The Phillies 2010 season began in Washington, DC with Roy Halladay squaring off against John Lannan. It could for all intents and purposes come to a close tonight under the same scenario. A Phillies win or a Braves loss will clinch the fourth consecutive division title for the Phillies.
Rain is expected tonight, so there is a chance the game will be postponed or even canceled. For the latest on how the weather will affect tonight’s game, follow Twitter:
After a brief appearance in yesterday’s game, Jimmy Rollins will not be starting.
Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Halladay P

I was so happy when my wife said Howard was a overrated waste of space. Yes again the man will hit you 30 homers. The power is slowly declining. He strikes out way to much. I would never trust him in a big spot. No way. Just throw him junk. For that kind of money he should have 45 homers and 150 rbis. Strike out way less. What a waste of money for the big nose.

I love Ryan Howard when he is going well but when was the last time he got a big hit for the Phillies? He just cannot hit soft-tossing LHP. We need Jayson Werth in the worst way. At this point I would allow him to name his price. He is the lynch pin the of the entire lineup…..AND RUIZ CRACKS A DOUBLE!!!

Apparently Ryan has at least 106 big hits this year. Third most RBI in September in NL. What games are you people watching????

I cannot believe that the Phils are on their way to clinching their 4th consecutive division title and you goofballs are arguing about Ryan Howard!

@adam — thank god our lineup is so deep ,thats what seperates the phils from the giants , padres and the rest of the NL playoff teams. Even when Chase and Ryan are goin bad we can still score. I really think when the lights are brightest we’ll be fine. This is the DOC were gonna see come playoff time i have no doubt. Cole and Roy 2 will also have the adrenelin flowin , who we playing in the series ?
I’m not being over confident just wanna know who you guys/girls thinks goin from the AL ?

Leave it to Jeff to post nothing but negativity while the Phillies are clinching the division and Doc is straight dealing. Hey jeff, if it wasnt for the injury, Ryno would have finished with 40HR and 130RBI’s, again. Like he has every year.
Every night it’s like qa broken record with you. I could understand if your complaint was with the pen, but this garbage with you every single night is too much. The man is the biggest producer in MLB the last 5 years. You would think you wrote the checks or that there was a salary cap in baseball.
Kill yourself, you miserable prig. I feel sorry for your wife.

Hey Phillyboy I am not miserable. Go look at Howard’s numbers in big situations this year. I was merely using that fact to boost my Jayson Werth assertion. Get a clue.
As to Mostone, it really is an amazing time in Phillies history. Every time they get this close I think about the days I went to the Vet as a kid with my dad and watched those horrendous teams play. I loved, my like many of your I am sure, every second of it. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think the Phils would have a run like this. There are so many moments this year and in the past few years that just give you goosebumps thinking about them.
I think it is safe to say our grandchildren will be asking use questions like “Tell me about Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins” Where to begin on a question like that. How could you sum up Chase Utley? Would you start by saying his first hit was a GS? Or that he played the game the right way? Or that he hit 5 home runs in one WS? We are watching Phillies legends.
Contrary to waht Jay-aka-Phillyboy wants all of you to believe, I am enjoying this immensely.

Everyone chill on Jeff, everyone has their own opinion why let it bother you. Howard does lead in RBI though Jeff, when he does hit it’s game over and you know he’ll get his.
4th straight NL East champs, Halladay is pitching a gem.
Perfect Game
Cy Young
NL East Champions
NLCS MVP
WS MVP
Could be Halladays, if the price is right..

Extra day’s rest, and the Doc is back to top form. Best start in some time. The man who dominated on opening day, kept the team in it throughout the Slump, is now going to clinch it. Poetic.

Yes i realize he leads in RBI but how many came in the 7th inning or later in a close game? I don’t know the answer but all I am saying is that this, for Howard’s standards, has been a disappointing year. Simple as that. (as he turns over on a fastball)
But I do love this team and enjoy Howard when he is hitting well.

Halladay means business. Has faced 21 batters through seven innings. One hitter. No walks. Retired 14 straight.

So.
Is Doc on the mound when all h*ll breaks loose and the City of Philadelphia (and Citizens Bank South) starts celebrating?
And there’d better be celebrations up here. After what they’ve done in August and September this year?

What is so hard to understand about a guy that avg’s 40 hr and 130 rbi’s a season ? Dont you know your baseball history ? I advise you look it up and check out the company mr howard’s name is listed next to.——Then add a rookie of the year , an mvp award , well ; you should know the rest.

BostonKate, thank you, the exam went well; I’m just sort of jealous that my family went but I couldn’t. Sigh. They get to see Halladay; I get to take an exam.
I was an idiot for taking 18 credits. Graduating on time. What was I thinking?

@jay…it’s been a great regular season. now we can all sit around in here and screw around during the playoffs. I won’t mention the WS out of fear of jinxing it.
@Mike D…your family is there? Damn, if that doesn’t add insult to injury. Responsibility and graduating on time is overrated.
