YankeesNew York Yankees (2-1) at Philadelphia Phillies (1-2)

CC Sabathia, LHP, vs. Joe Blanton, RHP

Time: 8:20 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 56 degrees
TV: FOX
Twitter: Phillies Nation

The Phillies must even up the series after dropping last night’s game.  Joe Blanton and the Phillies need to do whatever it takes to avoid falling to a 3-1 deficit.

Instead of throwing out Cliff Lee on three day’s of rest, Charlie Manuel opted to go with Blanton.  Blanton last started in the National League Championship series and he allowed three earned runs in six innings.  Blanton has struggled mightily against the Yankees throughout his career, but has not faced them since last season.  The Phillies are in desperate need of a solid outing from Blanton, especially with Cole Hamels’ poor performance last night.

For the second time this postseason, CC Sabathia will pitch on short rest.  The 280-pound left-hander threw 113 pitches in game one of the World Series.  Sabathia pitched well, but was out-dueled by Lee and could not find a way to get Chase Utley out.

The offense is a big reason why the Phillies are in the World Series, but they are also a big reason why they are trailing 2-1.  They have faced great pitching, but the Phillies are more than capable of putting up crooked numbers.  Other than Utley in game one, the only players who are doing well are Jayson Werth (.400) and Carlos Ruiz (.333).

Tröegs Hopback Amber AleYour Gameday Beer – Tröegs Hopback Amber Ale
I’m surprised we didn’t recommended this beer during our summer of Amber Ales, but it is appropriate tonight as the Phillies need to hop back on the winning train. As advertised, this brew is loaded with citrusy hops, which accompany a pine, grass-like scent. The mouthfeel is smooth, thick and dry but full of flavor sensations. If you like the flavors of Pale Ales but not the bitterness, then this beer is worth a go. Have it with some grilled salmon seasoned with lemon. – By Brian

GO PHILLIES!

that goes down as a forced fumble for Ryan Howard. And yet another ump brain freeze….

Yeah, I noticed he missed the plate even without the replay, but I think this is one of those vicinity calls, where you’re close enough to the base and the other guy isn’t anywhere near it, they aren’t that picky about contact.

everyone knew howard didn’t touch the bag but him..lol

Lmao. Never touched home plate. That brings back a great memory of regular season game. Against the…astros? Guy didn’t touch home plate then tried to act as if he did (play dumb, basically), then tried to get around bako, to no avail? That was sweet.

Tonight’s, however, was a pretty lucky break.

Even the guys in the dugout noticed he didn’t tag. A couple of people were pointing at him to tag after the fact, like the DP the other day.

I’m not going to say it but you know what we need after tying the game up

Actually, once the umpire signals, then the Yanks can’t challenge it.

If a guy misses the base on a play like that where a call by the umpire has to be made then once the call is made its over.

Now if a guy is rounding a base and going to another then clearly there is no call made by the ump and then you can challenge before throwing the next pitch.

Alright – back to even!! But Phils are doing great, cause Sabathia is now up to 66 pitches and top of the order is coming up again. Meanwhile, Joe B. is only at 44 pitches, so this top of the 5th (against bottom of Yankees lineup) is critical. Keep it even now, and I got a good feeling about what’s coming next!

Go Phils! Everybody get the rally towels out at home…

i think he was safe because posada never caught the ball & when he did pick it up, he thre it to 2nd

either that or the hp ump is an idiot

the yankees can make a throw to home and tag it before the next pitch the same way they do it if they don’t feel a guy tug up at third?
How can the ump not give the run to the phils if the yankees don’t tag out howard…what do they do? let howard go in the dugout and don’t count the run or the out? lol

66 pitches for sabathia through 4. The top needs to jump all over him next inning and know him out of this game. Let’s go Joe!

I hate when this happens. The shutdown inning is the most IMPORTANT in ALL OF BASEBALL! (little ron darling dig there). But seriously…Blanton needs to find a way out of this one.
