Washington Nationals (53-70) at Philadelphia Phillies (69-53)
Scott Olsen (3-5, 5.13 RA) vs. Roy Oswalt (8-13, 3.36 ERA)
Time: 1:35, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Thunderstorms, 81

Kyle Kendrick was rocked and Stephen Strasburg struck out six in the Nationals’ 8-1 victory last night. The series is split at a game apiece, but this is a series that the Phillies need to win. Taking advantage of a last place team certainly helps in the standings. The Phillies have a good chance with Roy Oswalt on the mound.
Oswalt would like another chance against Washington. His first start as a Phillie was at Nationals Park, and he did not make the Phillies debut that he would have liked.
When he was a Marlin, Scott Olsen said that he “hates the Phillies.” He must dispise facing them, since he has a 5.56 earned run average against them. Olsen has missed some time due to injuries this year, but he has really struggled in the month of August, posting an ERA near 11 in three starts.
The Nationals have not won back-to-back games at Citizens Bank Park since 2005. The Phillies would like to keep it that way, and boost their playoff chances.
Today’s lineup:Rollins (SS), Ibanez (LF), Polanco (3B), Howard (1B), Werth (RF), Victorino (CF), Ruiz (C), Valdez (2B), Oswalt (P). Just a scheduled off day for Utley.
Your gamenight beer: Today’s offering is from Harpoon, and it’s Harpoon Munich Type Dark Beer. It’s your typical brown ale: Hoppy, malty, roasted. Toffee-like. Coffee-like. A nice beer to have, and definitely fitting with some ribs. – By Tim
GO PHILLIES!

Andrew has to be 12. He has absolutely NO clue what he’s talking about. Nothing! I’m not saying I’m right all the time, I know I’m not, but this Andrew post some very ignorant trash.

Bravoman, Come on now.. you have to give Howard Credit. I have absolutely no doubts that Ryan Howard is a player that every team would like to have. Well we may end up having our own Howard in Jason Heyward but that might take a few years.
Ryan Howard owner braves pitching for the last few years and ask any Braves pitcher they will tell you how scary it is to see Howard taking them to an Opposite field Homer (not just in Citizens park but in Turner field too).

Jay, you talking about Howard’s power, or all around play? Power? No. All around play? Yes. Heyward is a 5 tool athlete who’s power has yet to come fully. It will and he will be the more complete ball player than a Ryan Howard. Remember, Heyward just turned 21 and Howard is already 30 something. Not fair to compare, really.

Ignorant like posting on another teams site.
Try to get out of your moms basement. Maybe ask a girl for a date?
Attend a game with someone. You would double attendence.
Whats more of a disgrace? a major league team in first place getting 1200 fans for a day game or one of thier mongoloid extra chromosome fans posting on another teams site about how great they are?

bravo : you can say what you want about whether or not the braves would take howard , it doesn’t matter. All that matters is the truth, and the truth is your braves are OVERACHIEVEING and we’ll see if they can continue. It is not debateable who’s better. Next year we get to start the year with OSWALT and i doubt very much we’ll use 40 players on a 25 man roster next year. So your little engine that could better make sure it chugs all the way into the station this year. I just want to see you and desibrave here when were in the w.s and your watchin. Some years the best team doesn’t win , but this ain’t one of those years. I’ll send you guys a phils hat in october , the one that has the little patch on it that says 3 years in a row N.L —— it will have a little 1940 on it to with a 2010 —– 70 years baby since its been done in the N.L —– just keep sayin i think i can , i think i can ——-but you CAN’T !!!!!!!!!!!

Bravoman,
Are you really a Braves fan or an imposter from mets or some other org trying to make Braves fans look bad ? Dude.. come on now, what the heck has Howard’s nose to do with his swing :) Be patient man, we will be in WCS this year with our pitching this year..
MikeD,
I am not worried about Oswalt, go check his performance against braves career wise, He has no wins and never pitched more than 5 innings and has an ERA of 7+ or something like that..

You know, I’ve heard so many people bitch about how small CBP is, I thought I would check on the facts. I know, facts aren’t fashionable, but here they are:
Right field foul pole: CBP is 330 feet, exactly the same as Turner Field and Citi Field
Center field: CBP is 401 feet, exactly the same as Turner Field; 7 feet less than Citi Field
Deepest point in CBP is 409 feet, apparently 8 feet deeper than Turner Field, 6 feet less than Citi Field
Left field foul pole: CBP is 329 feet, 6 feet less than Turner Field and Citi Field
So the biggest difference between these three fields is less than two-tenths of one percent. But don’t let facts get in the way of your opinions. Please, rave on about how tiny CBP is.

The phils are rolling.
The 3 aces are really of epic status. If Madson and Lidge control the 8th and 9th this team is very very good.
Honestly I am focused on best record in NL and thus home field throughout playoffs. It can be done.

Bravo,
Howard is 30, not 30-something. He will turn 31 in the off season. And Heyward will never, ever hit 58 HR in a season. Bank on it. Howard’s rookie numbers were more than Heywards projected rookie numbers in just 88 games. 88 games! Heyward’s missed 16 games this season, let’s make it 20 for the sake of argument. So Howard in 88 games will dwarf Heyward in 142 games. Them’s the numbers, y’all.

The Eagles had a CB named Bobby Taylor.
He once sacked Troy Aikman 2 times in one game on a monday night and forever the media and fans considered him the greatest thing.
He wasnt that good.
For whatever reason. And I do believe the anti philly stuff runs deep The media and public decided to make this the opinion of the stadium that its a bandbox. Its simply not true.
Its a hitters park yes but its not a huge deal. Now if other teams pitchers believe the hype and it gets in thier heads then thats called a home team advantage.

Andrew,
CBP ranked 16th in home runs last year despite being the host of the number one home run hitting team in all of baseball. How is the HR total possibly that low if the number one bashers in MLB live there? Simple, it’s because it’s not the band box it is made out to be.
A lie repeated often enough becomes the truth.
It’s 408 to the left of center with a 21 foot wall. That’s a real band box, eh?

I know biz but it is what it is. Seriously if opposing pitchers believe it and are scared thats good for the phils.
I LOVE the park. And since its been opened the phils have been very good. Thats going to breed animosity from other teams fans and announcers.

Houston match ups
monday myers vs blanton
tuesday norris vs hamels
wednesday happ vs halladay
should be interesting
I believe if memory serves me right orris is a bit of a skell
happ and myers have reason to pitch well. If happ beats halladay we will never hear the end of it.

i only gave him back what he started ———- i give all people a chance no matter what color or where theyre from. I go to sarasota fla twice a year for the last 15 years visiting family. I’m moving there when my youngest graduates high school in 4 years. I have nothing against the south , just the bigots. We have them up here also , but if you don’t think theres more white racist’s down there your being naive.

Look, the Braves have been in first place since the last day of May. The Phils were supposed to take the lead back some time in the next couple of months. Well, the Braves continued to play well, and maintained the lead. No worries from the Phillies, right? Chipper Jones goes down and Phillies fans are thinking “The Braves’ fun ends now, that was cute”. Well at the time the Braves had a 2.5 game lead. Two weeks later ….. a 2.5 game lead. But wait, weren’t you supposed to have the lead by now?
The Braves easily have the pitching advantage. The Phillies have an offensive advantage, but not so easily. Why you ask? The Phillies have scored 579 runs this year and the Braves have scored 579 runs, as well.
And Derrek Lee has only dawned the Tomahawk for three days.
The Braves have held the divison lead alone for about three months now. There’s a reason for that. The Braves are better than the Phillies.

Hey y’all! Uh, I guess Adam LaRoche, who is white, and Jeff Francoeur don’t have funny looking noses. I posted plenty of jokes about their noses when they were on the Braves. No, I’m not a racist. I have plenty of black friends and we kid with each other all the time. Shutup and enjoy the Braves having this lead in the division.
