The Phillies 2010 season began in Washington, DC with Roy Halladay squaring off against John Lannan. It could for all intents and purposes come to a close tonight under the same scenario. A Phillies win or a Braves loss will clinch the fourth consecutive division title for the Phillies.
Rain is expected tonight, so there is a chance the game will be postponed or even canceled. For the latest on how the weather will affect tonight’s game, follow Twitter:
After a brief appearance in yesterday’s game, Jimmy Rollins will not be starting.
Today’s lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Halladay P
Your Gameday Beer – Nugget Nectar
This brew by Troegs (out of the PA capital) is a mix of Red and Amber Ale; and as a result, it pours a vibrant orange color in your glass. The taste hits you right away with piney hops then gradually fades into tropical fruit flavors. It’s a tasty beer worth trying, especially alongside a roasted chicken. – By Brian

Halladay, Sweeney and Schneider – who never made playoffs – pop first champagne bottles.

I grew up watching the Big Red Machine in Cincinnati in the 70s. I honestly never expected to have an experience like that again as a fan. Enjoy this. Appreciate this. Savor this.
GO PHILS!!!

Yeah, how bout that record since late July, Lefty!! I remember saying around Aug 1 that 95 wins would probably win us the division…and a few people on here said that would almost be impossible.

On the radio Mike Sweeney said that his teammates let Doc, Schneider, and him open the first bottles of champagne since they have not gotten to do it before. That is real class by a classy team.

I would prefer to think October is the best month of the year. I must say though Chuck, I believe it is fitting that the Phillies won the division at the Ballpark were Harry Kalas passed away.

Never thought of that, Brian. I was thinking more of how Halladay ended it where he began it. How’s Brian Jr.?

Ray Knight and Bob Carpenter, the Nats broadcasters, were really gracious in their praise of both Halladay and the Phils tonight. Carpenter noted, rightly, that the Phils spent good money to get talent like the Doc, but that the nucleus of the team is homegrown.

I heard that Scott. It was refreshing, considering their bashing of CBP as a bandbox last week. I keep wondering why that’s an adavantage for us, both teams bat in the same ballpark during a game right?

Great to see Halladay back with his “A” game. This sets our rotation from here on out, when it matters: Roy1, Cole, Roy2. For the rest of the NL, and the AL winner: goof luck with that.
DesiBrave – thanks for dropping by and the tip of the proverbial hat.

Mike Sweeney was attacked from behind by Brad Lidge, who sprayed him with champagne. “It really does burn!” he yelled

Mike D, Brian Jr is doing well, thanks for asking. He is growing up SO FAST. He is hoping for a an AWESOME birthday present this year of another NL and WS Pennant! As am I of course! LOL.
On a side note, I have NEVER seen another site on the Internet where people who have never met in person can remember things about anbother person who posts there, and actually cares enough to ask about their family or kids. Thats pretty awesome, Thanks Mike D!
Glad to see Desibrave is a classy fan!

Halladay said he planned to do his normal 45-min postgame workout. “I bet he’ll be the first guy in the clubhouse tomorrow,” Dubee said.

Of course, Brian, glad to hear all is well. I remembered when you announced his birth it was during a comeback last October and I remember thinking “wow what a day it was for him.” Can’t remember which series. Anyway, hope to actually have time to comment during the playoffs. Eighteen credits. Madness.
Of course, if they win without me commenting, I might not comment. I don’t want to upset these things.
