The Phillies – backed by consistently excellent pitching – are rolling. With Cole Hamels tossing another jewel last night, Phillies ace Roy Halladay seeks to continue this trend tonight against the Brewers.
Of course Doc’s 16-10 record does not do him justice. In the pitching Triple Crown race, he’s one strikeout behind the league leader, 0.02 points behind the ERA leader and one win off the top spot. All that could change tonight with another dominant performance. For the Brewers, the nastiness that is Roy Halladay represent uncharted waters – the current Brew Crew has only 15 combined at bats against Doc. That surely favors the Phillies pitcher.
Dave Bush meanwhile will throw for Milwaukee. You may remember him as a character from one of the tales of the legendary Matt Stairs. Last year in Philly, Stairs broke up Bush’s no-hitter in the eighth inning with a long bomb to right.
We may see the recently recalled Greg Dobbs tonight as he is hitting .429 in 14 at bats against Bush with 2 homers, and 5 RBIs. Ryan Howard has similar numbers, so there’s hope he can continue his September breakout on this crisp fall-like evening. He and the rest of the lineup will need to after the bats went silent last night following the shootout in Denver.
Tonight’s “Schedule Watch” takes us to Miami, where Jair Jurrjens (6-4, 4.38) will be pitching for the Braves against the Marlins’ ace Josh Johnson (11-5, 2.28).

Actually BravoMan. The fact that you guys have let the phils catch up after being up by 7 less than 4 weeks ago means you haven’t been doing it all that well

I’d say that makes up for one of Halladay’s hard-luck losses this year.

What’s amazing is that Doc’s C-game is still an adequate start.

Re: the giants
I would rather the giants make it then the surging rockies.
rockies are trouble.
SD lost again. 9 in a row
i feel sorry for them and thier fans. Possibly they arent gonna make it? They still have a nice lead though. Thats how good they were before we came to town.

I would have to agree I think Raul might get the day off against the lefty with Ben Fran starting, but I think he would be the only one, Maybe Polly rest his elbow a bit for the DH on monday, I would think you may see a rest for the day game on monday. Maybe even Dom Brown on game. any news on who is pitching on Monday

I’ve got a bad feeling the Brewers are going to feast on Kendrick tomorrow. Saving grace, maybe, is that Hart, Braun, Weeks are righties. But if they can touch up Doc, surely they can get to Kyle. Bullpen: get ready!

This is another great win for the Phils…we showed a little bit of everything today..we make a run came back a few times…Cant believe Roy gave up so many HR..i hope he isnt tiring out…we are going to have to go with a 3 man Rotation come playoff time…

Old man hasnt pitched on short rest much in the playoffs before and I certainly hope the trend continues unless backs are against the wall.

Doc made some bad pitches tonight up and hung the curve ball on that last HR. If kk can get his ball down, and off the plate this Brewcrew team will swing and miss and knob a lot of balls. They tend to get less patient against slow off speed stuff. I think the bats will be back in full force tomorrow and score some more runs for KK. Plus they played over their head defensivly tonight. There is a reason that this team has so few wins with this offense, no pen, no defense and questionable starting pitching. The phillies need to be patient and get the pitch count up so they have to go to the pen early, or just rock the guy off the mound early. 8-3 win, Just got into Doylestown tonight from Vermont and will be at the game tomorrow. Good win with Doc not having his best stuff. And Chooch is the man, Chase seems to have his swing back along with the big piece, Bring you brooms tomorrow, oh yea you can not bring them into the bank, so it is just a figure of speech, start the home stand out with a sweep, anounce your enterence with authority boys it is time to take over the lead in the NL East

Question: Would the Phils have won this game had Greg Dobbs actually come up to bat? … I’m thinking no.

I like Worley for the Start on that double header. He still needs a lot of work before he is MLB ready either him or Bastardo. With either one relieving the other one. I would also like to see Scott back up. With Romero, Contreras an most likely Durbin gone next year one of this guys are more likely is going to have be replacement player. I doubt the will get 3 relievers next year.

Michael Schwimer will also be up from LV next year, he would have gotten called up this year had it not been for an injury recently, he will be great out of the pen and made the transition from AA Reading closer to AAA Ironpigs set up man/ closer smoothly. Has a great slider and change up and his new cutter this year has been great as well. Droping his “get me over” slider has made him a potential high impact reliever next year. Reading closer Justin DeFratus will follow a similar route but only the following year, and I fully picture him or Mathesosn to be our closer of the future. That is if Scott can break his current AAAA staus, Bastardo has had isues with this as well, better than AAA but not quite MLB yet. Vance Worley will be pushing for 5th starter next year, many people are underestimating him. He just needs to cut down the baserunners a bit. Hoping he shows his worth on monday with the start in game 1. So gald it was given to him.

Bacardipr05- Vance had issues early in the season in AA Reading, but somewhere around the end of May it all started coming together, by the end of June Worley was dominant in AA and got his promo to LV and has done fairly well there, I’m by no means saying he’s ready this instant to be our 5th guy but I think he’s close and next year will be pushing for that role. I’m hoping he makes the most of his opportunity Monday.
