Manuel started different people because they were facing a righty last night. They had faced a lefty the night before.

When you have to use subs, you have to mix things up more, because sometimes mediocre righthanded batters can’t hit a mediocre right handed pitcher, and lefties might not hit a lefty. Valdez and Ransom aren’t exactly Utley.

Might want to avoid starting Oswalt against Atlanta altogether as they have really pounded him in the past.

It seems Roy will be fine as long as it isnt against the NL East, which can be kind of a problem considering thats the division we are in. Prior to tonight, he had a 7+ ERA against the NL East (not including the Phillies, or Mets, because he does well against the Mets). I am a little concerned that his numbers apparently SUCK against the NL East, and didnt get any better today, his last outing prior to this one was 5 IP, 6 ER’s. How about his last start against the Nationals…2.1 IP, 4 ER’s. Last September against the Braves…2IP, 6 ER’s. The list goes on against Florida, Atlanta and Washington. So it looks like his ERA outside of the NL East is high 2′s, inside the NL East is high 7′s. I’ll hold out to see if he can get his head of his butt!

Also, can we trade Dobbs? Maybe we can trade Dobb to the Orioles in exchange for $50,000? Dobbs flat out SUCKS! Ironic how Charlie started Dobbs tonigh instead of either Valdez at 2nd, and Polly at 3rd, or Ransom at third, after they were both involved in the win last night. Why is Cholly resting the guys who do well the night before? After Brown came up and did really well, he benched him the next night. Maybe we can trade Dobbs for Bruntlett. Bruntlett also SUCKED, but at least he had a brain.

After going on a short burst of hits and runs, Howard is back to his 2-4 strike outs a game again. Werth and Ibanez are still hitting though.

good for ja happ. oswalt will be fine. what u thought the braves weren’t going to win another road game all season? the problem here is the phils offensive approach. it cripples this team for stretchs at a time. no time for the phils to let up. can’t waist all the progress they made in the last week.

No worries – the Phils did not show lack of gumption in early April when they kicked the *$&# out of the Nats. Its the O or lack of.
It will get righted, not a worry – please. We have a ton of games left against teams in our own division – this will be fun and scary at times – buckle in!

IF I were going to get concerned about anything, it would be the Phils lack of offense the last two nights.

Oswalt should not have been asked to pitch so soon after just landing here. He needed a day or three to settle in.

Dominic Brown came up with two hits. I hope he makes it impossible to not only send him back down but for us to not start him! Howard, who has carried this team, has earned a night or two off. I hope he gets it.

Lidge will be energized by having Oswalt around.

This team is going to the play-offs, and they are going to the World Series!

Go get them tomorrow boys and start a new win streak. Nice to see Dominic Brown get two more hits. Oswalt (6-13) will have his ups and downs and can’t be expected to be as consistent as the “ace” Halladay (who is?). I’m always annoyed with that Pollyanish gusher named Tom McCarthy in broadcasting Phillies games. He practically went Ga Ga in waxing poetic over Oswalt and hardly paying any attention to the game on the field. And as Oswalt was being pounded by the Nats, McCarthy started looking for excuses. Thank goodness, Chris Wheeler calmly told McCarthy that Stammen is the better pitcher tonight. That’s telling it like it is.

Roy and the Phils will be fine. the ats will be a tough out.
I posted this in another thread the Nats are 19-18 vs he NL east and the Phils are 15-18.
Also the Braves aren’t gutless punks like the Mets. Which makes catching them tougher then being down 7 to the Mets with 15 to go.
It wont be easy. But I think the Phils can and will do it and it is going to be fun.

Hey, how about that JA HAPP, who pitched six shutout innings for the Astros, giving up two hits and getting the win? Did Ed Wade know something we didn’t? Is Oswalt on a sharp decline and did we really get fleeced? Questings worth asking. This is not Disneyland folks? Don’t celebrate yet. Or, it could just be the new team jitters for Oswalt.
