Brett Myers makes his return to Philadelphia where he spent his first eight years. He won 73 games and a World Series ring as part of the Phillies during his tenure here, although it was a rather tumultuous one. Boo or cheer Myers tonight? That’s the question.
Some late injury news, Placido Polanco is out the lineup with what Charlie Manuel called a sore elbow. He also said it was no big deal in his pregame chat with reporters. That means the Phillies full starting-8 still won’t be together. They have been together only a 8 times this season.
Tonight, Joe Blanton will look to buck an ugly trend of sub-par first innings. His ERA to begin games is 8.55 (19 ER in 20 IP). As bad as he’s been in the first inning, it’s been even worse later in Blanton’s starts. Between the seventh and eighth innings, Big Joe has tossed just 9 2/3 innings, however, he’s allowed 16 earned runs in that short period. In between, he hasn’t been so bad, but tonight he really needs to prove he can start well and end well during a performance, something seldom seen this year.
What’s slightly odd is, even though Blanton for the most part has struggled, the Phillies are 7-0 in his last seven starts at CBP.
Today’s lineup: Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez 3B, Blanton P .

Its going to be a good game tonight. I’d love for the offense to send Myers to the showers early tonight, but something is telling me he’s going to pitch a good game out of revenge lol

Brett Myers is definitely pitching a good season, no doubt. But we created him. Its not like were unfamilar with his pitching. It could benefit us, or it could blow up right in our face…Hopefully it benefits us

Brett Myers is gone. He has talent but it often was absent here as he waddled through one issue after another. He is having a good year with the Astros and helped us win a world championship. Frankly, I do not miss him and consider him to be a player with a tainted character. I do wish him success when pitching against every team but the Phils.

We didnt need Myers. I guess hes better than Blanton but coming into this year that was even in question. Would people here trust him going into next year that hed would have his head on straight and be this good? I wouldnt.
Need to win this. Phils can post a win before the Braves end. Seems whenever they lose before the phils the phils follow suit.

there is no way charlie can use him in the post season. We have to go three man rotation , it can be done , in a 7 game series let kendrick pitch 1 game.

Why isnt someone working with Blanton getting warmed up correctly? Obviously he has problem with that or we will jsut spot the other team runs every start? the defense saved us a 4 run inning minimum maybe more.

See Mike. Chase and Howard coming back has slowed the team down. I knew this would happen. But why even mention it? You have to play them till they start getting back into it for the playoffs. You have to let them slow down the freight train a little. Because when they get back their groove back its lights out. I am still looking for best record in the NL.

I swear sometimes when you see ex-Phils like Rowand, Marlon Byrd and others you deep down wish them well. Brett Myers exceeds Padilla in how much of a tool the guy is and how glad you are just to not see him in a Phils uniform.
You could have a guy dying of hemorrhoids on the mound and Brett Myers would still be the sorest a-hole!
