Colorado Rockies (0-0) at Philadelphia Phillies (0-0)

Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP (0-0) vs. Cliff Lee, LHP (0-0)

Time: 2:37 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny, Windy, 65
TV: TBS

And now, for what you have all been waiting for.  The Philadelphia Phillies start their run to repeat at 2:37 today.

Cliff Lee makes his first career postseason start in Game 1, and will face off against Ubaldo Jimenez, the man who helped close out a sweep against the Phillies in 2007.  Lee may be a newcomer, but his credentials speak for themselves in the regular season – let’s hope it translates to October baseball.  In August, Lee faced the Rockies in his second start with the team, and did quite well. He held the Rox to just one run over seven innings while fanning nine.  The Fightin’s fans will surely take a similar effort today.

Jimenez pitched 6 1/3 innings back in ’07 against the Phils and struck out five while giving up just one run.  The silver lining there is he walked four batters, and he’s been known to do that a lot.  With some patience, the Phillies can get to Jimenez early and often.

Couple that with the winds today, and we could have an exciting offensive match up.  The wind is blowing from left field out to right, giving the slew of lefty bats for the Phillies some leverage.  Let’s hope the jet stream grabs an Utley fly ball, helping him to get moving here in the early goings of the playoffs.

Be prepared Phillies fans…this is October.

Today’s Lineup: Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (LF), Ibanez (LF), Feliz (3B), Ruiz (C), Lee (P).

Post Road Pumpkin AleYour Gameday Beer – Post Road Pumpkin Ale
Oktoberfests aren’t the only beers appropriate for the month of October – you’d be surprised how you can make a beer that tastes like pumpkin but isn’t gross. The Brooklyn Brewery secret for this beer is to mask most of the pumpkin flavor with spices such as cinnamon, brown sugar, clove and nutmeg. Though not the best pumpkin beer out there, it is definitely one worth trying on this crisp afternoon of playoff baseball. Have it with some roast turkey, like in one of those Gobbler sandwiches from WaWa. – By Brian

GO PHILLIES!

Lopes obviously has Jimenez read on every pitch. No way he sends Lee and Howard otherwise, and it took somebody as slow as Howard to not steal.

What a couple of innings. This team is doing everything they should have done in the regular season. The look on Jimenez’s face said everything. He looked like he was about to cry.

why do they insist on callig it 5+
He pitched 5 innings not 5 plus. If you look at his stats he pitched 5 innings.

I didn’t say anything sick, all I did was try to quiet the troll with a little John Elway comment nothing more.

5+ because he came out in the 5th but didn’t get an out rather than not coming out at all which would be a straight 5

comeon boyz, keep up the good work. We’ll be able save Happ and Eyre for when we really need them.

    its 5 innings
i guess its batters faced but no where on any career stats will the plus show up. He pitched 5 innings

Holy hell that might be the worst call I have ever seen. It was not even close. J-Roll could have stopped on the bag and had a drink before that ball got there.

This is not the same rockies team as years ago. More importantly this isnt the same phillies team that got swept away with hardly a fight.

rollins was safe on that one. wow.

    Makeup call

There are times when the espn stats guys pull up the statline of a previous start and its marked as +. It’s looks better on the Phils for Jiminez to go 5+ because the record shows he came back out and still couldn’t get it done.

Looks like Happ will be making a start in this series.

LETS GO PHILLIES!!! KEEP IT UP Clifton so that we can save Blanton and Happ!

ok we’re even though ours cost us a run..but that’s ok now they can’t cry about us getting all the breaks

I figured that on the Rockies make up call we wouldn’t get screwed out of a run. Well now its all evened up. Bastards.

OK so we have lost a run on a bad call
but its already been shown now that we have bad umpiring. Why does this always happen to us. I will never forget that moyer call last year and there were others.
