World Series re-match? Check. All-World pitching duel? Check. Two of the best teams in baseball going head-to-head? Wait…

We all believe in our heart of hearts that the Phillies are one of the elite teams in all of baseball. Now’s the time to show it. What better way to do so than to send Roy Halladay out there to slap the Yanks around.  After all, Doc owns the Bronx Bombers over his career. In 35 career starts as part of the Blue Jays, Halladay has an 18-6 record with a 2.84 ERA.  He’s worked his magic over NYY in 247 career innings. But as we all know, shutting down the opposition hasn’t really been a problem.

Perhaps the Phils have a case of run-scoring amnesia. They’ve straight-up forgotten how to cross home plate.  They’d better un-forget quickly or this could be another lost series, just as the Boston set was.  New York can score with the best of ‘em.  The three teams at the top of the AL East lead the Majors in runs scored (NYY-355, BOS-353, TB-333). The Phils rank (GASP!) 20th in all of baseball. I know we all keep talking about them breaking out of this slump, but this is seriously getting rather old.

CC Sabathia will be the man in charge of making the Phillies look foolish. Can they buck the trend against their old foe? Sabathia is familiar with the Phils, but it’s Chase Utley who has given him nightmares.  In Utley’s 5-homer World Series against New York, three came off of Sabathia. It’s not a dream matchup for Chase, however, his track record speaks for itself against the Yankees ace.

He’ll get to prove he’s the same guy from the World Series last year in the second spot of the Phils lineup. Charlie Manuel has shifted the order a bit, check it out below:

LINEUP: Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Polanco 3B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Francisco DH, Castro SS, Ruiz C (Halladay P)

Hoegaarden
Your Gameday Beer: Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout

This is odd, yet kind of cool at the same time. It was once a drink for lactating mothers way, waaay back when.  Sam Smith makes a damn good beer and this one an has a nice, silky texture, with a bittersweet finish. A four pack of this stuff will run you about $10-12 but it’s well worth it.  It shouldn’t be served too cold either – the temp should be about 55 degrees.  Eat it with Italian food or a nice Tuna Steak and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. – By Pat

Go Phillies!

Hopefully the Phills can win tonight, and win 2 out of three, after they ended Boston on a relatively high note.

Here’s a comment I read on CSN Philly:
“I would trade Werth for Lee OR Oswalt so fast it’s make your head spin. I really thing Mayberry can give them what Werth is. Brown too, but he’s another LH bat. I’d like to see Brown replace Raul. I read somewhere, that last yr this time he had 22 homers to the 4 he has now. Wow, what a dropoff.”

    HAHAHAHA

    DAY 25:

It seems like it may never end. I’m hopeful since Halladay has always played well against the Yankees, and the Phillies have always hit Sabathia. 1 hour 10 min. til game time…we’ll see…..

BTW, please ignore the trolls that will be coming our way tonight.

I like the Utley 2nd, Polanco 3rd shift in the batting order …. make Chase concentrate on just making contact and playing small ball if needed

Polanco already does that, so against a lefty (hopefully with Victorino on 2nd).. Polanco can try to drive a ball into the gap and get the offense going again!

Didn’t Chase hit 5 homers (not 6)? Can’t remember right now, but 5 is the number stuck in my head.

If the Phils hit, they should beat Sabbathia. They have had decent luck in the past. Let’s see if the slump is over. In my mind, this is a really big series for the Phils.

@ second john : i would trade werth for lee in a second if i could. I know we have all beat the Lee thing to death , but lets face it , theres no way even if the bats come around we can win the world series with just roy and cole ( unless roy pitches 3 games in a 7 game series ). The other thing is , the METS are gonna go after LEE hard. Thats our worse nightmare! Enough salary was coming off after next year to keep LEE. This was the best chance of a dynasty this team ever had. Pitching , Pitching , Pitching ! With HALLADAY , LEE , HAMELS we would have had best 1,2,3 in baseball. I apologise to everyone for beating this dead horse but i”ll never be over it. At 47 years old i’ve seen enough Phils baseball to know it was a one in a lifetime chance of dominance for years. IF THE METS DO GET HIM I’LL LOSE MY MIND !

Winning this series could be the thing that wakes this team up. We got a solid chance with Doc on the mound. LETS GO PHILLIES

Just curious…why can’t the Phillies win the World Series with just Roy and Cole? In 08 we won with just Cole, last year we lost because we had just Cliff. Two guys might be enough to get it done, it should be, especially with the way Cole is pitching.

But that is all assuming this team gets back to hitting the way they used too.

Face it Roy. You are pitching for the WOM.

    Worst Offense Majors.

This is how ERAs balloon as pitchers lose their focus when they know it’s a done deal already in the second.

Cheating has nothing to do with why they aren’t winning but whatever. Go back to being an uneducated front runner it suits you.

@ yankeesrule : what exactly is there to be proud ? Whats so hard about buying a team of all stars. You dont see them grow through the organization ( except for a few exceptions , jeter of course ). I want to have mature discussion about this ( hopefully your an adult , we’ll see ).
The yankees of the late 90″s had alot more homegrown players. I had alot more respect for them. I’m not saying a team shouldn’t have a few free agents if they can afford them , our payroll is like #5 i think , but we watched this team grow up. When u look at your roster and see who was bought the last 5 years , whats so hard about just writing checks? And i’m tired of the title bragging , 20 of those titles came before 1962 , most when theyre werent that many teams , and the yankees paid the most back then too. I’m just saying if my team had the money advantage the yankees have i wouldn’t complain , but i would acknowledge the playing field is not even close to even , and admit we bought our success instead of earning it through drafting and finding diamononds in the rough like the phillies , rays , braves of the 90′s etc. If the PHILLIES had yankee resources we would have kept cliff lee , but we dont. I hope one day MLB gets a salary cap , then we’ll see what the mighty yankees do when they cant just buy a team of allstars.

A sweep is definately on the horizon. We will be lucky to take one from the twins. Last place is coming quick. Hurts. So much more when you don’t see it coming. At least it used to not be a dissapointment because we knew the phils would be bad. Its just plain hard to watch or even listen to right now. Shut off my radio after that last homerun.

    Oy, vey.

There’s still time for the bats to wake up.

If Halladay was a prima donna like half the Yankees, he’d be wanting to murder the home plate ump right now. But Halladay owns his stuff.

    Lucky break, Chase.

    Way to hustle, Utley.

Was Sabathia nuts trying to catch that ball like that? He’s lucky he didn’t do some damage!
