Two games for the price of one today! Gotta love the infrequent doubleheader. Today, fortunately, were given one on Labor Day. An excellent time to drink a good beer, cook on the BBQ, and listen to the sounds of Franzke and LA on the transistor. That’s all you need. End summer well, my friends. This is also a perfect time to grab a hold of the NL East. Two wins today could make that happen. Whaddya say, Phils?
Also, as a bit of a side note, let’s hope Vance Worley can put together a solid performance and make us forget about Kyle Kendrick’s struggles. HAPPY LABOR DAY PHILLIES NATION!

I understand that “Bravoman” would say “y’all” in conversation, but I dont quite understand why he would type it in post. Its not proper grammar and, IMO, somewhat “hickish”. BravoMan, perhaps Olney said that about the Braves before the Phils got Oswalt. If so, wouldn’t you agree that it wouldn’t be a stretch for Olney to change his mind?
Blanton is having a bad year. But he has pedigree and can turn on a dime. The thought of him having to pitch a game doesn’t terrify me, especially if the Braves are throwing Lowe. Oswalt and Halladay have better records on three days rest. Cole, well, as we all know, in the past he’s needed his beauty sleep.
I will not profess to being unafraid of the Braves because I am. I like our squad better today but if we lost to them in the playoffs, it wouldn’t shock me. They’re a good team. We do have a tremendous home field advantage though. Its Bulldog football season down there so I doubt anyone will be paying attention the the Braves.

Give ‘em hell, Vance! (Vance?)
Hey, Dipsy, I agree with you on the Braves. I think they’ve proven beyond a shadow of a doubt (despite a soft inter-league schedule) that they are a good team this year. Aside from the fact that I’m not fond of Braves fans in general (though some have been cool), it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if they beat us in a good battle.
This team’s already done something special this year in my book. We’ve seen great teams fold under too many bad injuries and too much time on the DL before. We’re still in this thing and we can beat the Braves just like they can beat us.
What’s going to happen is going to happen.

Dipsy,
I called him on that a couple of weeks ago, and naturally got no response. No one from the southern states writes with a ‘drawl. No one from Boston writes that they “pahk the cah” either. I don’t know if his team is for real, but he’s definitely a fraud.

I have no doubt the Phillies will accumulate no more than 5 hits today. We struggle against pure garbage.

Is Schneider under contract for next year? Christ, I hope not. The guy is absolutely dreadful both at the plate and behind it.

By Cy Mendez here.
The Braves are a 0 threat in the playoffs. reds Padres or Giants dismantle them round 1 if they make it.
Miracels do cease.
If the braves win the NL east ill fall over. If they beat the Phillies in the playoffs id kiel over from a stroke accompanied by a heart attack.
NO SHOT. Understand the sport.

I really don’t understand what’s so much better about Schneider as opposed to Paul Bako. And what was the reason for Bakop replacing Chris Coste?
Basically, these back-up catchers are back-ups for a reason.

Schniedr is OK has had a couple of big homers.
Its hard to hit when you dont play alot. Defensively I dont care much for him and catcher is 100% defensive catcher. But its tough to get a first rate defensive catcher as a back up.

I usually don’t participate in game day threads. Since I’m here, a question for y’all: Does the fact that one rearranges their lives so they can see each and every Phillies game make that person a somewhat weird? A degenerate with no life? Because, speaking frankly, sometimes my level of devotion makes me a little self conscious and strange. If you reply, please be honest with your opinion. Much thanks.

If the Giants and Rockies make it with the reds then 3 good teams make it. That would suck. Cardinals are a good team too.
But its moot if the Phillies cant hit this guy today.

Being behind the plate is about working with the pitcher and calling a game he can execute and catch the ball in a way that makes the ump feel good about calling a strike. Hitting, throwing out runners etc is secondary.

Phillies offense looking inept as usual. No way Phils score anything today. Mark my words. Marlins 5 Phillies 1. Phillies with 4 hits.

When it gets to be this time of year. I have had a chance to go out to a bar and or go play poker the last few friday or saturday nights.
And frankly I would rather watch the phils and post my thoughts here.
But come oct 5th or whenever the world series ends. I am back out to whatever. Also in june july april may i would choose to go play poker and win money. But in sept? No chance it doesnt get any better than right here right now (Marv Levy).

NJ is right but throwing out runners is important . If you have a Piazza it can ruin a team.
Its about handling the game. Ruiz is so good at it we are spoiled. Schneider not so much. Glad we get Ruiz tongiht.
I would think we are going to hit this guy. Almost have to. Law of averages.

BTW I have made alot of money betting horses and playing poker. so I do come at it froma gamblers mentality. Thats why my predictions are good. I understand things. Braves are no more likely to make playoffs than SD SF or Col. Id bet SD and SF to make it over atl. Col and Atl are a toss up.

No clue if a know Jeff. Fairly generic question given the lack of information. Wow, Raul Ibanez needs out of this lineup and in the field immediately. Play Ben.

It baffles me how the Fish can come out hustling on the road for a 28 year old rookie career minor leaguer and the Phils look flat for their kid.

@NJ
the phils struggle against skell pitchers.
I can accept it some. But it is unacceptable today. I will have a fit if they get 5 hits on this guy and the poor marlins pen.
Its not acceptable sept 6th

Andrew, my only disagreement with your “good” teams is the Reds. They can hit and have Votto, but I still don’t think they are that good. They have a losing record against all first and second place teams this year. They beat the weak teams, which is good, but won’t likely carry them very far in postseason. I think the Braves can beat them.
