CardinalsPhiladelphia Phillies (48-46) at St. Louis Cardinals (54-41)

Cole Hamels, LHP (7-7, 3.63 ERA) vs. Adam Wainwright, RHP (14-5, 2.02 ERA)

Time: 2:15 p.m., Busch Stadium
Weather: Mostly Sunny, 94
TV: CSN

I’ll keep this one plain and simple – if the Phillies don’t start winning games soon, they won’t last much longer in this race for either the NL East or the NL Wild Card. ┬áThis could be their toughest challenge of the road trip, which ends today. Adam Wainwright pitches for the Cards and he’s one of the best in all of baseball. Cole Hamels goes for the Phillies and he has been damn good lately. Sadly, that hasn’t mattered. The offense can do no right.

Keep up with PhilliesNation.com all day on our Trade Deadline Thread as well as the Gameday for all coverage surrounding Jayson Werth, Roy Oswalt, and any other name being floated about.

And, somehow, try to enjoy today’s game.

LINEUP: Polanco 3B, Victorino CF, Ibanez LF, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Rollins SS, Schneider C, Valdez 2B, Hamels P.

Your Gameday Beer: Tanqueray and Tonic

Forget beer. Give me a TNT on the rocks. Phillies fans need something strong right about now and this is a thirst quenching treat that will rock you after a few of them. Shake it well and drink it slow. You’ll need to. -By Pat

Fausto Carmona and Jhonny Peralta to the Phillies for Kyle Kendrick, J A Happ and two minor leaguers. Don’t be surprised.

I knew Jayson would strike out. Good at-bats at least, except for Shane of course. I dunno what’ll get this team going, but it has to happen now if we’re gonna have a chance.

Did anybody notice where Jayson’s head was at the end of the swing? Somewhere left of the LF foul pole.

    Dude’s totally lost.

Cole goes 1-2-3 with back-to-back-to-back Ks!

Phils need to get back to having those longggg at-bats that they used to have earlier in the season…

Right now, some guys like Polanco, Raul and Howard are doing it… but guys like Shane, Valdez, J-roll, and sometimes Werth, completely forgot how to be patient and keep swinging at the first-pitch, in the first inning!!! When was the last time you’ve seen Werth having those 7+ pitch at-bats in which he’d foul off a bunch of pitches??

Just be patient. Work on getting the pitcher out of the game. Phils were usually good at this. It just seems like they have no coherent plan before the game.. everybody’s on their own, trying to hit a bomb or something.

The other teams should just put a runner on third at the begining of every inning for the Phils. The Phils would never ever get a hit.

Like Michael Jordan. I used to say he should start every game with 5 fouls because then he could do whatver he wanted ( but I guess he got to do that anyway). MJ never fouled out of a game in his entire career.

Manny way to keep it positive.
I like the chances here. Work some counts guys.

CMON PHILS!! This inning Wainwright’s ERA might drop under 2.00 if we don’t get some runs

If they can just start to beat the weaker teams series. Then not get swept by the stronger teams come out with at leat 1-2. Then they can get something going here…but they are unable to beat the Pirates or Cubs or the likes

it’s just so boring looking at the phillies boxes every game. always 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 until the game is done and dusted. and on the rare ocassion when we actually get some early runs a bozo like kendrick throws up some meatballs.

I watch at MLB.com but I paid $19.99 or some crap for it. I listen to Franzke and LA and they have the Game Day silliness on the screen. You can pay more and watch the feed. Don’t know how much it is. But you can do it all instantly.

Uh wow – Is that Werth on 2nd & Rollins on 1st?! Jeeze. Scawy.

  • Posts: 0 Phan in the outfield

Werth ran for 3rd. How come JRoll didn’t go for 2nd?

Wainwright is dirty… you should’ve seen the Curveball that he got Victorino to K … fell right of the table

I sensed a lack of communication between Jimmy and Werth.

phils have had runners in scoring position 3 out of 4 innings.. eventually they will knock one in

  • Posts: 0 Phan in the outfield

Nobody is communicating anymore for anything. They’re almost crashing (sometimes they ARE – witness LF the other night) in the OF, nobody knows what they’re doing on base, nobody knows what they’re doing at the plate – I don’t understand what’s happened to this whole team.
