dbacksPhiladelphia Phillies (10-6) at Arizona Diamondbacks (7-9)

Nelson Figueroa (1-1, 4.25) vs. Ian Kennedy (0-1, 5.65)

Due to last night’s poor outing from Cole Hamels, the Phillies dropped the series opener to the Diamondbacks. The Phillies lost the first game of the Atlanta series, but fought back to take the series, 2-1. The Phillies are hoping for a similar outcome in Arizona.

With J.A Happ on the disabled list, Nelson Figueroa will make a spot start in his hometown. Instead of calling up a minor league pitcher, the Phillies opted to pitch Figueroa, who was claimed off waivers from the New York Mets this April. Figueroa has pitched well out of the bullpen this season, but his career numbers against Arizona are ugly. (Figueroa is 0-2 with an 8.68 ERA against the Diamondbacks. Mark Reynolds is 2-for-2 against him; both are home runs).

Figueroa will be opposed by Ian Kennedy, who was acquired in a three-way trade with the Diamondbacks, Yankees, and Tigers. Kennedy was a highly touted prospect in the Yankees organization, but has yet to live up to expectations. Due to high pitch counts, Kennedy has yet to make it through five innings, although he didn’t allow a run in his last start against the Padres.

It’s always unsure what the Diamondbacks will get out of Kennedy. He could pitch to his potential, or get rocked. The Phillies will have to be patient and work the count. The Phillies offense hasn’t been scoring as many runs as they were in the first two weeks of the season, and they could use a lift. Excluding Thursday’s win, the Phillies have scored a total of ten runs in five games — which is low for the numbers they’re used to putting up.

LINEUP: Victorino, Polanco, Utley, Howard, Werth, Ibanez, Castro, Ruiz, Figueroa

Your gameday beer: Long Trail’s Belgian White Ale. It’s from the Vermont brewery, and they make pretty good beer for the most part. This is no different, a very nice offering that has a hint of lemon and goes down pretty smooth. Tonight, eat a chicken Caesar salad with it. — By Tim

Has this site been abandoned by the usual suspects? I used to come on here and see a hundred comments by now.
Did everyone start jumping to another blog site?
I noticed during spring training it seemed the site was more interested in the other teams than the Phillies.
    Anyone know where everyone is?

Nice bomb by Raul…would like to see him string together some hits and not 0-4, 1-4, 1-4, 0-4 etc.

Any idea what is up with Castro?

Decent spot start by Figgs. Would have been nice to see him go another inning but you can’t argue with a reliever throwing 100 pitches.

yeah what is wrong with castro

Calf strain I think I just heard?

This line up seems totally lost right now, Victorino is honestly the worst lead off hitter there is. I would honestly rather see Chooch lead off if it was not for the value he provides at turning over a line up in the 8 hole. Maybe try putting Polly at lead off? At least he can try and work a count.

J-Roll can not come back soon enough.

In comment to my question earlier about the blog being abandon.
When I tried to go back on after that. I came up with an error saying the Phillies Nation Server was having issues. Maybe others had the same issue.

    Go Phils!

Can’t ask for much more from Figueroa. Spot start, he pitched well. Offense was kind of slow, but Werth with a huge night. He did it all. Also, it’s been awhile since we’ve heard a good RAUUUUL chant. Nice to see Ibanez with a HR. Bullpen was awesome tonight.

Joe, great game for Chad tonight!

Great to see Madson close the game out, and Raul have a successful night hitting. Figueroa was a pleasant surprise and Jayson Werth is proved his worth tonight. Hope we win the rubber game tomorrow.

My security software flagged this site a little earlier. The attempt before then I was also denied due to server problems?
Regardless, here now and great game. I’ll admit to some concern as we once again looked stymied at the plate. 4 more road games and back home to the friendly confines.
Anyone know the pitching schedule coming up?

    25th – KK
    26th – Doc
    27th – Moyer (?)
    28th – Cole (?)
30th – I think this is (was) Joe Blantons spot. Will he be ready or are we looking at Nelson?

Yeh, the Phils are going to have to play much better, especially offensively, if they expect to win any games in San Francisco which has proven to be a tough place for them in which to win in recent times.

I think this was Figueroa’s last game, it’s speculated that he’s about to be DFA’d.
