Talking about back up catchers, what about Pudge, would he cost a lot. That would be nice, he has played in big games and would be decent guy to spell Chooch once every two weeks or so. Not sure what his price tag would be, but I know he is out there looking for a team

I saw Sellers play at Reading this year, that night he was hitting like crazy, but the guy who REALLY stood out was Freddy Galvis, who had just been brought up. He has that natural ability at SS, made a few awesome plays, it’s really exciting to see young guys like that in their developing years. I didn’t think I’d enjoy a minor league game as much as I did, but it helps that our farm teams actually have some real talent now.

Drabek has a different mental makeup than Carrasco… Carlos always struggled with changes in scenery. I’m not sure if it was the pressure or a confidence issue but it seemed to take him a little while to adapt at every level. He’ll be an ok pitcher someday… they have to give him some time.

Speaking of 5th OF’ers… Mayberry is hitting again; .312 with 7 HR for Obregon. Taylor had a minor elbow strain early on but he’s adapting and playing well, too. Another notable… Neil Sellers. I know that nobody is high on this kid but he’s hitting .371 with 3 HR and hit .317 at AA Reading last season with 17 HR (he has never hit lower than .271 in any given season). Best of all, he plays 3B.

Kendrick would be a long reliever on this team. Id be ok with that. Thats about it though.

Becuase hes going to be non tenedered so you can get him for cheaper instead of paying 4-5 million in arbitration for him…its the same reason NOBODY will trade for Garrett Atkins because NOBODY wants to pay him 7M+. Just wait two more weeks or so and youll get him for nothing…

I believe Polanco is the best guy for this team at 3B. You can move him to 2B to rest Utley and let Dobbs play 3rd making his bat more effective off the bench as well. Getting Castro doesn’t negate the validity of picking up another versatile player like Polanco. Could do the same with DeRosa and I would not complain. But I agree with Don about Polanco- this lineup needs a tough out….a fundamentally sound, situational hitter who can move runners. As for that 5th starter role…anybody else notice the improvement in Kendrick at the end of last season?

If the Pads are not going to tender Correia he becomes a FA, right? If so what would it take for Kouzmanoff and Correia? Just trying to think of alternatives to older 3b that cost big bucks.

That right there is why you dont rush Drabek up this season. If hes dominating by the all star break, then maybe you bring him up for a few starts. Otherwise, you wait it out.

They had no business putting Carrasco in there and he got LIT UP. That can ruin a guy for good sometimes.

yea.. he wasn’t really ready to pitch in the Majors.. but they had nothing else, so they bumped him up

Correia does a nice job, I wouldn’t mind having him on our team, but Im sure there will be LOTS of teams interested

Does Correia have any value as a #4 or #5? 4.18 era away. The Pads might not tender if the can’t accomadatea deal.

Schnieder will have to settle for 2-2.5M I think…but I dont know Id pay a backup catcher that much…

Ruiz will get a raise too, and hes got that position locked in until they develop a kid a few more years down the line. They have prospects at catcher, but none of them are really closer than 2 years away.

2 million for Schnieder wouldn’t break the bank. Backup catcher is a far more important position than utility infielder, especially when Ruiz has a history of neck issues. I’m sure the front office realizes that. If they have to, they’ll pay more than they would for a bench bat or fifth outfielder.

Schneider will turn 33 tomrw.. I thought he was like 36+ years old

he made $4.9 M the past two years..

He won’t come all that cheap, but I would LOVE him as our backup catcher..

but I think a lot of other teams would too
