You want a playoff atmosphere? Well, you got it my friend. Tonight the Bank will be rocking – rally towels and all. The Phillies enter with a three game lead over the Braves in the NL East with 12 games remaining, six against each other.

To add to the drama, the Braves scheduled starter, Jair Jurrjens, has been scratched due to injury. 24-year-old rookie Brandon Beachy will start in his place. This move may favor the Braves as the Phils have not done well against guys they have not seen before. Not to mention Jurrjens’ struggles lately. Beachy has spent most of this season in AA and went 2-0 with a 2.17 ERA in 8 games in AAA before being called up earlier this month. He has an impressive 5.29 K/BB ratio – but of course, he has yet to face major league hitting.

And the Phillies have plenty of that. Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Phils have won 11 of their last 12. They are hot at the right time; even if those wins came against the bottom-feeders of the division. Nonetheless the bats are connecting, especially those of Ryan Howard and Raul Ibanez. Plus, Cole Hamels is tossing some of his best games of his career. He has given up just a single run in his last 31 1/3 innings and over his last 13 games is 5-3 with a stingy 1.79 ERA.

There is no doubt tonight’s game a big one. Where will you be watching?

Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Hamels P

Victory LagerYour gameday beer: Victory Lager
Pure and simple describes this offering from our friends at Victory. The well-balanced German-style lager satisfies the taste buds with roasted malts and flowery hops. It’s a nice substitute for the traditional American Lagers like Yuengling or Sam Adams. Lagers go great with anything, but I particularly prefer a good pepperoni pizza.

GO PHILLIES!

Mike, Agreed it is going to be a disappointment for Braves fans if they don’t make playoffs, But honestly speaking we never expected to be here in the race after we lost 9 games in a row in April and were 5 games below .500 . I am so thank ful for the 99 days where we led the division. I am glad for what Braves did this year inspite of losing Medlen and the heart and soul of the team Chipper Jones..,

I agree Kate, make him work though. I wish Werth had a better at bat

miked, the Braves “should” make the playoffs. They go 7-5 the rest of the way, which is doable, they should have a playoff spot waiting for them.

We’ve got a perfect example of classy Braves fan vs. trashy Braves tonight. I’ll talk with Desi anytime.

Beachy ain’t bad. He’s getting hit, but the damage is minimal.

Cole has been pitching well, 46 pitches. STRUCK EM OUT.

desi —-April games count but don’t matter as far as how you finish. As far as not expecting to be here , you may not have expected it but i read a couple publications that picked the braves to compete for the wc and one that even picked them for the division. I didnt see a single writer or TV analyst that didnt pick the braves for at least 2nd in the division and win around 90 games. You sound like knowone saw this coming at all , theyre not the pirates. Peter Gammons picked — PHILS , CARDINALS , ROCKYS , AND BRAVES FOR WC. He picked Rockys to win the pennant.

What an at bat by Chooch

My advice to the Braves would be to take Ruiz out somehow. Just like Victorino took McCann out a few years back. Ruiz is already pestering us in the series.

great at bat by valdez , turn the line up over

MikeD, I have to totally disagree with you man.., you make no sense saying April games don’t count.., All 162 games count. It will average out over the season. if you don’ win in the beginning then you have to make up for them in the end. What i was talking about was the momentum.., I never believed Braves would make it to this stage after losing 9 games in a row..

Only a matter of time. They’re hitting the ball hard — just right at Braves.

bravo there you go again saying something stupid , you cant help yourself can you ? Knowone took McCann out on purpose , its not the NFL

miked, right. Beachy is on borrowed time since he probably won’t go more than 5 or 6 tonight anyways. I like our pen, but Philly’s offense is pretty lethal.

We had injures the worst injures we’ve ever had Desibrave….hows the rock you’ve been sleeping under

miked, Victorino held his head low for one prupose…. to take Mac out. Now, say that comment is dumb if you want, but even Pete Rose never went in helmet first. Sure, he fractured many bodies with his power drives, but Victorino used a weopon…. his helmet instead of his shoulders.

I’m sorry you guys have to witness that former Yankees mascot trying to hit MLB pitching. Melky can’t help it that he sucks so bad. Blame it on small shoes.

DESI , — I didnt say they dont count , my sentence starts with ” april games count ” read it again. I said it doesnt matter meaning the big picture. If you think a team stinks just because they have a losing streak in april I can only surmise you just started watching baseball. Its not how you start its how you finish , its a 162 game season. Do you know how many bad april’s world series champions have had ? Look it up.
