The Phillies lost in extra innings to the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-3, however there were some positive notes from Sunday.
First, Brad Lidge said that he will be able to throw to live hitters during batting practice on Wednesday. He could appear in a minor league game on March 15.
Shane Victorino, who is nursing a sore shoulder, will not make the trip to tomorrow’s game at Tampa. However, Charlie Manuel said that there is a chance that Victorino could play on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves.
Now back to the game. Domonic Brown continues to make spring highlights. He went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. He grounded into a key double play, but since he has seven hits in the last three games, we’ll let it slide — for now. The other run came off the bat of Jimmy Rollins: a solo home run.
J.A Happ pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks. Phillippe Aumont managed to make it through 2.2 innings without surrendering a run, bouncing back from his poor outing against Florida State University. On the other hand, Joe Savery and Yohan Flande each struggled.

Despite the loss, I am VERY happy to hear about Aumont and Happ’s success during the game. Also Domonic Brown practically looks ready for the majors right now, with all of the success he has been having so far this spring!

brown is proof that taylor was the one to go. the both of them look major league ready, especially taylor. aumont has some serious potential, serious potential.
im rooting for Johan Flande. we need another lefty out of the pen. actually, we need A lefty out of the pen. romero is still a quesiton mark

it’s good to see Brown hitting well so far, but let’s keep it in perspective, most of his hits were off, as the manager from Major League would say, “a guy who’ll be bagging groceries in a week”

Did anyone see any info on pitch counts for Happ and Aumont? None of the box scores have any of that info. Having given up 2 BB’s, it seems like maybe Happ had some command issues.

Actually, Happ has pretty much said himself that he intentionally walks people sometimes if he has a strategic purpose for it…but it’d be hard to say if that was the case here without knowing all the details.

I’m a big Moyer as a starter fan and advocate of getting up your young arms to reinforce a bullpen but I’m hoping KK wins the rotation spot and Moyers happy keeping his career going in the pen. Can you imagine the things you can do with Moyer, Contreras and Beaz in the same pen when it comes to keeping the bullpen flexible and productive.
Wouldn’t worry or get to into the stats in Spring (unless your throwing an Oli Perez), the guys are just getting their work in and tinkering around with things.
On the Brown/Taylor thing, both are probably going to absolute beasts in the majors but Taylor was never going to be able to develop in the current line-up, Brown’s the better prospect and better fit.

Daily News said that Happ threw 54 pitches..
also has decent article about how Aumont used to throw three-quarters delivery… the Mariners had him throw more over-the-top delivery..
and the Phillies are bringing his arm slot back down to three-quarters, so that he can throw more sinkers instead of just power fastballs
…so that explains why he didn’t win the Cy Young award last week vs. Florida State
Kendrick pitches today against the Yankees i think.. lets see if he shows the same command he had last week!

Brown will be given ample opportunity to show he can handle big league picthing (even though they are throwing not at 100%) to take over for Werth next year.
The Phils will choose who they think is best suited for the 5th spot. If Moyer can go, give it to him. I do think he would be ideal as a solid LH option out of the pen though. Aumont will be OK. Phils know sinker ball pitchers work best in CBP.

Off Topic Question:
I go to philly.com everyday for Phillies news, but apparently there is a virus or malware that is getting onto my computer from there. It basically shut down my computer at home and discovered that it had badly infected my computer at work.
Is anyone else having this problem? If so, philly.com needs to be notified so I can continue to get my Phillies fix every morning.

I really like the kid Brown, but isn’t the one thing Taylor had going for him is that he is right handed. Can you really have all left handed bats from 3-6. And I know this may be a stupid question, but for a young guy is leftfield that much different the right field. So how is Taylor blocked but Brown isn’t.

Because Taylor needs to be able to get up to the majors this year and be in an environment conducive to development whereas it would have been sink or swim here, going to Oakland he’ll be a heart of a line-up hitter in a team built on development. Brown can take his time and come up when he’s ready and a spots open in the right place in the order, just a better fit, would have been nice to keep them both but he got us a pretty good pitcher…

I also wonder how it’s going to shape up, beta sigma shag. Can we really get away in 2011 with a L-L-L-L heart of the order (Utley, Howard, Ibanez, Brown)? They’ll have to adjust that, somehow… maybe bump Shane up to bat 5th or 6th? Ehhhh…

We’re all just resigned to Werth not being here next year, huh?? Damn!!
I like Moyer out of the pen too. How old was Jesse Orosco when he quit pitching??…something like 85???
Thing is, if Moyer continues to pitch really well, the Phillies really have no choice but to give him the nod.

I am not saying Wreth will not be here next year, the question was that since most people on ;here say Taylor was blocked, how is Brown not block. NJ answered that pretty well and I apprecitate it, pretty much saying that Brown could replace Ibenez in two years, giving him spot starts here and there the next two years

Yes, there is something called Antivirus Soft or something that infecting my computer last night as well. I simply went to System Restore which restores the computer back to a date to where you weren’t having the issue. The neat thing is that you will NOT lose any saved information.
It seemed to work for my computer since yesterday. It is not a true virus, it is more of spamming as long as you don’t purchase it.
They may sign Werth, I am giving up on that. But Brown is the future in the OF and it is unlikely they sign Werth with Howard, Hamels, and Rollins due extenstions soon after 2010.

If you think about it the league is changing and the AL is following the NL with a focus on pitching, defense and an athletic outfield over those big bats. Taylor could become a throwback in a time where teams are looking towards guys like Markakis, Kemp or Adam Jones, Carlos Gonzales rather than the Carlos Lee, Bay, Vlad big bats, big bodies in the outfield.
Brown, Gose, Gillies… The Phils are going to have a very good fast defensive team going forward with enough power throughout the line-up.
On a random note wonder if we’ll be talking about Collier or Hewitt at all this year…

yea trend is baseball is away from POWER ONLY guys… and towards 5-tool players..
guys that you dont have to sub for on defense.. or pinch run for late in games..
because they do everything pretty well, and not just one thing great. . .
Which is why Werth and Crawford will make so much money next year, but at the same time.. the Phillies farm system is loaded with exactly that kind of prospect
