Gameday 2009, Posts, World Series 2009
New York Yankees (2-1) at Philadelphia Phillies (1-2)
CC Sabathia, LHP, vs. Joe Blanton, RHP
Time: 8:20 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 56 degrees
TV: FOX
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies must even up the series after dropping last night’s game. Joe Blanton and the Phillies need to do whatever it takes to avoid falling to a 3-1 deficit.
Instead of throwing out Cliff Lee on three day’s of rest, Charlie Manuel opted to go with Blanton. Blanton last started in the National League Championship series and he allowed three earned runs in six innings. Blanton has struggled mightily against the Yankees throughout his career, but has not faced them since last season. The Phillies are in desperate need of a solid outing from Blanton, especially with Cole Hamels’ poor performance last night.
For the second time this postseason, CC Sabathia will pitch on short rest. The 280-pound left-hander threw 113 pitches in game one of the World Series. Sabathia pitched well, but was out-dueled by Lee and could not find a way to get Chase Utley out.
The offense is a big reason why the Phillies are in the World Series, but they are also a big reason why they are trailing 2-1. They have faced great pitching, but the Phillies are more than capable of putting up crooked numbers. Other than Utley in game one, the only players who are doing well are Jayson Werth (.400) and Carlos Ruiz (.333).
Your Gameday Beer – Tröegs Hopback Amber Ale
I’m surprised we didn’t recommended this beer during our summer of Amber Ales, but it is appropriate tonight as the Phillies need to hop back on the winning train. As advertised, this brew is loaded with citrusy hops, which accompany a pine, grass-like scent. The mouthfeel is smooth, thick and dry but full of flavor sensations. If you like the flavors of Pale Ales but not the bitterness, then this beer is worth a go. Have it with some grilled salmon seasoned with lemon. – By Brian

That is ridiculous they warned the benches. I would have let Sabathia hit someone first. I mean, A-Rod has gotten hit 3 times in two games. I wouldn’t blame the Yanks for wanting to hit someone.

Well…now we’re in hole to start out with…I gotta admit i’m not feeling comfortable about Blanton. CC however, no question, we’re gonna hit the hell out of him.

We’ve been screwed ever since Game 2. What will make this game any different? This is what happens when you face the New York Yankees. The BEST team in Baseball right now.

H.K that is why you go out for beer ahead of time. You should have gotten a 30 pack prior to the Eagles game. That should have given you enough to make it through the Birds and 1-2 Phillies games.

Howard is the reason we will lose this series. you cant win when your biggest hitter, your number 4 hitter cant get a base hit.

hello everyone, went to last night’s game, phillies phans and 90 minute rain delay is not a good combination. The beer was flowing. I would rather sit in the rain then listen to tim mccarver. In fact there are medical procedures i rather have done then listen to tim mccarver!

The fear of adding Ibanez to the line-up was too many lefties. Well the phillies got away with it during the season, but it appears the yankees are capitalizing on this unbalanced lineup.

no more pulling off on sliders. He won’t be allowed to pitch inside because he will be afraid to hit somebody and get tossed.

I understand that. And I thank him for that. I am not saying im mad at him, he did his job in the first couple rounds and helped carry us here. but I am just saying that if we lose this series, he is a huge factor. i hpoe he breaks out this game and goes on a tear for the rest of teh series, but I think that layoff killed him.

just wondering….the yanks seemed to control the rythym of the game ever since Lee had it going so quickly. It seems to have up ended the Phils. What do you think?

Yeah seriously all the mound trips and yet instant replay slows down the pace of the game…
