Marlins Philadelphia Phillies (89-65) at Milwaukee Brewers (77-78)

Joe Blanton (11-7, 3.82) vs. Dave Bush, RHP (5-8, 6.22)

Time: 2:05 p.m. at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 63 (retractable roof)
TV: MY PHL 17

After dropping the last two games to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies will try to rebound with Joe Blanton on the mound.  However, even if Blanton pitches well, the back end of the bullpen is still a major question mark.

Blanton will try to extend his 13 consecutive scoreless innings streak.  Blanton started the 2009 season poorly, but May 21 was his turning point.  Since that date, Big Joe Blanton is 9-4 with a 2.78 ERA in his last 21 starts.  Blanton pitched a quality start in his last outing against the Brew Crew.

Conestoga graduate Dave Bush will make his second start against the Phillies this season.  On April 23, the right-hander took a no-hitter into the eighth inning.  Matt Stairs homered to break up the no-no and the shutout.  In his last start, Bush gave up five earned runs in 1.1 innings.

This is a big game for the Phillies as they try to split the series.  With the Braves and Marlins still in the picture, Blanton can put the Phillies in better position to clinch this week.  The Brewers have nothing to lose.  All they have to do is player spoiler.

Hitachino Nest White AleYour Gameday Beer – Hitachino Nest White Ale
I tried this beer the other day and the first thing I thought was that my glass was not properly rinsed. When I drank it straight from the bottle and still got the same soapy taste, I realized I was initially mistaken. Fortunately the soapy flavor fades the more you drink this effervescent white ale from Japan. The first impression did not preclude me from enjoying this exotic treat of citrus, ginger and spice. I enjoyed it alongside some Kobe steak and wild mushrooms. – By Brian

come on phillies. I have confidence that Blanton can focus on today and win this game. Howard, let’s get some home runs to show prince how it is really done. Charlie, show us the manager and the team we fell in love with

2-0 Nats in the first. Back to Back homers. Zim and Wil. Lets go Nats. We win and they lose then we can all take a DEEP breathe.

I am not breathing until this thing is wrapped up.

Ed R. You might want to get yourself a respirator and some muscle relaxants because it’s going to take at least a couple of days to wrap this thing up. As I said earlier when the Mets blew their lead in ’07 in the last 8 games they won 2 and the Phillies lost 3, if the Phils only win 2 and the Braves loose more than one game it’s in the books… Relax and breathe

I am sorry but the way this team has been brain dead on the base paths the last few weeks is unacceptable. Guys stealing third who have no business doing so in counts that would dictate that yo stay on 2nd base…getting picked off at 2nd? How often does that happens? Once a year maybe? Come on. This team is not playing well enough to gift wrap outs to teams.

how many times have we’ve brain farted on the base path this year.

    let’s go ace Blanton

Like I said a week or so ago….we’ll be ok ….its in the cards for a repeat….Charlie just has to re-shuffle….another W/S would really make a statement to the fact of Phillies who are the best of all the teams in Philly hands down…..to me the Eagles again are overrated …and have been with the media and Reid ‘let me clear my throat’…their beating the lowly KC Chiefs ….and Merill is making it seem like it’s Super Bowl…oh well its GO GO PHILLIES…..

Well, they SHOULD have 6, 7 runs. And now they will again have to scuffle against a team that WILL score.
    Doesn’t look good.

This umpire is squeezing a bit.

It’s happening again: offense shutting it down after a strong start. They have to stay after this guy.

6, 7 runs? What are you smoking?

Its only 4 innings? Shut it down? Are you serious?

chase you got to be kidding me. starting hitting already

For a players ump, Charlie is doing an awful job of backing his guy who is clearly and rightfully pissed off about the strike zone he is getting.

That should read players coach, not ump.

Please don’t tell me that I’m smoking anything. Just disagree with me, and be polite about it. I’ve never said anything like that to you.
We might as well also enjoy the double Howard just hit. It’s nice to see him go the opposite way, isn’t it?

Ed, you’re correct. He stuck with Lidge all that time and didn’t do it in this particular case. Seems a bit strange.
Let’s hope for a rally here. And it looks like I misunderstood joedad’s comment – my bad.

mg52, sorry, it was a joke.
They can’t score every time and 4 runs over 3 innings (at the time) is quite a bit of runs.

They have 6, could have 12 but could have 0. I’ll take 6

Braves-Nats are in extra innings. I had some hope that the Nats would throw us a bone.

why might leave a small village on base today. we need to have 15 runs with this bullpen.

OK, Gnats definitely not doing their fair share.

braves win and the phillies who left half of philly on the bases will get beat. let them hang around. down to 4
