Just try to put it into perspective, guys…
A month ago (maybe less??) the Phils were 7 (SEVEN!!!) games out of first.
After today…..3.
(Still not over….maybe 2….I can hope and dream, right??)

The 12 year old kids in the LLWS play better than these guys. However, I’m confident things will turn around soon.

In reality Houston has always been a good late season team and we know better than any Ed Wade teams are built to suck for most of the year before they turn it on and leave everyone wondering what if…
The problem here is the ‘Stros have played well and the Phils have very few good things they can take from this series, especially on offense.

MikeD, What you need to understand is Braves are not at dearth of runs like Phillies are right now.., We lost a game in colorado after scoring 10runs in the first 3 innings. and Historically that happened in that ballpark, Its not the first time ,,
where as Phillies scored a total of 6 or 7 runs in the entire 4 game series (1 inning left) against astros.. ,Thats what you should be worried about..,

Also Braves are under no pressure at all, This team has performed much better than what Bobby cox deserved in his final year. They gave him 35 come from behind wins, 22 last at bat wins, something like that.. Bobby should have enough of those memories as parting gift, barring Derek Lowe we don’t have a big contract left on anyone, Frank Wren has enough money to get a couple of good bats if needed next year..,
Having said that those 6 games will be very interesting.., Bring them on…

What’s been wrong with our pitching? If anything the pitching is a good takeaway from this series. Not perfect, but certainly good at times, serviceable at others.

anyone want to predict where the Phillies will be when they return home. Braves have a 7 game @ home against the Marlins and Mets. Phils go on the road to play the best team in baseball, then play the Dodgers and one against the Rockies. We may be out of contention come sept 3 with the way we are playing.

Have to feel good about the the trip because if it goes bad now the season could be all but done.

Good point Nick. the starting pitching has held the ‘Stros to a an amount of runs the offense should be able to overcome in every game and irrelevant of the controversy, the bats have not been there to help good performances.

DESIBRAVE — You are right about the present . However its 8/26 , sept’s not here yet. We have every right to say look up the last 3 septembers in regards to these phillies. Look where the Phils have been the last couple years on sept 1st. Howard will get his swing back ,
Chase has been hitting the ball hard right at people this series. Our pitching has been pretty good , and theres no way we go thru all of sept scoring 2 runs a game. I do believe whatever happens next week
the N.L playoff teams will not be decided t’ill the last week , including your braves. Even if your lead is 4 or 5 after next week you won nothing. All the teams in the hunt have flaws. I will quote peter gammons to make my point. gammons said ” Knowone in the N.L wants to play the phillies in the N.L if they get in. ” he went on to talk about theyre pedigree , experience and that on paper theyre still the best team in the n.l———— season’s not over right now , or will it be over next week no matter what happens.

mike – WHY DO YOU TYPE LIKE THIS? I said I dislike the gang mentality. Own it or not, that’s what has been going on for 2 1/2 months.
Andrew – I said I wasn’t pointing at you. But I don’t understand why he should be expected to carry the team either, esp when everyone wants him gone at the end of the season. In any case, my reaction was a cumulative result – kind of – enough’s enough. Especially when we’ve just lost 4 in a row to the freaking Astros. His avg is 301, he hit a HR last night & got one of the few hits today. He’s the least of the issues right now.
I realize we played for crap these 4 games but I can’t help it I also feel like the umps did a job on us in the 1st 2 games.

^message to the Phillies: Lose games when your opponents outplayed you, don’t let them outwork you two nights in a row (let alone 4)… And if it looks like they haven’t worked that hard you have to start working out how you can make opposing teams pay for their wins.

I can’t help it I still think they’ll wind up in a good position. Somehow this will work out. I feel like these guys kind of thrive on adversity or … others believing they won’t make it.
Maybe they need it.
I don’t need it. But they don’t care about my stress levels . . . they don’t care if I need a walking stick in my 30′s.

He is the least of the issues. Outside of the getting thrown out on the intentional walk and the not sliding or hitting the catcher. I havent been hard on him. To me those two plays were bad. The first one being inexcusable. I dont think he should carry the team just wish he would. wish anyone would. If he hit 20 homers in sept id be happy. Because its free another team will pay for them next year. Understand what I mean? the better he does the more another team has to pay him.
Thats that. 4 game sweeeeep
See everyone at 10 tomorrow.
Get to watch seinfeld and the office ( 7-8 PM fox 5 DC) 2 nights in a row. Thats a good thing.

Like I said 6 weeks ago….The Phillies just need to be CLOSE by the time September comes. That’s next week. By then, they will have played 5 more games….that’s 5 more games for Howard to get in the groove…which they will.
Seriously….we are in a GREAT position….especially considering where we were a month ago.
Gotta stay positive (I know it’s hard) and gotta keep it in perspective.

Don’t feel bad about getting swept by a great, world series type team like the Astros in your own park. Oh, wait. Nevermind.

This poor series puts a big question mark on September for the team and which way they are going to go next month. Think I will wait to renew my monthly MLB.TV subscription for next month.

The way I look at it is if all you fair-weather, front-runners want to bail and not go to games….then that’s better for me and the other TRUE fans….because it will be easier to get good seats at the ballpark.
