Let’s not bullshit each other. The Phils’ season is really over. Now is the time for post-season humiliation. The Phils had a fine year, they won their division fairly easily, but they saw in September what will be ahead of them come 2010 — namely the Braves and Marlins. Both teams are hungry and will not wear out (get tired) during the last month of the season.
HERE IS WHAT THE PHIL NEED:
    *Better bullpen and closer
*Trade jayson Werth for a pitcher like Roy Halladay.
*Sign Chone Figgins as a legitimate leadoff man that will steal bases,
put pressure on the pitchers and have an on-base-percentage near
    400.
*Bring up Michael Taylor and let him start in right field
*Consider platooning Ben Franscisco steadily with Victorino 7 Ibanez.
Francisco is an excellent fielder and will become an
excellent player (25 hrs, .280 avg.)
*Trade Cole Hamels for some “sturdy” prospect pitcher that has a
bright future. Cole is too brittle and you will see this in the post-
season. Plus you will get something for him if you unload him now.
Also, consider him in a deal for Halladay and Werth. Holliday and
a solid reliever for Werth and Hamels.
*Sign Meyers if he takes a deep pay cut and consider him also in a
key relief role to start the season.

Prince Fielder’s bat …. you should never be a GM.. those are some of the worst suggestions I’ve ever seen

Especially considering that Halladay is going to become a Free Agent .. and probably a $25 M per year pitcher after next season .. and the Phillies plan to keep the payroll around $100-125 M

You can’t have one player make that high a percentage of your total payroll, especially a guy that only plays in 35 of the 162 games

Don M — a GM is not in the cards for either of us. But if you cannot get Halladay, there are likely OTHER pitchers available for a solid player like Werth who will never be worth more than he is worth this year. Plus we have two studs in the minors. Let’s not bring up Taylor late like we did with Howard. Also, I truly believe that Jimmy Rollins would be a much better sixth or seventh hitter, based on his lifetime OBP. Remember: a baseball team is a fluid operation and change is not only important but absolutely critical if you are to continue winning.

I like this clear and confident thinking

The Phils need to win now and worry about the off season in November. Another World Championship would do wonders for this
    old cynical city.

also … I would imagine that the trade value of Michael Taylor, or Domonic Brown would be about the same as Werth (since Taylor or Brown could be under salary control for a coule seasons)

Werth is the only legit RH power threat we have..
his numbers this year were increadible .. and I expect him to have similar seasons over the next few years.. as he really hasn’t hit his “prime” yet

Werth will be 32 next year.

…. and he is a really good player who I hope stays with Philly.

Werth just turned 30 in May of this season

If you are going to trade an Outfielder … trade Ibanez

After Ibanez’ second half and lofty contract combined with his advanced age — only an assisted-living team would have interest, if he can pay to fees to live there. He is entering “The Platoon Zone” quickly. It is good we have Ben Francisco to help him with lefties.

Prince Fielder’s Bat… just curious, what does Prince do with you in the offseason? It’s obvious he doesn’t pick you up because he might be a few pounds lighter if that were the case. It looks like Prince spends his entire offseason eating small children.

Save the armchair GM’ing for a Brewers blog… the Phillies are still playing baseball and as long as that’s the case, we’re STILL the defending World Champions.

We cruise in the first round… our bats have started to come alive and the extra rest will help this pitching staff. Phils in 4 in round 1.

Pay no attention to the trolls behind the curtain.

I wondered what happened to Jody Mac. The midday show is nowhere near as good with the 2 they have now. He was a good baseball guy.

Joedad: He’s still in the Philly Area, just on to other things. Support his show on Satellite radio if you have it. Him and Dibble are great.

Hey Original Chuck P —- I love pissing off nut jobs like you. You do not know much about baseball and it shows. You simply are not smart enough to be an armchair GM. So, resort to your lame name calling and make me laugh some more. You dummy.
