Gameday 2009, Posts
Colorado Rockies (0-0) at Philadelphia Phillies (0-0)
Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP (0-0) vs. Cliff Lee, LHP (0-0)
Time: 2:37 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Sunny, Windy, 65
TV: TBS
Twitter: Phillies Nation
And now, for what you have all been waiting for. The Philadelphia Phillies start their run to repeat at 2:37 today.
Cliff Lee makes his first career postseason start in Game 1, and will face off against Ubaldo Jimenez, the man who helped close out a sweep against the Phillies in 2007. Lee may be a newcomer, but his credentials speak for themselves in the regular season – let’s hope it translates to October baseball. In August, Lee faced the Rockies in his second start with the team, and did quite well. He held the Rox to just one run over seven innings while fanning nine. The Fightin’s fans will surely take a similar effort today.
Jimenez pitched 6 1/3 innings back in ’07 against the Phils and struck out five while giving up just one run. The silver lining there is he walked four batters, and he’s been known to do that a lot. With some patience, the Phillies can get to Jimenez early and often.
Couple that with the winds today, and we could have an exciting offensive match up. The wind is blowing from left field out to right, giving the slew of lefty bats for the Phillies some leverage. Let’s hope the jet stream grabs an Utley fly ball, helping him to get moving here in the early goings of the playoffs.
Be prepared Phillies fans…this is October.
Today’s Lineup: Rollins (SS), Victorino (CF), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (LF), Ibanez (LF), Feliz (3B), Ruiz (C), Lee (P).
Your Gameday Beer – Post Road Pumpkin Ale
Oktoberfests aren’t the only beers appropriate for the month of October – you’d be surprised how you can make a beer that tastes like pumpkin but isn’t gross. The Brooklyn Brewery secret for this beer is to mask most of the pumpkin flavor with spices such as cinnamon, brown sugar, clove and nutmeg. Though not the best pumpkin beer out there, it is definitely one worth trying on this crisp afternoon of playoff baseball. Have it with some roast turkey, like in one of those Gobbler sandwiches from WaWa. – By Brian
GO PHILLIES!

I agree completely. It was so nice to listen to a Phillies game that A. didn’t include Wheels and B. wasn’t nothing but nonstop anti Phillie sentiment. It was beautiful. Not as beautiful is Clifton Phifer Lee.

i’ve never been to a town or knew a fan who didn’t say the announcers were biased against their team. It’s perception not reality.

I really didn’t hear any anti-Phillie sentiment, you have no idea what you’re talking about. If anything MLB would pull for the Phila market over Denver.

It is reality. I have the package and get to hear all the announcers.
Troy aikman for example who I thought would be anti philly is not.
Mccarver is terrible. I cant imagine Buck and Mccarver in a phillies – cardinals series. Considering they are both Cardinals guys.
Fox is pretty bad these guys are better.

no we are saying these announcers were fine. Even though the one is the regular braves guy.
No the announcers were fine today. Better than fox and better than Chris wheeler.

it’s perception andrew. cowboys fans cry all the time about aikman. they think he’s unfair to the cowboys because he played for the cowboys. it’s a fact

Too bad about that run in the ninth but a great game from a great team today. The bullpen is not an issue then the starters deal like Lee did today. Spectacular work after a shaky September. This was the hottest team in the NL going into the post season and we managed to stop them cold in Game 1. Now we got momentum and Hamels tommorrow.

i meant to say cowboys fans think aikman should be more pro dallas and they think he is unfair to them. anyways, when the phillies and eagles play i’m usually listening to the radio. i like to hear the homers..lol

I am sayig for me it isnt. I like about every single announcing team more than Chris Wheeler. I am not a homer. The fox coverage is very bad. Id love to have jsut the San Fran announcers do every game.
Mccarver is very very bad. He is like wheeler on roids.

Sorry. What I meant to say was, TBS, or atleast the game I just watched the announcing was great. Fair and unbiased. Last year when I had to watch it on Fox, friggin Joe Buck was such a Philly hater. I swear to God he must have had I had Philadelphia written on his forehead. It drove me crazy.

You know things are going well for the Phightins when people are bitching about the announcers rather than the Phils.
They played like world beaters today. Now lets win tomorrow so I can watch a stress free clincher on Saturday with many a brew in hand

I am a homer that’s why harry kalas and merril reese are the best. When their team does good you can feel the intensity. When we suck you can feel the disappointmen

For some reason I kind of like the twins to make it competetive.
All this added adversity of the game last night might just help them.
Its going to be snowing on saturday. Who likes the cold more Pedro Happ or Blanton?

i meant to say kalas was the best. joedad there’s really nothing else to say except the phils were excellent today..lol…i guess i’m disappointed because harry didn’t get to call that final out with the enthusiasm that gives you goosebumps. Jreed hit it on the button they were flat, but yes objective
we can also start discussing happ for game 3 if he doesn’t need to pitch in relief tomorrow. I think charlie was saying that when he said we’ll see how tomorrow goes. In fact, without a doubt happ will start if he’s not needed tomorrow. In my mind
