Happ to Start Game 3, Lee and Hamels to Follow

J.A. Happ will start Game Three for the Phillies in Colorado Sunday night, according to Jayson Stark (via Twitter,) and Cliff Lee will get the nod for Monday’s Game Four.

Stark went on to write, “Charlie Manuel made it clear today he wants to start as many LHP vs Colorado as he can. And Steve Carlton is unavailable. So Hamels [will start] Gm 5.”

Perhaps Happ was Manuel’s favorite for Game Three all along, but he was unsure if the rookie would be healthy enough to start two days after being struck in the knee in Game Two. Maybe Manuel just looked at scouting reports – or even Phillies Nation in the last few days, and was struck over the noggin with common sense.

The Rockies splits vs. lefties are MUCH worse than their splits vs. righties. They had the highest OPS in the National League vs. right-handed pitching.

Manuel’s explanation for the switch was simply, “It’s been 10 or 11 days since Pedro Martinez pitched in a game. And also, the weather had something to do with it.”

Should the Phillies-Rockies series go to five games, the Phils would become the first major league team to ever start left-handed pitchers in all five games of an NLDS.

Potential Start Times for Game Four

Stark also outlined the following scenarios that would change the potential start times for Monday’s Game Four:

Yankees AND Angels lose Sunday: the Phillies will likely play Monday at 2:00 pm.

Yankees OR Angels sweep: Phillies play Monday at 5:00 pm.

Yankees AND Angels sweep: Phillies play Monday at 7:00 pm.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll be rooting for Andy Pettitte and Scott Kazmir.

OMFG Why are the Phillies getting shafted on start times!?!? It’s not all about ratings, Bud. You have done nothing in your career as commissioner that can possibly be construed as intelligent. You are a money hoarder asshole who should be ashamed of what you have done to America’s Past Time. Please die.

    # Joe Buck Says:
    October 10th, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Vin, excuse me, old man. You have it all wrong. The Cardinals. My Cardinals. My father’s Cardinals, are going to the next round. We’re coming back and spanking you and all your East L.A. thug fans all over the place.

Joe, can we put you in the hotel room with Poo-holes? You enjoy that stuff….

Joe Buck is the happiest person on the earth. He will be calling the ALCS on FOX this year Yankees vs Angels/Redsox. He loves the yankees and his buddy timmy will praise the Yankees until the end of world. Poor angels fans Joe will hate you like he did us last year.

I was so into the Phillies all year long. Now with all these delays and three days off, I cant get into anymore. Sorry. Stop the season in August and play playoffs in September. Its not the same anymore. Go Flyers.

Easy solution to all of this scheduling crap: Make the season 160 games, or even 150…what kind of number is 162 anyway?

If you make the season 150-154 games, you can make the DS series a best-of-seven, which it SHOULD be, since no team that has played for six months straight deserves to have their season abruptly END after falling down 0-2.

This way, even in a year like 2009 when the season started late because of the WBC, you don’t have the playoffs going into November. A few less reg. season games won’t hurt anything, the races will still be as tight, etc.

It’s such a ridiculous system that isn’t changed because the powers-that-be are too lazy to change it.

Yea I guess they can’t change the schedule like that but it would of been nice because cardinals and dodger were supposed to play at 3:30 which 1:30 colorado time which is perfect…I hate bud selig and mlb the nfl makes them look like dumb and dumber.

Alright Jeff, let’s be realistic. You don’t really care that much about the Phillies if you’re going to give up on them because of a few crappy game times.

Sorry Philsphan I live in and die with this team all year long. Ask my wife. She wont go near me after a big lose. This is not baseball. How can you get into this. Baseball is a poorly run sport. I am very happy we won the big series last seasn but waiting to play the last three innings days later. NOT THE SAME. MOVE ON TO HOCKEY.

Jeff you’re a pathetic excuse for a fan.
    PATHETIC

if you “live and die” with this team..then you WOULDNT GIVE UP ON THEM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLAYOFFS IN A 1-1 SERIES

you have no control over the start times, when the playoffs start or the weather…

so your solution is to give up? and watch Ray Emery BLOW

good, give up then…because you’re pathetic in the first place…

any one who “lives and dies” with the team wouldn’t just give up on them because a game got washed out and the start times are weird..

last year they had day games…
and they are in the west now..
    wtf do you want??

    is selig good? no…

but for you to sit here and say you give up on them?

    YOU’RE PATHETIC

    GO BUY A METS HAT

I agree, the start times suck.

I do find it annoying that the Red Sox and Yankees ALWAYS automatically get the prime time games. The Phils are now one of the premier franchises, right up there with the Sox and Yanks.

But let’s just win this series. If we reach the NLCS, we won’t have to worry start times……

Did anyone see former Phillies pitcher Vincente Padilla pitch for the Dodgers today against the Cardinals? Pitched 7 shutout innings, allowing only 4 hits. Wonder how the Phils would do against him? Former Phillies manager Larry Bowa was instrumental in the Dodgers picking up Padilla after he was released by Texas this past summer. Evidently Padilla pitched for Bowa when both were in Philly.

they should move the schedule back to 154 games…did anyone hear awhile back about buck showalters idea of brining both leagues together?

Ah, life is soooo good right about now…. Except for the “I can’t drink because I’m a recovering alcoholic part.” Do you have any idea how hard it was to watch my team drink and spray each other with champagne while I watched from the team bus…. All I had was cider dude… This is the 2nd time in the last week. Not cool…

After sitting through last year’s WS game 5, part 1, I can say with conviction; “Bud Selig is a dic*head and should not be the MLB commissioner. He needs to hold his ground at some point with the start times. Instead he gets played like some sort of marionette with the networks pulling the strings. If he agrees to these unplayable start times then he should dress up like a ball girl and be made to work in them!!!”
    GO PHILS!!!

… and take Rollins off the Jeltz Award already. We win and loose as a team in the playoffs!
    GO PHILS!!!

Jeff goes through these phases but comes right back. Now he can only turn to hockey, I guess because there is no more Arena League???

    Start times suck

If the game time for the phillies had to be moved to 12midnight to accomodate for the yankees, they would probably do it without any thoughts. It is very very annoying

Jeff, you have been dissing this team all season on here, and I’m not talking about venting, it’s more than that with you. You are the true definition of a front-runner, when they lose , everyone sucks, you call Charlie every name in the book, when they win, you act like you never said any of that stuff. To say because of the start times/cold weather you can’t get into it..really, seriously, and you call yourself a diehard fan? Your team is in the freakin’ playoffs, and you can’t get into it because the timing doesn’t suit you personally? Speaking as a LOYAL fan of the Phillies, I think it’s safe to say they could do without your so-called support.

Sorry about the rant, but this Jeff character is a poor excuse for a Phillies fan.

Oh, and for the record, I think it’s ridiculous to be playing baseball this late in the year, it is indeed football and hockey weather, but if the Phillies were playing in Siberia in January, I would still be stoked and watching every inning (except the 9th with Lidge).

Georgie, good post in regards to Jeff. Could not agree with you more. A loyal diehard fan of the Phillies should be supporting this team thru thick and thin.
