The Phils do need bullpen arms, particularly if Eyre doesn’t return. I think left handers are needed most, though. Wagner, however, is too old and too much of a disruption.

As far as “ragging” on players not earning their money, I don’t find that obnoxious. It’s the questioning of attitudes, personal attacks, and the crude name-calling that I don’t like. I don’t think any of the Phils lack mental fortitude, even if they appear to at times. Some of them make regrettable comments and do stupid things off the field, but I think everyone does, particularly when things aren’t going well. But the real head cases are always weeded out; the Phils don’t even sign the Milton Bradleys and John Rockers of the baseball world, and the few duds they’ve had seem to get released pretty quickly. The PED using infielder they tried in spring training and at Lehigh Valley this year got dumped so fast I can’t even remember his name.

I do, however, disagree that he “pussed out.” He most certainly pitched under less than ideal circumstances no matter whose decision it was. And he did still save lot of games.

Fans need to lay off Lidge and Hamels both. A bad year is a bad year, and I’m sure they’ll both get over it. Some so-called fans need to do the same. They also need to stop using such immature and nasty terminology, and stop making personal attacks on a player’s character. Maybe if Hamels or Lidge were serial killers that would be justified. People talk about a player’s selfishness, then demand performances that suit THEMSELVES, make accusations that suit THEMSELVES, and analyze everything in terms of what they THEMSELVES would have done.
