Before we get to tonight’s game, the first NL All-Star Ballots have been counted and the Phillies are kicking ass and taking names so far. Five Phillies lead their respective positions, with Chase Utley leading everyone in the National League with over 687,000 votes. He leads Rickie Weeks at second base by over 500,000! Ryan Howard is well behind Albert Pujols, but is in second place. Carlos Ruiz sits behind Yadier Molina at catcher.
Jamie Moyer won’t be making the ASG this year, but he’s pitching pretty well, all things considered. He’s going for his 6th win of the season tonight at Citi Field. In actuality, he’s been a bit of a savior. No one believed he would be as good as he’s been so far, and rightfully so. Moyer was awful a season ago and with all the injuries to the rotation/bullpen, his innings have been much needed and appreciated.
Another knuckleballer, R.A. Dickey, goes up against the Phillies this evening. It’s the first time that the Phils will face knuckle-throwers back to back since 1983 when they went up against Phil and Joe Niekro. Sunday was an ugly attempt at hitting as Tim Wakefield made the Phils bats look foolish over eight strong innings. Perhaps seeing a knuckleballer already will help this time around.

Howard’s a lot less comical than he used to be. Granted, he’s no Shane Victorino, but that significant weight loss has done him well.

I think Howard has improved to at least average in every area of the game he was criticized, genuinely think he’s the second best all-around 1st basemen in the game above Teix because he isn’t a half a year player and above Miggy because he’s healthy, runs the bases fine and though he makes mistakes he plays D.

you have to put the mets away when you have them loaded nobody out. i know we will win this divison but we have to start hitting. the mets wont even finish in third. they are that bad of a team. braves, marlins are better. much better. the mets have to be the top five worst teams in baseball. god when is the last time they won a championship. i cant remember. just a classless team with slime from ny.

We are hitting, we’re hitting like crazy, problem is there are a handful of games we won’t hit but if we did hit more consistently we’d win 115-120 games which is just unrealistic.

the phillies are just playing bad baseball. moyer really needs to go. i realize once in a blue moon he has a good outing but we need someone else in there. happ will help. our offense are not scoring. the only team im afraid of is us. we will win this division easly. the mets are going to play the padres and brew crew. some losses there.
