Florida Marlins (6-4) at Philadelphia Phillies (7-2)
Anibal Sanchez (0-0, 6.00) vs. Roy Halladay (2-0, 0.56)
Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Scattered Thunderstorms, 68 degrees
TV: CSN Philly

Having a five game winning streak snapped yesterday, the Phillies look to start another as they take on division foe, the Marlins. In what will likely be the Phillies first true test of their team this season, the Phillies potent offense will see where they stand against decent pitching.
Oh, and a guy named Roy Halladay makes his Citizens Bank Park debut.
The moment we have been waiting for since December is finally here. Halladay comes home to Philly with a 2-0 record and a minuscule 0.56 ERA. In his first two starts, he has dominated hitters and notched a complete game against Houston. Although he is 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA against the Marlins in his career, there is no reason to think that Halladay won’t dazzle the hometown crowd.
Anibal Sanchez enters the game 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA. In his last start against the Dodgers, he pitched well despite getting tagged for four runs in the fourth inning. For his career, Sanchez has not fared well against the Phils, going 2-4 with a 5.40 ERA.
The Phillies bats struggled against lefty Scott Olsen in yesterday’s game, so seeing the right-handed Sanchez will be a nice break. Shane Victorino and chase Utley both have homers in consecutive games and the offense continues to click despite Raul Ibanez’s struggles.
Your Gameday Beer: Flying Fish Brewery’s Hopfish India Pale Ale
A citrusy pale ale, with a combination of American, German, and English malts, this bitter brew is balanced with a malty sweetness. Hopfish comes from local brewers, Flying Fish Brewing Company, located across the river from Philadelphia, in Cherry Hill, NJ. Try pairing it with fish, like a tilapia or Chilean sea-bass, I guess. – By Jason

So much for me having confidence in ANYBODY in our bullpen.

Guys, it’s a good thing we were able to win tonight…I have a bad feeling about the next 2 games if this is THE REAL ’10 Bullpen

Meanwhile, Chris Carpenter, one of the top five pitchers in the NL, was just locked in a pitcher’s duel with…Oliver Perez. I kid you not.
Ollie just got taken out in the bottom of the 7th. 1-0 Mets. That’s right. Mets got to Carpenter. Cards didn’t get to Perez.
Up is down, wrong is right…what the hell’s going on?!

some of you people have no clue
HERNDON PITCHED GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can do absolutely NOTHING about THREE INFIELD HITS AND TWO BLEEDERS THROUGH THE HOLE
ONE BALL WAS HIT HARD THE ENTIRE INNING
you people need to wake up

I think last night scared me more than tonight.
You’re totally right. The Fish got incredibly lucky.
But Baez pissed me off to no end last night and Madson NEEDS to hold us in the top ninth, if he does, Victorino hits the tying run and we go to extras, simple as that. But Baez gives up three, Madson gives up two more and we get the loss.
I totally agree with you that Herndon was getting his spots and getting his ground balls, they were just hitting them to no man’s land every time. But Baez and Madson not coming through is what really has me tentative.

At this point, I don’t really care how good Herndon’s pitches were.
The fact remains we just gave up 4 freaking runs in an inning, and no matter how you try and look at it…that’s simply inexecusable, especially after the Bullpen implosion last night.
If that makes me an idiot, well then SO FREAKING BE IT!

WFC010 you ARE AN IDIOT
you obviously know nothing about baseball…
Herndon made his pitches… he got ground balls…they just got INCREDIBLY LUCKY
let me guess, you didnt know who the phils were until ’08

No, Joe…i’m just angry right now that we gave up 4 runs.
Maybe it isn’t Herndon’s fault, but it still is unsettling to see that.
And try again Joe, but I grew up a Phillies fan.
Please excuse me for not being as all knowing as you are though.

Also it’s worth noting that I was relying on the internet to keep me informed on the game, since I don’t have a Television or radio available to me right now, so I didn’t see what the strike zone was like.

Same… was following online. I was assuming the hit’s were shitty ones, given the bad conditions, but it was still extremely nervous-making.

apologies.
it wasnt the strike zone…
herndon made pitch after pitch…
i mean, they hit 3 infield hits… and two bleeders through the hole..
i wouldnt worry..
thursday was much, much worse from the pen

Good points, Joe. Herndon is a ground ball pitcher and he delivered ground balls. Most times they would be playable ones.

on a dry field I believe two of the infield hits get to the fielders quocker and become outs. Castro is doing nice at the plate but I belive if Jimmy was at short that would have been a double play to end the game.

But i’ll say this: I do NOT want to see either Baez or Madson tonight.
Bring in Herndon for the 9th, and that’s all I wanna see.

Say what… Sure you didn’t wanna Madson tonight? Cause he ended up getting the save. 3/3.

Madson certainly did a decent job of putting out the fire, but that was still a very ugly inning, even if it was mostly just bad luck and weather conditions.

you gonna say that herndon is awful because he gave up mostly infield hits? Thats what you call fluke runs
