San Diego Padres (33-23) at Philadelphia Phillies (30-25)

Wade LeBlanc (2-4, 3.67 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (1-4, 5.68 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m., Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Cloudy/Windy, 64
TV: Comcast SportsNet

Yesterday, the Phillies bats couldn’t come up big when it counted most as they lost to the Padres 6-5 in 10 innings. Tonight, they can still win the series as Cole Hamels will take the mound against Wade LeBlanc.
Hamels should be very well rested. His last start lasted just 2/3 of an inning due to a one hour, four minute rain delay in Atlanta. Many said he should have come back out following the weather stoppage – after all Tim Hudson did it. Hamels, or possibly the coaching staff, felt it was best to keep him on the sidelines after that long. Figure Hamels to give the bullpen some rest today. He should be primed to throw 110 pitches or so. Against his hometown team Hamels has been excellent. He’s 3-1 in seven starts with an ERA of 3.35 over 43 innings.
Wade LeBlanc is not a hockey player; he’s the starting pitcher for the Padres this evening. The 25-year old left hander has been in a funk his last four starts. In those, he’s 0-4 with a 6.43 ERA. LeBlanc is facing a lineup that is salivating and would love to break out of a prolonged slump.
Some news regarding the injured Jimmy Rollins: He’ll head to Clearwater on Thursday as he continues to rest his ailing calf. It is NOT the beginning of a rehab assignment just yet, that should follow shortly after he gets down there, however. J-Roll has been MIA since May 22 – exactly the time the Phillies slump began. When he does return, Rollins said today he doesn’t think he’ll play every day to make sure the calf heals properly. He also says he’ll have an MRI once he’s ready to return to the Phillies. He seems to be at least week away, but it could be longer. When asked today it could be a month, he said “it better not be.”
Phillies Lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Hamels P
Your gameday beer: Stella Artois
A cold Stella on a beautiful night with nothing but baseball? Love it. Stella is a Belgian beer and the name is Latin for the word “star”. The Phillies could use some Stella’s tonight in their lineup. It’s been far too long since we’ve enjoyed one of their patented offensive tears. Enjoy it with a Chicken Caesar salad and a Phillies victory. You won’t be let down tonight – by either. – By Pat
GO PHILLIES!

While on vacation I missed these GAMEDAY features. Phillies Nation does a good job, they get the juices going and the emotions high.
Tonight Ryan Howard will have a multi-homer game….at least two.

Stella Artois is a popular beer in Great Britain, as well. It is not a huge seller in the US so you might get an old, Stinker. As you know, beer, unlike wine, gets worse with age. It was a bit strong for my wife, but I liked it. Tastes a little like Heinekin just a little stronger.

My conclusion is that people from Philadelphia are absolutely retarded. Why? Because of this past weekend seeing a little kid drinking beer at the game and after 1999 when Philadelphia morons showed their great sportsmanship and cheered when michael irvin was injured after injuring his neck he didnt move. The guy could have died. Good job philly. This really improves ur reputation.

Steve Phillips said that he thinks the Padres are a very average team. He said good young arms but the team will go under after the all star break. I agree. The Padres are a product of there division. They have no offense power. We will take 3-1 from this team. Should be a sweep. They are just as bad as the Mets. Not scared of either team. Jokes

Hamels will throw a gem tonight…but it is the Padres so keep it in perspective.
Steve Phillips also likes to cheat on his smoking hot wife with someone that looks like they could be Monica Lewinski’s sister. That info alone means I don’t take what Steve Phillips says seriously.

Where are you from Willie? All large metropolitan areas have their share of morons. Phillie is no different. Obviously you have a lot of hate cursing through your veins. I hope you develop an understanding of people in general. Mob mentality and all the stuff that affects people at sporting events. You should see the soccer and rugby fans in Ireland and Great Britain. Makes Philly look tame.

I’m sure Steve Phillips slept with more than just that one chick that was all over the tv, but she was pretty gross. Even in my worst drunken states I wouldn’t have touched that girl.

Meanwhile the Padres will finish in 4th in their own division so the wild card won’t even matter. Sorry pal, nothing against you, or your team but that is the reality of it.

Phillies will win the division mr Padre. Mark my words on that. Utley, Howard, and Werth will get hot at some point. Thats what we have going for us. The Mets and Padres have nobody that can get hot like the Phillies.

Jesus Werth! Can you please stop swinging at bull****?! This is getting ridiculous, if I were a pitcher, I would just throw everything away from him.

3 LOB through 1…o/u 15 LOB?
Disgrace Werth. Howard can work a walk and you ground out weakly to 3rd? I have yet to say this so far but maybe it’s time to sit down for a little bit.

Utley is going to be hitting .250 by the time this team faces the yankees. Also they need to get some runs for Cole before he has that one bad inning.

just tuned in- maybe it’s the use of the cutter but Cole’s fastball looks really sharp tonight, usually the velocity is there but he just seems quicker to the glove with it tonight.

He has to be consistent but this is the Cole Hamels we’ve been waiting for who’s every bit as good as Cliff Lee if he can find that consistency. If tonight is something that can be projected out he finally has the arsenal.

I know people are going to rip the middle of the order guys but this LeBlanc looks good, reminds me a lot of what the Padres had in Chris Young before he got hurt.

The Phils’ middle of the order is really flat. Werth and Utley are looking very bad. Hope they can pull out of it soon

the Mets can be a very good team but right now they aren’t with Minaya who has made more terrible investments than the citigroup itself, their above the front office politics seems to be the bigger issue.
How did Valdez get the call on that check swing? Sure the bat didn’t come forward but he was almost at first base trying to hold it back!

BTW does anyone think the Nats could be for real in a couple of years in that new park with Strasburg, Harper, Zimm, Soren, Dosmond, Clippard… Maybe they really are starting to build the bones of a legit contendor rather than assembling talent with no purpose like the old Devil Rays…
Thoughts?
