New York Mets (54-55) at Philadelphia Phillies (61-48)
Johan Santana, LHP (8-6, 3.20 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (7-7, 3.56 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Citizens Bank Park

A huge eighth inning rally helped lead the Phillies to a 7-5 victory over the New York Mets last night. Tonight, the ball will be handed to Cole Hamels, who can hopefully go deep into tonight’s game after a rocky bullpen performance yesterday. Hamels will be opposed by Johan Santana, who hasn’t had quite the year many expected, although still having a solid season.
In his career against the Mets, Cole Hamels has lacked support from his offense, falling 2-5, despite having an ERA in the threes. On the other hand, Santana has gotten run support, posting a 4-2 record with an ERA above four in games against the Phillies.
Placido Polanco has the best numbers against Santana throughout his career. He has a .386 average with a home run. David Wright has the best numbers against Hamels, having a .345 average against him.
The Phillies look to continue their hot steak, both at home and on the road. Even though this team is plagued with injuries, the replacement players are doing their part to help the team win. Good teams need non-star players to step it up in key situations.
Your Gameday Beer – Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA will do just fine. Not as powerful as its 90 or 120 minute older brothers, this IPA is hoppy but not overwhelming. It as a smooth, creamy and rich foundation with hints of citrus, pine and sweet malts. Eat some pizza with it today and get it delivered. – By Brian
Go Phillies!

Same right handed line up with Ibanez hitting second.
Sweeney hitting clean up again.
Lets bury the mess and put them out of their misery.

Mets lineup is just horrible. Please do bury us. At least the young kids will come up and play a lot and Jerry will be gone.

Tom I would think Jerry could be gone at any second?
Hes under .500 for his career with the Mets. 3 years isnt a fluke.
Just because Willie Randolph was the worst ever doesnt make him any better. But the longer the current Mets management team lasts the better it is for the Phils.
But really the albatross is Omar more than anything else.

Looking at the Mets line up Wright and Pagan could be on my team. Thats it. Its a pretty shameful line up. Cole should be dealing.

Santana can pitch. I hope we get to him early. I also hope Cole has another excellent outing. I do not think this will be a high scoring game. Prediction: Phils 4, Mets 3.

Jay I traded Texiera and Larry Jones and Bumgarer for Lincecum and Latos and Chone Figgins. Just made me sick to have Larry or any brave or Mutt on my team.

Hey, guys.
Does it make anyone else inexplicably gleeful to hear that Pat Burrell helped the Giants help us move within one game of the Braves last night?
I’m projecting a long overdue win for Cole Hamels tonight.

Mets are one of the highest payrolls but they are also one of the most over-paid collections of talent in baseball yet their fans think they are a contender when you listen to them whine on their blogs. Do they realize no one has feared that team in 4 years now?? They have 3 or 4 good players surrounded by a bunch of garbage. They remind me of us from the mid to late 90s with a much higher payroll than we had to boot. Would love to see them kill Santana again tonight and send the the Phils into first.

Pat the Bat always has a place in my heart. Unfortunately I think we may face him in the playoffs.
funny he couldnt make it in the AL or as a DH. I always thought his fielding was under rated. I cant remember him costing us games defensively.

Its a New york thing they really believe everything they have is the best. Basicly the fans get caught up in the hype. but I thnk reality has set in. We have one Mets fan left here and hes a good guy who gets it.

@Ken
Most rational Mets fans realize this isn’t a contending team and it hasn’t been all year. We want a major overhaul

Mets hitting .215 as a team since all star break AKA the return of Beltout. when they announced they were jsut going to put him in teh line up and bat him 4th I just laughed.
I mean the guy screwed the team with how he handled his surgery. Hes never cared since he signed the contract. With Delgado off the team he is the poster child for the mets now.

Werth is looking a lot more patient tonight.
I wonder if Schmitty would consider a broadcasting gig? I could listen to that guy talk for three hours. Of course, I’ve been wanting Dutch to get off the pregame shows and do the actual games since we lost Harry.
Pitching is ON tonight.

So much for the notion that Santana has lost it.
Cole cannot get a break. He’s a few pitches short of another no-decision great effort.
