2010 Game Recaps, Posts

Randy Wolf shut down the Phillies over 6 2/3 innings in the Brewers 6-2 win. Kyle Kendrick has not looked good in his last few starts. Today he allowed five runs in four innings, dropping his record to 9-8. The Phillies runs came in the second inning, as Carlos Ruiz brought home two runs with a double. For Milwaukee, Prince Fielder’s first inning homer was the difference.
Have a great holiday weekend and enjoy the doubleheader tomorrow against the Marlins!

Biz sorry I missed you up there, I have been in Doylestown for the game yestarday, and party at my mom’s today, driving back tonight. When ever you are up in Burlington, you need to stop by T-Bones Restaurant in Colchester. I manage the restaurant. Sit Vic in the first with Wreth in Center, and Dom in right, then Vic in center wreth in left dom in right for the night cap

There is no reliable voice in baseball. The writers are all like umpires these days, voicing dubious opinions and making bad judgments in an effort to feel important.

Jayson Stark might be an exception.

I don’t know if we can be objective on Stark as he is to us what Keith Law is to the Mets.

You’re right, Chuck. Jayson Stark might be an exception.
That, according to the old proverb, would prove the rule.

Shag, Definitely will do. I’ve been to 28 states now, and Vermont was the most beautiful, IMO. It edged out Montana and AZ. Some pretty stiff competition.

That Philly pen will be its demise. You watch and see. Plus the fact y’all’s offense has been just as hot and cold as Atlanta’s, even moreso than ours this year. I also wouldn’t be so confident in Halladay. How many meanigful games has he even pitched in his career with the always out of contention Jays? He also appears to look a bit worn down. Oswalt gets beat like a school yard geek when he faces Atlanta. Seems it’s always been like that. He can’t get to us.

BravoMan,
We keep hearing that about our pen, but Lidge has allowed 1 run since July and Madson has an ERA less than 1 in that same time frame. Contreras has been a rock all season long. In a short series Baez and Herndon, clearly our weak links, won’t get a sniff. Bottom line, our top 3 starters are studs and 4 guys in our pen are very solid. The post season is a different animal than the regular season. You should know that after 14 straight appearances. The Phillies are built for the post season.

I’ll take Roy Halladay in a “meaningful game” over any Braves starter any day of the week.

Jay, I like it when Charlie mixes up the lineups a little. We have gotten some big production out of our bench this year and I feel like our offense has been a crapshoot anyway, a little variety can’t hurt.

I’m so pumped about the relievers in our system, over the past 2 years I’ve seen them in Reading and I can tell you guys like Michael Schwimer, Justin DeFratus and Michael Stutes are very much legit.
On the starter front besides Worley, whome I expect to be the 5th starter next year (or maybe the rest of this year depending how today goes) there isn’t much at the upper levels (Reading or Lehigh) save for Austin Hyatt but his sample size in Reading is small since prmomoted from Clearwater- Note he was just named the Single A pitcher of year. At the lower levels there are some studs, but until any prospect does well in Reading I don’t get excited.
As for Sanchez the K ratio is incredible but from what I’ve seen his fastball is too slow.

Jay, I agree. Vic can’t hit as a lefty, it wouldn’t kill Charlie to give him a seat. Maybe against Sanchez?

Someone had asked about LV manager’s Dave Huppert’s comments. Yes he did say it, in a press conference no less, he was talking about how happy he was to get young guys from Reading, Stutes, Scwhimer and Brown and then started bitching about the veterans on his team that they were “whores for hire” and were only interested in getting higher stats and not doing what it takes to win (ie bunting a guy over etc).
Huppert also made some dumb comment about the Phillies orginization just before Brown was called up. In a press conference he said things about the Phillies not wanting to start Brown’s clock etc and also refused to answer if Brown was ready for the big leagues. This was only a day or 2 before Brown did get promoted.
To me these are things you just don’t talk about and that along with his horrible losing record with Lehigh the past 3 years led to his dismisal.
