2010 Gameday, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (26-17) at New York Mets (22-23)
Jamie Moyer (5-3, 4.30 ERA) at R.A. Dickey (0-0, 3.00 ERA)
Time: 7:10, Citi Field
Weather: Clear, 74

Before we get to tonight’s game, the first NL All-Star Ballots have been counted and the Phillies are kicking ass and taking names so far. Five Phillies lead their respective positions, with Chase Utley leading everyone in the National League with over 687,000 votes. He leads Rickie Weeks at second base by over 500,000! Ryan Howard is well behind Albert Pujols, but is in second place. Carlos Ruiz sits behind Yadier Molina at catcher.
Jamie Moyer won’t be making the ASG this year, but he’s pitching pretty well, all things considered. He’s going for his 6th win of the season tonight at Citi Field. In actuality, he’s been a bit of a savior. No one believed he would be as good as he’s been so far, and rightfully so. Moyer was awful a season ago and with all the injuries to the rotation/bullpen, his innings have been much needed and appreciated.
Another knuckleballer, R.A. Dickey, goes up against the Phillies this evening. It’s the first time that the Phils will face knuckle-throwers back to back since 1983 when they went up against Phil and Joe Niekro. Sunday was an ugly attempt at hitting as Tim Wakefield made the Phils bats look foolish over eight strong innings. Perhaps seeing a knuckleballer already will help this time around.
Tonight’s Lineup:Victorino (CF), Polanco (3B), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (RF), Ibanez (LF), Ruiz (C), Castro (SS), Moyer (P).
Your gamenight beer: Brooklyn Pennant Ale ’55
A baseball-themed beer? Yes, please. Brooklyn Pennant Ale is a honey-colored pale ale, right up my alley. It’s aptly named for the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Championship team, a very cool homage to a city that lost its team to the west coast unfortunately. It’s 5.0% ABV, so not too strong, not too light. It should be paired with some BBQ ribs or a plate of crabcakes. Oh yeah. Whether or not you despise New York, Brooklyn Brewing Co. makes a damn good beer. –By Pat

How about if we talk baseball here and not mudsling each other? This blog is about Phils baseball, and Mets fans and others should come on here only if they say credible, respectful stuff. I don’t know what satisfaction anyone can get from these childish insults.

They stunk tonight. No offense. No fun watching them. Stunk. The last three games show the roller coaster of professional baseball.

oh and jeff, I have not problem losing to the Mets now Moron, because in September and October…You know when the Phillies are playing in the PLAYOFFS, you will be sitting miserable in your mothers basement. LOL. Taunt all you want idiot, just like you did in 2007 (NL East Champs) 2008 (WS champs) and 2009 (NL Champs). All of which the Mets were sitting at home. LOL. DUH.

I am getting very sick of Ryan Howard going 2-5 with two singles and two strikeouts. We can pay David Murphy to play first base if our firstbasemen is going to hit singles. He needs to go back to the old Howard. Hit 45 bombs, stand further from the plate and unload on pitches. A stat that should be discovered: Howard’s batting average against lefties after the 7th inning. Aside from his grand slam against the feared Jack Taschner, I can’t remember him even making contact outside of hitting a weak ground ball to the first basemen. Pathetic game tonight, pathetic last three games. Never been so please to not see a knuckleball pitcher. As a final thought are we witnessing the demise of Ryan Howard? Did we just give a 25 homerun hitter 125 million dollars?

adam what??? the demise of Howard?? a hit’s a hit. yet you still cruse him to h*ll for going 2-5? you didn’t even mentioned that Chase is in a slump. Or that he has been swinging at the 1st pitch lately and pitches way out of the strike zone. What about his rep for blowing taylor made double plays. Or about that pop-up? Tough play but he had time to adjust and make the catch. Bashing Howard for a 2-5 nite while not mentioning Chase is very shady. Yes the deal is high. I’d chop a couple of yrs off sure. Howard is widly unpredictable. But he carries this team on his back in Sept. Take away his 2out 2run double in Game 4 and the phils may have been one done Chase and Rollins always slid off come the dog days. But so is just about everyone else in that lineup. Your post has a “hateful” tone. Go off on Chase like u just did with Ryan. I bet you won’t.
