Roy Halladay hasn’t received a whole lot of run support this year. The Phillies scored one run yesterday, but Halladay took care of the rest, blanking the Nationals over seven innings. When Halladay is on the mound, there is a good feeling that the Phillies win. On the other hand, when Kyle Kendrick pitches, it’s always uncertain as to what type of performance he will have.
The Nationals will send out their young stud, Stephen Strasburg. If you haven’t heard of this guy, you probably haven’t paid any attention to baseball. The 22-year old was the first overall pick in the 2009 draft, and his game can’t get any more hyped. Strasburg throws a 100 mph fastball regularly, featuring a changeup at around 90 mph. You read that right: a 90 mph changeup. Regardless, his stuff is electric.
Tonight will be the very first time the Phillies will face Strasburg, but there will be many more meetings between the two. So far, Strasburg has made two starts since returning from the disabled list with a shoulder injury. The rookie has been under the spotlight in each and every one of his starts, but so far as yet to disappoint. He’s the real deal.
Maybe Ryan Howard can greet Strasburg with a long ball. Howard returns from the disabled list tonight, which is earlier than what was originally expected.
Your Gameday Beer- Sweaty Betty Blonde
This beer is bananas. No, it’s not a banana beer, but it has hints of musty banana bread which believe it or not is a good thing. It’s another good summer beer, an American Pale Wheat Ale that will remind you of a Belgian White. It finishes a little rough, so drink it fast but take some time to enjoy fried chicken with it. – By Brian

Jeff,
No one is even closer to DOC. He is the modern day Greg Maddux.
I know wainwright and Jiminez are in contention for Cy Young this season but DOC is not far behind.., I would vote to DOC,

andrew , i was 17 when carlton, schmitty and co. won the w.s , so i have great memories of those late 70′s teams , my dad had season tickets from 74 to 84 and i went to hundreds of games during those years.I remember when the vet was new and state of the art. Went to
all the playoff games and w.s games from that period it was great. Except losing all those playoff games to tommy lasorda’s dodgers that our 1st base coach was on. Davey Lopes was very good player , steve garvey , ron cey , those dodger teams were something and it seemed like we battled them all the time in the late 70′s. You younger guy’s out there have to look into the N.L.C.S of 1980 when we beat the astro’s.
Some people call it the greatest N.L.C.S in history , xtra innings , nolan ryan , steve carlton , it had everything , including the astro’s with the ugliest uniform in the history of baseball.

Phillies — four hits, one run. enough said for tonight. The Phils took a bus ride to Stinkville and fell asleep on the bus, and their bats stayed in Stinkville for three games. We were lucky to win one of those and tomorrow is another day. Only one word sums it up –”*#2!!*^%!”

I agree with what Tim Kurjikan said on Baseball tonight just now . He picked Braves to win NL East and Phillies to win Wildcard.
Good night Folks!

andrew hold on brother !!!!!!! chase can’t be mentioned with scmitty yet. ———— best 3rd baseman in the history of the game goin back over 100 years. I love chase , but not yet , for one : defense , chase is getting better at his D but schmitty was a perenial gold glove winner at the hot corner. Scmitty hit , what was it 563 homers not on the juice.
A couple mvp’s and a w.s mvp , i love chase bro , but he’s knowhere
near the legend of schmitty yet in phillies history

hey desibrave , i hope that happens. I hope you realise if that series happens vegas will have the phils as the favorite even if the braves win the division. ——— i still think theres a chance the braves don’t make the playoffs.

Utley plays a tougher position
Schmidt is the best 3b ever
but if you go down as the best 2b ever your better
agree its 10 years off though
utley is the only current phillie contending if howard hits 800 homers i wont put him ahead of schmidt

I said the Phillies have been hot and cold with the bats all season and tonight is another example. On paper, the Phillies lineup is much better than the Braves, but that hasn’t been the reality this year. Our pitching is superior to y’all’s, so that’s why we’ve been in 1st place since May.
