YankeesNew York Yankees (2-1) at Philadelphia Phillies (1-2)

CC Sabathia, LHP, vs. Joe Blanton, RHP

Time: 8:20 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 56 degrees
TV: FOX
Twitter: Phillies Nation

The Phillies must even up the series after dropping last night’s game.  Joe Blanton and the Phillies need to do whatever it takes to avoid falling to a 3-1 deficit.

Instead of throwing out Cliff Lee on three day’s of rest, Charlie Manuel opted to go with Blanton.  Blanton last started in the National League Championship series and he allowed three earned runs in six innings.  Blanton has struggled mightily against the Yankees throughout his career, but has not faced them since last season.  The Phillies are in desperate need of a solid outing from Blanton, especially with Cole Hamels’ poor performance last night.

For the second time this postseason, CC Sabathia will pitch on short rest.  The 280-pound left-hander threw 113 pitches in game one of the World Series.  Sabathia pitched well, but was out-dueled by Lee and could not find a way to get Chase Utley out.

The offense is a big reason why the Phillies are in the World Series, but they are also a big reason why they are trailing 2-1.  They have faced great pitching, but the Phillies are more than capable of putting up crooked numbers.  Other than Utley in game one, the only players who are doing well are Jayson Werth (.400) and Carlos Ruiz (.333).

Tröegs Hopback Amber AleYour Gameday Beer – Tröegs Hopback Amber Ale
I’m surprised we didn’t recommended this beer during our summer of Amber Ales, but it is appropriate tonight as the Phillies need to hop back on the winning train. As advertised, this brew is loaded with citrusy hops, which accompany a pine, grass-like scent. The mouthfeel is smooth, thick and dry but full of flavor sensations. If you like the flavors of Pale Ales but not the bitterness, then this beer is worth a go. Have it with some grilled salmon seasoned with lemon. – By Brian

GO PHILLIES!

Ibanez has really been a huge problem this series. he comes up and almost never delievers. he shouldve sat today. with CC being a lefty francisco shouldve started again.

FORGET IT- gm over – series over

IBANEZ IS AUTO OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND FRANSISCO 1ST PITCH SWINGIN

    I cannot remain optimistic,

shame blanton pitched pretty good. the philies offense is too inconsistent to over come a couple runs…

now — the y’s will proably bring their bp…

mariano comes in w/his cape and the phils lose.

Granted, I did feel like this right before J-Roll hit a ball to the left center field gap to win a game I thought was a long time lost…I just don’t feel like even thats possible tonight. I guess thats the beauty of walk off hits but there is absolutely NOTHING HAPPENING in that dugout.

Does anyone else think those Prestiq medicine commercials are creepy? I’m listening to the radio broadcast with no sound for that commercial and everytime it comes on, it creeps me out.

Joe pitched pretty well minus a few balls that were off a few gloves and dropped into no man land, to bad the offense has been absent. hopefully the bullpen can shut them down

ok…..the phillies need to WAKE UP NOW. They are on that field with slumped shoulders. Did they wear themselves out after the Lee celebration? Cmon guys. You have THE BEST PHANS IN BASEBALL. Bring in that 10th man that helped you get to where you are now. CMON! WAKE UP!!!!

I’m trying jreed.. But Charlie should let Phillies Nation hit. Put us in coach. At least we’d care. These guys are up there acting like it’s 10-2. That’s what really is bugging me. All the fundemental mistakes and lack of passion by the Offense. It feels like this game is being played in Camden. The crowd wants to erupt on something positive. They’re still waiting. Great Job Chan Ho. Great Joe Blanton. You deserved a better fate. Trolls??? F*ck off. Stop trying to make yourself feel special. Wait… You are special. Never mind!

jreed, i think he means cliff would be pitching a shut out and the score of this game would be 2-0. well…now 3-0…but i think i agree.

We’ll 3-0. Because Lee would’ve shut them down. All zeros. Baring a comeback Game 5 tomm will resemble Game 5 of 1993 WS. A gem that was nothing more than a tease and 1 more ball game for the Phillies.

I’m trying to view that inning as glass half full…but it’s tough the way Howard looks.

I guess the bright side is if Phils can keep it a one run game, they’ll have Werth and Feliz up next inning with (gasp!) Ibanez in between.

Ibanez redeemed? Would have a nice ring to it…

He got his gift pitch but the credit card was deee-clined. Hold’em here boys. The Magic is on it’s way. I can feel it!

well rollins and vic did hit the ball hard but right to a fielder…not much you can argue with there. Howard hasn’t been amazing tonight but he did get on base, stole second and did score a run. He’s also played well in the field.

Ibanez played well in the first two games…but perhaps his injury has finally caught up with him? Hard to say…

Why should Manuel get the Jeltz? Though I wish he started Lee, he went with Blanton and Joe did well. The O has been asleep at the wheel, they deserve the jeltz, collectively.

right on the mark Scott. No way Joe G leaves him in with tying run at the plate…

You can’t blame Blanton for this, and who knows how Lee would have pitched. It’s the offense that has let the team down the past few days. Although last night was poor pitching and hitting. The pitching has been fine tonight.
