St. Louis Cardinals (18-9) at Philadelphia Phillies (15-11)
Brad Penny (3-1, 1.56 ERA) vs. Kyle Kendrick (0-1, 7.61 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park
TV:Comcast Sportsnet
Weather: Clear, 70

Update on Jimmy Rollins: The Phils shortstop will head to Clearwater next week to continue his rehabilitation on that calf strain. Once he’s deemed healthy enough for game activity, he’ll play in 3-to-5 rehab games before heading back to Philly. Let it be known, however, that it still could be June until we see J-Roll.
To tonight’s game, where Kyle Kendrick will look to find some consistency. Good consistency, if that makes any sense. He’s had once good start (against ATL) and the rest have been not-good-to-awful. Can he follow in the footsteps of Halladay, Hamels, and Blanton; all of whom have thrown beautifully the last week?
Brad Penny goes for STL and he’s been lights out. Dave Duncan is a magician with these reclamations projects he finds. Penny has found himself up against three bad offenses in the NL (HOU, CIN twice, ARZ) and an enigmatic San Francisco lineup, as well. He’s shut them all down for the most part. He’s also 9-4 lifetime against the Phils. AND, he used to day Alyssa Milano. What gives?
Your gameday beer: Corona Light
To celebrate Cinco De Mayo, cut up a few limes and jam them into a cold Corona Light. It’s the little things in life. By the way, Corona has a damn good marketing campaign too. No one ever says a word in their commercials, but I’ll be damned if I don’t enjoy them every time. Make some carnitas or tacos and load up on guacamole. That kinda night. -By Pat
GO PHILLIES!

My bunyan on my left foot tells me that Kendrick is going to be very good tonight. It is usually right.

Kyle, you don’t have to throw at least 2 balls to every batter you face.

Our weakness last season was bullpen and starting. All Jr who was a horrible ball player did was sign our guys. Did nothing expect trade out lee for doc..

Somebody beat up Tony L. What an overrated manager. Has the pitcher bat in the 8th hole which is stupid. Will cost him now. Has not won since the steroid boys played for him. Overrated.

kyle should not be a major league pitcher. does not have the stuff. should be a minor leaguer for the rest of his life.

PREDICTION: Polanco will hit between 20 and 25 homers this year….
Let’s see Kendrick answer the bell in the fifth.

If Kendrick keeps pitching this nominally well someone is gonna run out on the field to try and pull the mask off and see who is actually pitching.

jeff your right about the money / the salaries today are outrageous / so nobody’s really worth it / unless you look at the ( its entertainment ) argument / meaning no one complains about the millions that actors / pop stars / rock stars make / if you think about it big sports stars are just as famous as other famous people / sometimes more famous / i do agree the top 10% of pro athletes are just as special at what they do as any singer or actor.

Mike. I used to watch sports like crazy. I am 38. I grew up watching the NBA. Dr. J, Magic, Bird. Man the NBA was great. Now its garbage. Players are not as good. If the old Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Sixers were playing now they would be 82-0. To much talent. All the money these guys make made my love of the games decrease. I still enjoy NFL and MLB but not as much. To much money. To much money to the players and to get in. Its crazy. Drs. should make that money. The Lakers today are ok but not nearly as great as the old showtime boys.

jeff i do agree with everything your saying / i’m 47 so i totally understand / i debate with my 17 year old son all the time when i try to explain to him how great the nba used to be / i dont even watch it anymore / i’ll always watch the NFL / every games important / i love basedall too ( obviously i’m here ) i played up to college ball and i know how hard it is to make it to the bigs / maybe thats why i try and defend the money a little / ultimately i agree with you though / 15 , 20 years ago the avg family could go to maybe 10 , 20 or more games a year.

Doctors should make the millions per year? Why, because they are highly skilled? Believe me, doctors do what they do for money, status, and power. Very very few of them give a damn about the people they are helping, if that is your criterion.

your right, my wife and I spend 200 to go to a phillies game. crazy. my grandfather was a HUGE phillies fan. We would go for 30 bucks. Now these contracts are so huge. 125 million to catch and hit a ball. magic and jordan took less money so guys could get paid. they wanted to win. god can you imagine, magic, kareem, worthy, scott, cooper, rambis, playing in the nba now. lebron who. they would shut down these kids.

drs, save people. they help people. my brother in law is a surgeon. makes a good living. works 80 hours a week. his job is his life so dont give me your crap. i enjoy baseball as an escape. please ryan howard catches a white ball and hits it sometimes. does not deserve 125 million for it.

i still go to games for 30-40 bucks. cheap ticket, maybe a little something to eat. just because you’re at a game doesn’t mean you have to purchase every foodstuff and libation you see. ever heard of a budget? i’m 30 and make little money and am going back to school. doesn’t prevent me from watching a game in person 20 times a year.

I don’t think Michael Jordan ever took less money so that other players could make more. Even if he did, that has nothing to do with the overall outrageousness of salaries and the cost of going to games. That being said, I’m 35 (since we’re sharing ages), and agree that the NBA used to be way more entertaining. But I disagree that it’s because the players and teams used to be better. In a way, I think the opposite. The players are so unbelievably athletic and skilled now that it kind of gums up the team concept, and as a result the games aren’t as enjoyable to watch.
