Cole’s a good dude. He was VERY accessible to the fans at Spring Training this past year and I think he really appreciates this city and its fans….genuinely. That’s why stuff like what happened last night is disappointing. It’s probably over with in the clubhouse…..at least let’s hope so.

No, Don, I don’t think that’s ever going to change, which is why I’ve always said Cole will not stay here beyond his contract. I really like him too, and he and Heidi do alot of charity stuff so I have to give him credit there. I also completely misjudged Heidi, formed an opinion based on her looks, and after hearing her speak, she is an intelligent, compassionate person trying to make a difference in the world. I think they are both good people, and I remind myself to not form opinions based on haircolor and fake body parts.

Yeah, that little temper tantrum by Cole was really uncool, and I heard the guys on csn postgame say that someone, probably Chase or Jimmy, would address it with Cole after the game. Ya know though, as close as these guys are and have been for years now, I’m sure they all know each others’ little “personality traits”, and maybe it’s no big deal to them that he does that. Maybe it’s like a running joke in the clubhouse and Cole’s in on it, almost like they expect him to throw a hissy, they’re used to it, and just chalk it up to “Cole being Cole”. Not excusing him at all, but he’s done it before, and so far it doesn’t seem to bother them.

Ahhh, the announcers-so unbelievably bad, how are there not more people out there who can call a ballgame in an unbiased yet entertaining manner? When the guy in the god-awful ugly suit just walked away from Lidge to talk to Raul, I turned to my husband and said “did he really do that?” Um, yep! How completely unprofessional!

Well, no more b!tching, thrilled they won, but a little sad that I had to shut myself in the bathroom for the bottom of the 8th and 9th….

Great posts that reflected my feelings. I was so irritated with Hamels’ behavior, especially when it focused on Utley and Rollins, two guys who without them the Phils would be also rans. It took audacity to throw a temper tantrum like that. Daulton and Ricky Bo went ballistic discussing that after the game. Dutch said Hamels would be having his teeth taken out if he did that while Daulton was catching. I think Hamels is a spoiled kid… but would love to see him pitch a no hitter like any other Phillies fanatic.

I enjoyed listening to Franske’s calls of the homers when listening to recaps on CSN. I noticed the bias of the TBS announcers but decided to ignore it as I am somewhat used to the no respect. Darling is a Mets pretty boy who trashes CBP while on air for Mets games. That guy doing the post game interviews is a joke. That’s why I turned it to Post Game Live, to get the real excitement from Barkann and Botallico with Daulton added to the mix.

Seats empty??? I always get to CBP early for playoff games to revel in the atmosphere outside the park. I don’t get any other way.

I’m sure people’s opinions will differ on Padilla, but I certainly have my own. We’ve seen how not clutch he is first hand when he was in Philadelphia. All that’s happened since is he’s gotten older. I fully expect our boys in red stripes to rip him a new one, so to speak.

Great point, Chuck P….Charlie may drive us nuts at times with his seemingly overuse of the loyalty card……but it’s true….come playoff time it’s a whole different game.

How he handled Lidge this year has been the topic of so much anguish and controversy. But what he did the last day of the season was brilliant…he brings Lidge for one batter to boost his confidence but, more importantly, to boost the confidence of the fans….because they in turn will stay behind Lidge and boost his confidence even further.

Charlie may sound like a stupid country boy…but he’s one of the smartest, most understanding of his players kind of manager I have ever seen. He’s exemplifies what a true leader really is. The best manager of anything knows how to motivate his people and get the best out of them.

I expect Padilla to be bad… really bad. This is the type of game that Padilla Blow-tillas. He pitched well against the Cardinals in St. Louis that was not a must win by any stretch of the imagination; already up two games in the series, the Dodgers were in cruise control… they also afforded him a couple of early runs to ease the tension. Everyone knows that tonight is a MUST WIN for the Dodgers and rest assured he will feel the pressure. I expect a tense crowd… an early start in LA (high noon on the west coast) means that the crowd will be a little bit quiet and certainly tense after last night. We have to keep a very close eye on Pedro; if he’s not dealing, we have to look towards Blanton early. I think that we jump on Padilla early, get into the pen and tack on a couple of runs. Initially, I though that it would be 10-5 but I’m thinking 6-2… Torre won’t let Padilla give up more than 3-4 runs. Pedro gives up 2 in the 6th and we get a two inning relief appearance from Big Joe followed by a combination Eyre/Lidge save.

The fact that Torre would abandon Hudson for a late season acquisition like Belliard makes me appreciate what Charlie does for this team even more. Of course, we weren’t floundering to wrap up the division like the Dodgers were so we could afford to “Dance with the girl that brung us” but Charlie does that stuff because he sees the bigger picture. In October, you need guys like Hudson and Lidge and Rollins and (insert slumping player’s name)… if you go with the Ronnie Belliard’s, you’re really hurting your team because a.) there’s a great chance that the streaky player is going to be cold when you need him the most and b.) the guy that you abandoned won’t have the confidence to step in when you need him.

What’s everyone’s opinion of what to expect from Padilla? Personally, I think his great game against the Cardinals was more of a case of overachievement than anything else. I can’t see any reason why we can’t knock him around pretty good.

I’m really a little surprised that Wolf didn’t pitch either last night or isn’t starting today. You know that our fans are gonna be ALL OVER HIM Sunday night.

Screw the broadcast team .. they want Dodgers-Yankees so that they don’t have to do any research for their stories before the games, etc.. As someone else said.. when the Phillies get big hits, i’ve been yelling and clapping, so I don’t even hear how much or how little they care about the play

My favorite moment from the broadcast team was one of them stated that the reason Manny can not hit a fast ball anymore is because he has yet to get his timing back because of the suspension. The suspension ended in the first week of July. He can’t hit a fast ball because he is off steroids.

I am looking forward to Sunday’s game and will be sure there will be plenty of banners in left field reminding us why Manny can’t hit a fastball anymore.

Not that it makes an impact on the game itself (but certainly on our viewing experiences)…but once this series is over, I’d like to see the audio waveforms of each home run call and compare amplitude, pitch, etc. for home runs by each team. It’s really ridiculous. Damned if they win, damned if they lose.

And the Koufax thing is just absurd.

And Chuck, I was VERY surprised with Sherrill (the walk to Howard was hugeeee, cause he then had to face lefty-killer Werth with a guy on base…), but I wasn’t surprised at all with Rauuuuul getting that 3-run homer! Everyone was talking about Werth, Howard, Chase’s OBP, Hamels…. but many forgot about Rauuul.. I knew he was gonna do something big, especially since I got the impression that people (experts, reporters, fans) kinda forgot about him entering this series.

Similar story with Chooch… On MLB Network, roughly 2 hours before the game, they interviewd Amaro on the field. They asked him something along the lines of which player he likes in this series… and he said CHOOCH, who people forget about because he’s in a lineup of superstars…. and bam, that same day he gets a 3-run dinger!
