Your probably right Chuck. Then I would only start Hamels once depending on how Pedro pitches tonight. I definately would pitch Lee in 4 so we can have him if need be for a game 7

I don’t think Lee will go in 4, but rather 5….so he wouldn’t pitch in game 7?

Correct me if I’m wrong but Hamels is scheduled to pitch game 3… our game 6 starter would not be Hamels unless you think that he’s going to pitch on short rest (which he won’t). Even if Lee pitches on short rest, Hamels would not be ready to pitch game 6 so our game 6 starter would be Pedro…. with a spot start in game 5 for Happ or Blanton. Game 7 would be Lee or Hamels… if he’s ready, it would almost have to be Lee.

I really don’t want to jump the gun here, but with Cliff pitching the way he is in is relatively young career with teh phils, I would like to proclaim him as the “New Lefty” of our generation. I agree with DaveB it is nice to have someone from the opposing team appreciate a well play game and from Daktari *cough* Mets fan *cough*. Thanks for the support and I really think next year will be a fun year provided we don’t get a bunch of obnoxious Mets fans spamming up the site. I think we go to 6 games tho with us winning. My prediction for the rest of the series for what it is worth is Game 2 Us, Game 3 Them, Game 4 Us, Game 5 them, and Hamels comes up big in Game 6. I know it might be a pipe dream but Im optomistic. GO PHILS!

This will go down as one of the single greatest performances in postseason history… pitching in his first World Series game on the road in Yankee stadium facing one of the most potent lineups ever crafted and dueling the ex-Cy Young winner (and CC was dealing), Cliff Lee shows up with icewater in his veins. I’ve used the term “surgical” to describe Lee and I think that’s pretty accurate… a good surgeon is good because he can remain focused and calm in the most dire of situations. The Phillies almost needed to win in order for us to have any chance in this series and Cliff Lee made sure that happened. It was almost as if he was saying, “Is that all you’ve got?”

Let’s see if the Phillies can keep it going tonight. Let’s see if the pressure to win is too much for AJ Burnett’s shoulders. If he lets the pressure of being a Yankee in the World Series get to him, we could see a crooked number on the board early. We forced the Yankees to burn a lot of pitchers last night… another stressful night on that pen could be tough to overcome.

Agree it is far from over, but that was one outstanding pitching performance by Cliff. Even though I have tickets to game 5, I would not mind a sweep, but I truely do not think that is going to happen.
Phillies were the more patient team last night, and need to be again tonight. Would love to see Phillies go home up 2-0. The bats will have to show up tonight.
Chase is the Man, three great at bats for him. And the Phillies are already in the bull pens head, they have just been destroying bull pens all post season.

Pedro will be lights out tonight. He will have his A game as he THRIVES in these situations.

Keep in mind that have Blanton, Myers and Happ for long relief even if Pedro can only go five. If he can mix it up like Lee things bode well. Burnett is basically a power pitcher with a few curveballs. If were patient, which is what we’ve been we can capitalize early. His stuff has been flat. I think Rollins breaks out with the bat tomorrow.

Burnett doesn’t make it to the 6th inning tomorrow. I expect the patience of the Phillies lineup to drive him crazy and with Rollins, Vic, and Utley squeezing the sh*t out of the strike zone don’t be surprised if Burnett can’t buy a strike. Which Pedro will we see? Well who knows, maybe we won’t see 7 shutout but I fully anticipate Pedro gives the Phils a quality start and leaves the game with a lead. If the bullpen holds up chalk up tomorrow for the Phillies and a 2-0 series lead coming back home.

man cliff lee was brilliant i though hamels was good last year but wow…were gonna need to bring the bats tomorrow because i don’t think pedro can shut down the yankees like he did the dodgers and we aren’t at dodgers stadium which is a pitchers paradise…we beat cc sabathia who is much better then burnett and burnetts had shakey starts this post season,i say just tell the hitter to be patient because i’ve seen burnetts starts and he’s all over the place throwing balls down in the dirt and walking em.

Yea, the Phillies and Yankees looked real evenly matched in the Phillies 6-1 victory. Two very evenly matched teams, except that one team scored 6 runs while not looking their best while the other was lucky to get 1 run.

Also, Bobby V back on ESPN is great.

first of all morris thats a john sterling impression.

second of all: i am a yankee fan and i was at the game tonight. the phillies were clearly the better team, and i think cliff lee’s performance was the best pitching performance against the yankees so far this season. congrats to the phils

that being said, this series is far from over. nobody knows what to expect from pedro or AJ tomorrow night, and i think that game could go either way. honestly, given hamels’ struggles recently, i do expect pettitte to out pitch him, and we’ll see where cc and lee take us in game 4. i expect the yankees to win some games- i think this game was the wakeup call they needed.

i think this is a seven game series between the two most evenly matched world series opponents since the 2002 series.

i cant make a prediction in a seventh game, because its pretty dumb to say that two teams will be even with each other through 6 but this team will win the seventh game

all im saying is that this series is far from over

I just LOVE this team!

They come to play. World Series against the Yankees? CC on the mound? No worries, because the Phils will show up and try to whoop your ass in Yankee Stadium or wherever.

This team just comes up big in big spots. And Lee fits in perfectly with their demeanor. Filthy just isn’t a just description for what he did tonight.

We all knew they wouldn’t awed by the moment.

Yanks better pray that A.J. Burnet has that good curveball tomorrow or they’re in trouble.
