Hell of a win last night boys, now make me look good!
The Phillies got some much needed offense in the 8-4 victory, but they’ll no doubt have a tough time matching that performance against tough lefty Clayton Kershaw. There is good news – Kershaw is 0-4 with a 6.31 ERA in six starts/nine appearances (regular and post-season combined) against the Phillies in his career. They know something about this hard throwing lefty, so let’s hope last night carries over.
Your Gameday Beer – UFO Hefeweizen
As the dogs days of summer continue to hover upon us, we’re going with smooth wheat beer for today’s afternoon game. It comes from Harpoon Brewery out of Boston and this is their Un-Filtered Offering. The sweet wheat malts help give the beer a light body and a similarly light citrus and yeast taste. It’s by far not the best Hefeweizen in the world, but it’s great for a steamy afternoon. With summer beer comes summer food, so have some chicken kabobs with it. – By Brian

Yeah, can’t depend on the Mets.
Can I ask what kind of low-attention-span namby-pambies bring a BEACH BALL with them to a baseball game?

News from the farm:
Congratz the phillies 1st baseman (ironpigs) Matt Rizzotti on his selection by the Phillies to the prestigous Arizona Fall League Mesa Solar Sox, each team can only send 6 8 players to the total of 6 teams in the league. This will give Matt a tryout for the 40 man roster next year. Also prop’s to Reading closer Justin DeFratus, the youngster was also selected.
In other news Reading IF Tagg Bozied has had a monster season and has all but got the Eastern League batting title locked up, going 4-5 last night with a homer puched his avg up to near .320. He continues to duke it out with Reading veteran CF Michael Spidale for the highest avg in the league.
Also his homerun last night was his 24th of the season, impressive considering he missed 31 games this year.

Have to be consistant. I wish rollins and shane would hit less homers and take more walks.
but against a lefty its probably more acceptable for them to power up a little more.
but its 2-0 phils thats all that matters

Why did Charlie start Ibanez against a guy who holds lefties to a .186 average? He could use a day off and Fransisco could use the AB’s. Charlie continues to blow my mind.

Oswalt is quickly becoming one of my favorites. He really bears down. I really like the addition of Sweeney as well.

Biz,
The platooning with Fransisco and Ibanez was working awesome in conjunction with Gload/Sweeny. Why they don’t give Ben Fran more Abs against lefties is bothersome. I guess Charlie probably wants a RH bat to have against their lefty closer.

Oswalt was bound to improve
The phillies are opposite of the Mets. Because of our clubhouse and Manager players get better and happier when they come to philadelphia. When a player goes to the mets and thier culture of losing and laziness they get worse.

They may be striking out a lot today… but they know what they’re doing… letting Kershaw throw a lot of pitches and get him out in an inning or so (he’s thrown 83 through only 4 innings!).

andrew , your bubbly optimism (which i admire) doesn’t make biz’s point wrong. I will always love charlie cause of what we accomplished with him at the helm . However i belong to the school of thought that players
win games and managers tend to be over rated. There are many examples across sports. ( barry switzer won a superbowl ).
This era of phillies baseball saw some of the best homegrown players in franchise history come of age , along with the financial where with all that was previously absent with this organization. That being said i think you could make a long list of managers that would have that 08 ring.

I still think they win despite Charlie, not because of him.
