All Star Game Recap: NL Finally Wins It

The National League won the All Star Game for the first time since 1996, a year where the game was played at Veterans Stadium and Ricky Botallico was the Phillies only representative. Charlie Manuel led the 2010 NL All Stars to a 3-1 victory over the star studded American League.

Ubaldo Jiminez and Josh Johnson each pitched two superb innings. The American League scored their lone, unearned run against Hong-Chih Kuo.

Aggressive base-running by Scott Rolen eventually paid off. Brian McCann provided the knock with a three-run double with two outs in the seventh. Phillies fans have seen this so many times from McCann, so it was different being on the other side of a McCann clutch hit.  McCann was ultimately named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

Ryan Howard served as the designated hitter for the National League. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout against David Price. Howard also grounded out.

Roy Halladay pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing two hits and striking out one. Manuel may have misused him in the situation. Instead of bringing Halladay in earlier, Kuo was brought in. Halladay was forced to warm up twice.

Jonathan Broxton closed the doors to secure home field advantage for the National League.  Overall, it was a well-played game.  In the year of the pitcher, it was only fitting that the All Star Game was dominated by brilliant pitching performances.

Charlie didn’t misuse Roy… he let Kuo pitch because it was against 3 lefties in a row.. it made sense!

This was the fifth straight Midsummer Classic in which both teams combined for less than 10 runs. Thank you, steroids policy!

Halladay misused? LOL. I agree with Manny, Halladay was not misused. I do disagree that pitching Kuo made sense. I havent watched the Dodgers at all this year, but I have some people I work with are die hard Dodgers fans, and they both said “having Kuo in the All Star game was idiotic”. Not sure if its true, but seeing some of the hits he gave up, and the error, I would tend to agree. Now take the deep pop fly against Cano. Put that hit in a tru hitters park, like Yankees stadium, maybe even CBP, dodgers stadium, quite a few others, and chances are, the NL loses again. The only question about Manuel was using Kuo for that long. He saved Halladays arm, period. He needed to , because if we expect to make a push to overcome 3rd place, we need Halladay! The jeltz of the decade without a doubt goes to Girardi. LOL Keep Ortiz on the basepath, not using A-Roid…LOL. That was one of the dumbest things I have seen in a while. Makes you wonder what Girardi is think half the time. I mean look at the team they have, they are the best team MONEY can buy, the championship doesnt really say anything about his managing ability.

@ Brian Sr.; A-Rod was the only player left on the bench and Girardi,I think, wanted to use his bat (pinchhitting) and not as pinchrunner had the inning continued. Kudos to Charlie Manuel in using Rolen, Bourn and Byrd late in the game for defensive purposes.

Naw, the NL would have still won. Remember, McCann had a similar long fly ball that was caught at the warning track with 2 on that also would have been a HR. So I imagine if we score both of those as HRs and keep everything else in the game the same then the NL would still have won.
