You want a playoff atmosphere? Well, you got it my friend. Tonight the Bank will be rocking – rally towels and all. The Phillies enter with a three game lead over the Braves in the NL East with 12 games remaining, six against each other.

To add to the drama, the Braves scheduled starter, Jair Jurrjens, has been scratched due to injury. 24-year-old rookie Brandon Beachy will start in his place. This move may favor the Braves as the Phils have not done well against guys they have not seen before. Not to mention Jurrjens’ struggles lately. Beachy has spent most of this season in AA and went 2-0 with a 2.17 ERA in 8 games in AAA before being called up earlier this month. He has an impressive 5.29 K/BB ratio – but of course, he has yet to face major league hitting.

And the Phillies have plenty of that. Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Phils have won 11 of their last 12. They are hot at the right time; even if those wins came against the bottom-feeders of the division. Nonetheless the bats are connecting, especially those of Ryan Howard and Raul Ibanez. Plus, Cole Hamels is tossing some of his best games of his career. He has given up just a single run in his last 31 1/3 innings and over his last 13 games is 5-3 with a stingy 1.79 ERA.

There is no doubt tonight’s game a big one. Where will you be watching?

Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Hamels P

Victory LagerYour gameday beer: Victory Lager
Pure and simple describes this offering from our friends at Victory. The well-balanced German-style lager satisfies the taste buds with roasted malts and flowery hops. It’s a nice substitute for the traditional American Lagers like Yuengling or Sam Adams. Lagers go great with anything, but I particularly prefer a good pepperoni pizza.

GO PHILLIES!

Honestly, I think there are very few players in baseball who would intentionally go out there and try to take someone out. I wouldn’t condone it myself, no matter how badly someone manages to hurt us.

Stanton was lighting us up and I’d never be happy to see him hurt.

I wasn’t happy to hear about Strasburg when he went down. Damn shame, that, for him and for the Nats.

You guys really think heyward is overrated ? I dont . I admit I dont see him everyday but when i look at the numbers and his body he sure looks like a great athlete to me. He has size , speed , fast hands and a good arm. I wouldnt mind it if he was a phillie.

Heyward is overrated? Huh? He just turned 21 years old, idiots! Check out his numbers, but of course you don’t need to let facts get in the way.

Man alive y’all are some angry and bitter folks.

If you watch Heyward’s at-bats, you’ll be surprised by how well he lays off bad pitches, especially for a rookie. His OBP is around .400 and he walks in over 10% of his plate appearances.

Andrew, ok. Brown is better. He’s the future because he’s a Philly…. I mean, because you say he’s just better.

    Check, check, check! Gotcha!

72 pitches for Cole thru 5.1 innigs

Heyward and Posey are both the real deal. If Dom has a rookie season like Heyward’s, we should be ecstatic. Dom has better power potential and a better arm, but Heyward probably has Dom on plate discipline.

When this team is hitting there is no let up in the lineup. I love hearing the national guys talk about it. Last nite Kruky was saying the Phils seem to toy with teams it was great. We know he’s one of us, so what it was still cool. Bobby V tried to interupt him and say “theyre not losing on purpose john “. Kruk goes on to talk about how heavy a favorite they are for the pennant , but you dont have to be a former Phillie to see that.

Me and Desribrave have seen this movie before. These Braves leave army’s out there on the base paths regularly, so we’ve learned how to suck it up and hope somebody gets their heads out of their butts. No sweat, just another day at the ball yard.

  • hi guys just stoping by….glad we are winning its close,WHERE IS THE CROWD NOISE????????be back later….

Desribrave, look, it doesn’t matter anyways. Honestly, we should win the wild card. Dang, we could go 7-5 the rest of the way then we go to the playoffs. These Philly fans are ALL OVER the Braves blogs talking smack and laughing. Let them get all this hot streak stuff out of thier systems just to hit a cold spell later. Now THAT would be funny.
