Marlins Philadelphia Phillies (89-64) at Milwaukee Brewers (76-78)

Kyle Kendrick (2-1, 2.70) vs. Braden Looper, RHP (13-7, 5.12)

Time: 7:05 p.m. at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI
Weather: Cloudy, 65 (retractable roof)
TV: CSN
Twitter: Phillies Nation

Pedro can’t go because of a stiff neck, so Kyle Kendrick steps in for a spot start this evening.

Kendrick will make his second start with the Phillies this season, two weeks after shutting down the Mets in the opening game of a double header.  In that game, KK went 7 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs.  In addition, Kendrick has seen action five times out of the bullpen, with four of those being scoreless outings.  He’s been able to locate his pitches and keep hitters off balance, which is an important part of his maturation.  The Phillies need yet another steady performance from him as they try to push that magic number even lower.

Braden Looper will be the starter for the Brewers tonight.  His father, Benny, just happens to be an assistant GM for the Phillies.  The 12-year veteran has seen his fair share of the Phillies during his career, facing the team 60 times with four different teams.  Only three of those 60 have come as a starter, and overall the numbers aren’t pretty.  He’s 3-6 with a 5.10 ERA and has allowed  16 home runs to the Phillies, the most by any opponent.  But as we saw last night with Manny Parra, you shouldn’t put too much stock in the lifetime stats.

Ryan Howard is one Phillie who absolutely owns Looper.  In just six career at bats, The Big Piece has four jacks and five RBI. He’s never struck out against him and has been walked four times. Jimmy Rollins is 9-for-33 lifetime against looper and Chase Utley is 5-for-14.

Odd stat: The Phillies are 32-19 in starts made by Kendrick during his career.  Let’s keep that trend going.

Also, Raul Ibanez is back in the starting lineup after missing the last two games with a stomach virus.

LINEUP: Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Feliz 3B, Bako C, Kendrick P

Snow BeerYour Gameday Beer – Snow Beer
Snow Beer is brewed by the communist-sounding China Resources Breweries Limited brewery out of Beijing, China. The style is European Pale Lager which helps make it better than most domestic Chinese beers, including the more popular Tsingtao. Bubbles permeate the light grassy, vegetable taste (ok, Chinese beers are not the best in the world). Have it with some spicy Szechuan cuisine like Kung Pao chicken. – By Brian

That’s not a half bad idea… Can he throw on consecutive days? That sinker would keep the bombs away…

lol Repeat. The last time I listened to a game in my car while Lidge was pitching was last year when they clinched the division. I was yelling and slamming my steering wheel with my hands. I’ll keep that memory instead of this year’s version

Tracey – yeah sinkerballers as closers isn’t bad except for when they can’t get good sink and then that pitch become an 88 mph meatball right down the middle. It’s a great pitch but as it can burn you real bad esp. when it means the game.

The way we are playing as of late, it may be difficult to win 4 out of the last nine. Ugghh!

Hard to pin all the blame on the pitching when we’ve got three fielding errors.

this team is showing signs of collapse like the 2007 and 2008 Mets. I am very nervous

can we go back to playing the nationals now?

    please?

We have to play the Astros and Marlins. Two teams that have swept the Phillies this year in at least one series. The Braves play the Marlins and Nationals. I am in panic mode.

werth is still on the space juice..

Moyer you are the man! Now score a run and get him the win. Stop it with the collaspe BS. take that to the Mets boards…

If the Phils grab the lead this inning, it might be a good idea to leave Moyer in for the ninth. I don’t care how narrow the lead is.

we need a few runs this inning to ease the tension that you can even feel from all you guys(me too) through this thread…lol

Regardless of this series, Phillies sweep the Astro, no dote a boat it.

Ray…you said it. The Braves keep winning big, and the Phillies keep dropping leads. I want a big inning here to bring that magic number to 3

Maybe that what the ownership needs to wake up…a Mets-like collapse…other than Manuel’s and Dubee’s lunkhead approach to the Lidge Dilemma, this team has played well and compensated for it shortcoming but we needed fresh arms in the pen…christ Lidge is hardly a problem when the rest of the bull pen can’t maintain a lead.. excluding tonight when was the last time the bull pen other than Lidge not giving up a run? It totally dumbfounds me? Esp. when we oozing with mid range prospects.
