The Phillies have rebounded quickly after being swept by the lowly Houston Astros. Now, the Phillies are on the verge of sweeping the first place San Diego Padres. This series has been about pitching, as both teams haven’t gathered too many runs. That’s usually how PETCO plays out anyway.
Cole Hamels, a San Diego native, always has success when facing the Friars. Hamels has a 3.18 ERA against the Padres in his career, but a more impressive 2.18 ERA at PETCO Park. Hamels keeps improving as the season progresses, however the problem seems to be run support. The lack of run support for Hamels is getting extremely tiring. Hopefully that changes today.
Overall, Clayton Richard has solid numbers for the season. His repitoire includes a two-seam fastball, a slurve, and a changeup. He typically keeps the ball down, forcing many ground balls.
Your gameday beer: For the slumber party, try a Coronado Golden, a blonde ale from the Coronado Brewing Co. of San Diego. It’s an average beer, but blonde ales tend to range wildly in the expert line. Pair this with a late-night order of pizza. Do it. – By Tim
GO PHILLIES!

Cards are down 4-0 against the Nats as well, but we know about the Nats bull pen.
Petco really helps Cole because he doesn’t get hurt as much by the long ball.

Those mighty Braves. This was too predictable.
Paging bravomorono
If the Phils dont win the division it will be the Marlins.
If the Phils can win this its a sweep at SD. The team with the best record in the NL. I was saying before the astros series that best record in the NL was my personal goal for the team. IMO the back end of the pen is now solid. Friday night not withstanding. Now before the year is over both howard and Utley are going to get hot. This is possible. Need to keep rolling though.
How about 8 hits and 4 runs minimum today? Just saying

Osawalt should be happy he chose us. The Cards are the same every year. Pitching good offense is ok. The Padres do not scare me. No offense. The Braves will fall apart. They are not very good. That leaves us. We will take over and these guys will start to hit. What I like about these games against good pitching, we are winning. Thats playoff baseball. You wont score ten runs when you get in.

Halladay goes tomorrow vs Kuorda. Then Kendrick vs a skell (could be a problem) then the marquee matchup of oswalt vs Kershaw. I like the pitching matchups.

Think the Phillies are morally against scoring first inning runs? When was the last time they scored a run in the first inning? When was the last time they got a hit in the first inning?

They have scored 2 or fewer runs 44 times this year.
Hard to do that when you score in the first. At least they are consistant.

I understand that but if Howie is the superstar of this team there is not sitting down. This is down the wire baseball. Please child. I heard Wheeler say Charlie said they have a good pitcher in there and Howard will sit. Then why dont they sit him everytime there is a good lefty. My God. There is a chance he can hit a homer with his pwer.

I actually agree with you, jeff. Howard needs to play. There’s no way he’s gonna find his stroke unless he faces live, game pitching.

Ii guess Cole is going to have to get a hit for himself. The pitchers have been one of our better hitting slots lately.

I would take Howard and all of his ks with one arm tied around his back. A beer in the other hand playing ps3 then have sweeney play over him. you need your 25 million dollar man in every game down the stretch. THIS HUGE PEOPLE.

Damn you Marlins
Josh johnson even
They are a pretty crappy franchise that certainly doesnt deserve a new stadium. Should be moved to a place that supports baseball.

LOL
Hanley feels light headed.
Was reading an article about how messed up this season has been for the Marlins. I actually hope the Braves would get the WC. Playing them in an NLCS would be the easiest playoff series ever.
