team’s announcers (White Sox, Cubs, Nats) are blatant homers. Other teams have pretty good announcers (Blue Jays, Reds, Cards and dare I say it, the Mets).
I don’t know why I pay so much attention to the announcers!

Florida and Atlanta are really bad. But I cant wheeler so i am peachtree tv lol
I really like Dibble for the nats he is really hard on the team. To me the SF team is the best in baseball and Mark grace is the best color guy.

Oh i guess the yankees win the yankees the yankees win guy is more annoying than wheeler but its very close
and hes only on a wheeler level when doing that specific call

Dibble is pretty good, but the Nats play-by-play guy is awful. Mark Grace is awesome for Arizona and Jon Miller is so much better doing games without Joe Morgan.
Dibble reminds me of Keith Hernandez, who is not afraid to call out his own team.

John Sterling is THE worst announcer in baseball. I agree with you there.

Pedro never gives up! I love it… Make the score 3-1 or 3-2 by no later than the 6th and we can steal this one big time….

griffin,
Harleson for the Sox is bad…he could be good; he has a good deep voice and decent cadence but other than the Buerle’s perfect game, he celebrates way too much….redefines being a “homer”

I guess only White men with deep voices can announce games huh? Because they’re voices are so “pure”… I mean a black male with a deep voice is so “scary.” Give me a bleeping brake… And certainly not women either…. Right?
