Well I’m not sure what more can be said after last night, but the fact remains–the Phillies are still 2 games back of first, going up against a fierce rival that’s given them fits at times this year. Those F-ing Mets send R.A. Dickey to the mound, a 35-year-old knuckleballer who is pitching effectively in the majors for the first time this season. Dickey is quite literally a freak of nature. You know the ulnar collateral ligament? The one they replace in Tommy John surgery? Dickey doesn’t have one in his pitching elbow. Dickey was an academic all-American at Tennessee in the 1990s, and says that if he weren’t a major league ballplayer, he would have liked to be an English professor. This is not your average MLB pitcher.

In other news, Carlos Ruiz has been scratched from the lineup due to soreness in his right quad. On the flip side, Shane Victorino will make his first start since coming back from his own muscle strain. He’ll play center and bat sixth, moving Jayson Werth back to right. God willing, this lineup will give Cole Hamels some run support for once.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Polanco 3B, Ibanez LF, Sweeney 1B, Werth RF, Victorino CF, Schneider C, Valdez 2B, Hamels P

Your gameday beer: Anchor Steam Liberty Ale

A special top-fermenting ale yeast is used during fermentation and is responsible for many of Liberty Ale’s subtle flavors and characteristics. Carbonation is produced by an entirely natural process called “bunging,” which produces champagne-like bubbles. Enjoy with some steaks on the grill for today’s game.
