CardinalsColorado Rockies (51-45) at Philadelphia Phillies (50-46)

Ubaldo Jimenez, RHP (15-1, 2.38 ERA) vs. Kyle Kendrick, RHP (5-4, 4.82 ERA)

Time: 4:10, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 96 (Feeling like 102)
TV: CSN, Fox Regional
Twitter: @PhilliesNation

The Phillies will look at add on to their current five game home winning streak against one of the best road pitchers in the league.  Acutally Ubaldo Jimenez may just be the best pitcher in all of baseball period.  He boasts a 9-1 record in 11 road starts for the Rockies.  For those 11 games his ERA is 1.60.  However, the Phils may have caught him at the right time.

In his last start against the Marlins, Jimenez lasted only 5 1-3 innings while surrendering a season high-tying six runs.  The last time he faced the Phillies was in Game 1 of the NLDS last October going seven innings.  He struck out seven and allowed two runs taking the loss as the Phils won 5-1.

The Phillies seem to be picking up momentum with their offense.  They have produced 12 hits in back to back games.  A nice welcoming gift for Greg Gross who is taking over as the hitting coach after Charlie Manuel fired Milt Thompson.

Some of the Phillies have had success facing Jimenez in the past.  Howard, Dobbs, Polanco and Rollins each have two hits against the righty while Victorino has three.  Jimenez has only pitched 10 innings against Philadelphia and holds an 8.10 ERA during that time.

The Phillies will counter with Kyle Kendrick who was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley only days after  being sent down.  He is being asked to fill in for Jamie Moyer on the DL after suffering what could be a career ending injury in his last start.  In Kendrick’s last start he allowed a season high three homers in an 8-4 loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday.  Against Colorado, Kendrick is 1-1 with a 5.93 ERA in five starts.

Ruben Amaro Jr. and the front office have been frantically looking to add another starting pitcher.  Kendrick could ease their minds a bit with a solid start here and prove he belongs at the Major League level.  Let’s not hold our breathe quite yet.

LINEUP: Rollins SS, Polanco 3B, Ibanez LF, Howard 1B, Werth CF, Victorino RF, Dobbs C, Schneider 2B, Kendrick P.

On paper, this is a mismatch between the starting pitchers. Jimenez is at the top of the list for Cy Young award consideration while Kendrick, recently demoted to the minors has been recalled for emergency fill-in today. The Phillies’ offense is still sputtering (5 of their 6 runs came only in one inning last night). The columnist mentioned some success by Phillies in the past against Jimenez..”.. has only pitched 10 innings against Philadelphia and holds an 8.10 ERA during that time.” However, this is a totally different pitcher this season who has matured and blossomed into a full fledged star with dominance. It would be a shock but joyfully so, if somehow, someway the Phillies pulled off a upset.

Today’s gameday beer for this guy is Yuengling Lager in a can, which is the only way this beer should be served. Getting it on tap or in a bottle does something funky to the taste.

    Go Phils!

    Huge game. Let’s go Phils.

Chuck, Nothing beats draft beer, but ice cold Yuengling from a can is better than most canned beers. That said give me a true black and tan or a dunkelweis any day.

In his last five starts, Jimenez has given up 22 earned runs in 31 innings (for an ERA of 6.39). This is definitely a game that can be won…

Who is starting second base today?

    MLB preview has:

    Rollins (ss)
    Polanco (2b)
    Ibanez (rf)
    Howard (1b)
    Werth (lf)
    Victorino (cf)
    Dobbs (3b)
    Schneider (c)

I know Dobbs has recently crested the infamous Mendoza line and is nearly hitting his weight now. But, would anyone else be interested in seeing Ransom start 3rd instead? A few more at bats and we might see some of that early season power surge that had a lot of us drooling this spring. I have not seen enough of him to judge whether there is a huge gap defensively between Dobbs and Ransom at third – any opinions?

Dobbs Catching? Schneider’s playing second base? Victorino in Right while Werth is in Center? WTF? Lol.

For me, in the heat of the CBP parking lot prior to a day game, there is nothing better than an ice cold Yuengling Lager or 3 (or whatever…).

Once in the park, I’ll ease into an Amstel or 2 (sold a few places, sec 113 is my hang).

    Not today unfortunately… Go Phils!

I cant see the game so keep me posted.
This looks like a mismatch starting pitchng wise. I feel bad for the Rockies facing KK. Maybe they will be able to squeeze out a run somewhere but I doubt it.

Lager is different in a can. The 16 ounce cans are not as good. I think they might be from the Tampa plant. i’ve recently developed a fondness for Yuengling Premium Light. I ended up with a case of it somehow. And I was surprised at how good it was. I don’t care much for light beers, but it is actually pretty good.

at least Ibanez worked the pitcher a little bit.

This is supposed to be a good KK outing, the last one was bad so he should do just fine today, right?

I came on here and saw Yuengling and got really excited….then I realized my only options are generic. Bud Light for this girl today :(
