Philadelphia Phillies (40-33) at Cincinnati Reds (42-34)

Kyle Kendrick, RHP (4-2, 4.71 ERA) vs. Johnny Cueto, RHP (7-2, 3.97 ERA)

The Phillies head into Cincinnati for a three game series to face the NL Central leading Reds.  The Phightins just finished up their interleague schedule yesterday against Toronto in Philly playing a rare road-home series.  They were 10-8 against the American League this season.

The Phils come into today’s game winning 8 of their last 12 thanks to the offense getting a heavy dose of smelling salt.  Chase Utley andJayson Werth have led the offensive charge hitting .381 and .400, respectively, in their last 11 games.  Ryan Howard has also been on a tear in the month of June hitting over .300 with seven homers.

On the mound for Philadelphia will be right-hander Kyle Kendrick.   In his last three starts away from Citizens Bank Park, Kendrick has only allowed two runs in 20 innings pitched.  He is 3-0 against the Reds in his career despite having a 6.61 ERA.

For the Reds, Johnny Cueto will try and continue his great start to the season.   Of his 15 starts this season, Cincinnati has won 10 of those games.  However, Cueto is winless against the Phillies.  In his last start against Philly in 2009, Cueto only lasted two-thirds of an inning giving up nine runs.  The Phillies ended up winning that game 22-1.

The Phillies will most likely be without third baseman Placido Polanco for a third straight start.  He was supposed to receive another cortisone shot in his elbow yesterday.  He could be back in the line-up tomorrow.

Shane Victorino and Howard have homered off Cueto in their careers.

LINEUP: Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Schneider C, Valdez 3B, Kendrick P

Konigshoeven Blond Trappist Ale Your Gameday Beer- Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout

Named one of the best beers in the country by several publications, Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout is a blend of French and toasted oak chips, which infuses a subtle oak and vanilla character into Yeti’s already intense chocolate, roasted coffee malt flavor and hugely assertive hop profile.  Tasty. It probably won’t quench your thirst on this hot day, but if your indoors in the AC, open up a few of these and enjoy as the Phils smack the Reds around. - By Pat

Every other game ,Team choke shows up.

Atta boy Werth, way to get it done,

Still no power from Utley for last month and 1/2.
    Victorino wallowing at.245,same with Ibanez.
5 outs in the lineup-tough to get anything done.

And by the way loser i’m laughing at you while i write this so dont think you get under our skin. I’m very serious when i say i pity you , only a loser would dedicate so much of their time to what you do here. Dude go get a girlfriend and give your hands a rest ( from typing and playin with yourself )

Infield in. A little late. Most rested pen in the NL and yet Kendrick stays in. Ugh. Must be trying to showcase Kendrick. Kendrick and two mid level prospects for Meyers.

man, one night we win 9-2 then lose 6-1…to up and down. kendrick is a minor league pitcher. thats all. how they let lee get away. now he will come back to kill us.

This lineup is really pitiful with Polanco out and Chooch out of the lineup. Only 5 hitters since you get BUPKUS with Ibanez,Valdez and Schneider. We are sucking with these injuries that linger on into July.

@ jeff , i agree , every time i bring up lee here i get slammed. We will never be over that. We just need everyone back , then we can play .650 baseball rest of way. Just keep thinkin win series. Big Joe has
to come thru tomorrow. You do scratch your head a little after all the offense the past week and 1 run tnite. Cant totally blame this on kendrick , even though he was his usual inconsistent self. I hope Haap can take his spot , anyone have a scouting report on Haap ?

Once I stop putting the phillies agaisnt division leaders or teams that would be if not in the al east and stop giving the braves the nats, kc, and the bad teams thing migjht turn around. Will have to wait since I am giving them the nats and then the marlins at home. By the way nats just played soccer and gave the braves a 3 run leas. 3 1/2 back.

Kendrick does not have the ability nor the consistency to be a starting MLB pitcher.

theres no reason to slide head first , i understand the aggresiveness but coaches stress all the time no to do it . Too risky ,its very easy to hurt your hands goin head first.

Alright folks I think we just need to face facts:

This is just not the Phillies year. The Braves seem the team of destiny and the Mets are way better than what we want to believe.

The offense is an absolute mess. Wilson Valdez kills the lineup and the fact is the Phillies have had their projected 1-8 (Rollins, Polanco, Utley, Howard, Werth, Ibanez, Victorino, Ruiz) for exactly six games. For what it is worth they were 5-1. This is just not our year. For some inexplicable reason every single player to a man is having their worst season of their careers. We are facing a situation where Utley, Howard and Ibanez (do not even get me started about how bad he is, how much he is killing the lineup, how no other 6 hitter has a mere 5 homeruns, how the front office is simply arrogant and dilusional about this guy) are all going to finish well below their career averages.

The injuries have been unreal. Just think about the guys who have missed time this year (Rollins, Polanco, likely Utley now, Ruiz, Lidge, Madson, Haap (who has the most mysterious forearm injury in the history of baseball) No team can overcome things like that.

The bullpen is nothing but average and Kyle Kendrick is an awesome 3 inning pitcher. He is not a major leaguer. Of course the Phillies will likely not re-sign Moyer (who I would take in a big game any day) but re-sign Kendrick and convince us that he is a serviceable starter. Of course this team is also too arrogant to try to give up prospects for Cliff Lee and instead the Phillies will end up with egg on their face when Cliff Lee is wearing a Mets uniform. Wonder what Amaro would say then? He will probably justify it in some fashion and praise the skill set of Phillipe Amount.

The fact is this team has gotten no production from the 6,7,8,9 spots in the order this year. This team is an 83-79 win team and I will maintain that prediction throughout.

Sadly, a 2007-2009 is likely as good as it gets.
