Philadelphia Phillies (1-0) at Los Angeles Dodgers (0-1)

A couple of old horses face off today in L.A.  Just about 14 hours after the conclusion of Game 1, the Phillies and Dodgers will do battle once again with Pedro Martinez taking the hill against ex-Phil Vicente Padilla.

Pedro has not pitched since September 30 against Houston, so lets hope there isn’t too much rust.  He has tossed only seven innings since throwing 130 pitches against the New York Mets back on September 13.  There is some pressure on Martinez to come out of the gate quickly, without incident, because he has a penchant for giving up early runs.  Opponents hit three home runs in nine first-innings against Pedro this season with the Phillies.  He’s given up a total of six runs in those nine starts. After that, he normally calms down, as he has proven with his four runs allowed from the fourth to the sixth innings of his starts.

Vicente Padilla is a surprising start in Game 2 for the Dodgers. The guess here is that Joe Torre did not want Padilla pitching in Philly on a cold night with hostile fans berating him. Smart move.  Padilla has been nothing short of brilliant since being picked up, going 4-0 through seven starts. However, he struggles mightily in the middle innings, something the Phillies offense will surely pick up on.  The Phillies have scored 18 runs between the fourth and sixth innings in five playoff games in ’09.  Look for the trend to continue, although a few early on couldn’t hurt either.

The Good: Brad Lidge coming in and nailing it down for yet another save.  Is he back to his old ways?  Also, Ryan Howard now has 8 RBI in five games this postseason.  Look out, Reggie Jackson.

Tonight’s Lineup: Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (RF), Ibanez (LF), Feliz (3B), Ruiz (C), Hamels (P).

KenzingerYour Gameday Beer – Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
While enjoying this afternoon game, grab some delicious Dogfish 120. It’ll make you hop, for sure.  It is continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month & aged for another month on whole-leaf hops. The 20% ABV make this more like jungle juice than beer, but it should give you a nice dayload as the Phils look to take Game 2.  Enjoy with some charred burgers and beans, but prepare for a rough Saturday morning. Hop to it. – By Pat

Who cares if the announcers are pro-Dodger? Let the babies have thier bottle. I’ll just take a Phillies win.

Pedro is dealing. The 3 morons really seem to want him out of the game.

The announcer got pretty excited when pedro forced that last pop out. I’m done with complaining about them, it’s showing that our fans have some kind of inferiority complex

Maybe next year the League will realize that the Phillies games have been the best games of the playoffs so far and put them on in better time slots.

Charlie really should consider dropping Jimmy to 6th or 7th. This is painful.

I’d totally send Howard here 0-2, no one would see it, it will be a breaking ball for sure.

Very different game today than yesterday. This ump has a wide strike zone while yesterdays ump had a postage stamp size zone. Todays pitchers are on of just off the corners and not pitching over the plate. Hitters are a bit gassed after playing 4 hours last nigh and turning around to play the next afternoon in 90+ degree heat.

The Phillies are giving away a lot of at-bats. So far this series they have played pretty poorly. But they won the first game, and have a 1-0 lead in the 7th. All the pressure is on the Dodgers. The Phillies are in a great position right now.

I am so sick of the term walk-off. Drives me nuts. It makes Stuart Sacott too excited.

Madson threw a lot of pitches yesterday, the only way he would play today would be as a last option in a long extra inning game

What if MANroid got a hit here. Be a circle jerk in the booth.

Just think if the TBS broadcasters were here they could explain to you all what a circle jerk is.

7th inning the dodgers fans have been there for 3 innings so far and now it’s time for the dodger faithful to start heading towards the exits

I dunno – I might leave old Pedro in. But I’m not going to start second-guessing Charlie here.

Manny hit a few foul balls hard and the last out was hit hard, the first hard hit ablls in the game by the Dodgers. He totally dominated.

I would like to run my gingers through Mannys hair and give him a massage. Just to touch greatness.

Why is Charlie taking Pedro out? WHY???
The offense has been flat and one pinch-hitter isn’t going to change it. Greg Dobbs is going to get out and then we’ll be praying for Madson and Lidge to somehow both be lights-out.

Because Pedro was great. and hes older and he deserves to leave with the lead.

alright Chan Ho. Make us proud.

Dave with a one run lead, you cant afford to wait and see when Pedro will run out of Gas. You have to anticipate, and trust your bullpen can get it done…

Cna’t blame Cholly for taking him out there. He pitched great but was near 90 pitches after not pitching for about a month. Need to get 6 more outs.

all year every relief pitcher the first hitter faced gets on. I bet its an all time record and its mostly bad luck

Great pitching by both Pedro and Padilla. One run games and and our BP scare me though…..

With Pedro at fewer than 90 pitches and working on a shoutout through the 7th, versus our bullpen? I’d trust Pedro.

But then again, there is a reason I’m sitting at home on a computer and Charlie’s managing the WFC

I hope Charlie calls our timeout from the dugout when the Dodgers are in mid strectch like last night.
