2010 Game Recaps, Posts

Cole Hamels pitched seven shutout innings in the Phillies 1-0 victory over Milwaukee. The lone run came on a Carlos Ruiz ground out in the second inning, which scored Shane Victorino. For Phillies pitchers, it was the 17th shutout of the season.

Atlanta lost 6-1 to Florida tonight, meaning the Phillies are now just one back in the NL East.

hahaha fair enough, Lefty. Personally, to answer my own quesiton, I’d pick Cole. He’s only 26! I just wanted to know what everyone else thinks.

With our records the way they are, even if we overtake the lead in the East, we’re still probably playing Braves in the NLDS because they’ll take the wild card right?

Now we’ve played the wild card the last three years but i didn’t know again if that was records or if that was just what the East did while the West played the Central.

    Someone clarify?

Roy will be pretty good at 37.
But yea Cole is now a stud and he is home grown. I have no problem if the Phillies give him a contract similar to what they gave Roy. I actually want that. And I am a guy who thinks Howards contract is 20% too high and wants Werth to walk at anything over 12 million a year.

I am thinking the phils have more money to play with then we are led to believe. Them getting Oswalt meaning 2 years in a row the Phillies got the #1 FA at the trading deadline and the howard contract. Make me believe thats possible. keep selling the place out guys. The fans make all this possible.

Andrew I think I’d pitch Cole second. R-L-R for one reason, even though our fourth starter will be an R anyway. But if your question is- if Doc is not available, which of the two would I pitch in my LAST game of a series winner take all or go home?, I give it to my former WS MVP- Cole.

    Man, McCarver is a joke!
“The theory being when you get too many guys on that can lead to a big inning” No Chit!

the way cole has pitched this year I agree. He is the #2. Does any team have a third starter the quality of Oswalt? This is on historic proportions. If this team is hitting. Meaning at least 8 hits and 4 or more runs a game they are the team to beat in baseball.
Hamels even looks nasty this year where as last year he looked like a guy who should be on a beach in southern cal. Glad I am not the GM or coach because I had enough of him last year and would have sent him packing.

Mccarver s on a Chris Berman level. Incomprehensibly bad. Like its intentional bad.
Me I am watching Notre Dame vs Perdue. I want ND to win out till they play the Midshipmen. then Navy can lay down the smack. Ricky Dobbs for the Heisman. Heard it here first.

I would go R-L-R also, unless the team I am pitching against hit lefties a lot better than righties. By then its too late to shuffle any way. We are going with a three man rotation in the post season aren’t we? Please tell me we are.

Cole was not hitting that 94-95 last night. He actually threw two curves in a row to their catcher. He’s really starting to bust righties inside now. That’s usually the last hurdle for really good lefties to clear. He looks great. No doubt about it. Perhaps trying to get his pitch counts down will be next.

Historically there have been a few really good pitching staffs, but no one can match this one right now.

Off the top of my head- The 86 Muts had three of four really good ones, 71 Orioles had 4 twenty game winners, and the 68 cardinals had a third guy who wasn’t too bad named Carlton.

    Keegan,

I want pitchers in the post season if possible to go on regular rest. If that means Blanton starts a game 4 so be it.
now if you are facing elimination then then you do what you have to.
I think the Yanks got pretty lucky last year using the 3. they faced a very mediocre and still out of baseball Pedro Martinez 2 times. That wont be happening this year. If we just had this Cole last year I think we win that series.
The old man has shown in the past that he likes to try to keep the pitchers on reg rest in the post season and I really think its the right way to go. ou can go back and look historicly at pitchers going on short rest. The stats dont lie. Now an elimination game is something different. and obviously any game 7 is by definition an elimination game.

    Manny…tough question, dude.

But…..I guess if I had to choose….I’d probably take Hamels.

    Damn, that’s a hard one.

    JAY…wait a second….

not too long ago you could go through any thread on this site and find LOTS of people that were ready to jump off the bandwagon.

    And…it will happen again.

It’s just that classic “What have you done for me lately?” syndrome.

    Drives me nuts.

Well, I think they go with a three man rotation. You get a day off for travel days so I don’t think it’ll be that big a deal. As it stands now, I just don’t wanna roll Blanton out there unless I absolutely have to.

Ok, y’all are throwing all this at me, but why are we in 1st place then? Why have we been since May? You guys are the ones that will come up with a half dozen excuses.

Lefty, Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz easily tops a Halladay/Hamels/Oswalt. I love how a Phillie fan conveniently leaves off the best trio in the history of the game because they were Braves.

You know nothing fat, Phillie boy. I know you have to be fat because Philly is full of overweight thugs who don’t wash their butts.

Stink butt Phillie fans. Never seen so many fugly people congregate in one place like they do at CBP in all my life. I loathe that rotten stink hole of a stadium. The Reds stadium might be a tad worse, but not by much.

Last I checked, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz aren’t part of the 2010 Braves.

When it comes to pitching rotation in the playoffs. I actually trust the old man. Hes done well the last few years at when to pitch who.

Try to not respond to the feeble minded trolls. It encourages them.

Are the Cardinals just done? I cant believe a team with Pujos and a great defensive catcher and those pitchers is gonna be so bad they arent even a factor? Everyone keeps waiting for thm come around and they jsut arent. Larussa over rated? I think maybe. I know Pinella was. although I loved Lou. I dont love Larussa and his mullet.

bravo man, stink butt phillies fans? hahah

your team doesnt have one player who has seen the postseason, aside from overpaid derek lowe and lee.

no one shows up to your games…

we’ll see you in october, I’m almost positive your rotation won’t be maddux, smoltz, and the other guy. you know it’s 2010? not the 90′s…

and after the worst season of injuries ever, even worse then the mets last year, were still right on your tail. howard, utley, polanco, jimmy, shane, blanton, lidge, madson, our entire team is back now! thats the only reason you were in first place at 6:40 saturday night, and won’t be able to say that again until you get another maddux, smoltz, other guy.

get over the opening day heyward homerun, september is a little more important

Ok so this one is back at the dumbest MORON on the board (aka Bravoman). “Ok, y’all are throwing all this at me, but why are we in 1st place then? Why have we been since May?” Hmm, can we say DL? The Braves have who on the DL, the Old Fart Chipper Jones? The Phillies have had Howard, Polanco, Utley, Rollins, Ruiz, Scheider, Blanton, Happ (before the trade), Madson, Victorino and Lidge. Did I miss anyone? So EVERY position player except 2 have been on the DL this season, 1 of those sat out for several games with an injury, 4 pitchers have been on the DL? Hmm, so congratulations for being in first place (BARELY) against the Phillies bench/Minor league team. Wow I would be so proud if I were a Braves fan that I would throw it in someones face that the team can BARELY stay in first place, against the bench/minors of a division opponent, and now with 1 game lead, the only thing helping the Braves is an UNBELIEVEABLY EASY schedule (excluding the Phillies).

jeff and Check, you really must avoid FACTS, Bravoman doesnt like them. It is rather funny though, he goes fromhow the Braves “starting pitching is slightly better” to “Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz easily tops a Halladay/Hamels/Oswalt. I love how a Phillie fan conveniently leaves off the best trio in the history of the game because they were Braves.” LOL. So I guess when he realized the Phillies Starting Pitching was bolstered with Oswalt, and Hamels is pitching like 08 Hamels again, and Halladay is pitching like…HALLADAY, he needs to go back to the ’90. LOL. Pick a decade and argue moron. Arguing with him is like arguing with my 2 year old Daughter.

“One other question…Bravoman? LOL. Real masculine name. LOL. I seem to recall my wife turning on a bunch of chick flics on “Bravo” on TV everytime I leave the room. So you pick the same name as a gay TV channel? LOL. I will tell you when I am surprised.
