I am not a Phillies fan, but am a baseball fan. What Roy Halladay did was great for baseball (period.). He started off the playoffs on the right foot. This is the most I have been into the playoffs in a long time.
Also, the play by Ruiz on the last out was incredible. I hope he gets some credit for making a difficult play. He is an unsung hero on a stacked team. Gotta love players like him.

Incredible, amazing, awesome. So this is what “starving” means. This man has not been what he was advertised instead he is actually better. I was visiting my mom in the hospital when the ninth inning came around. Thank goodness she has a private room or else we might have been thrown out!

This is what happens when you put one of the best catchers EVER with one of the best pitchers EVER.
I mean I was literaly counting the outs in the 2nd inning.
He was flat unhittable.
I guess the extra rest didnt matter.
Not bad for a first career playoff start.
Is that a statement game? Got to demoralize the Reds.
But its only 1 win. need 10 more.
If the phillies win another WS. and I think they will. Ruiz honestly is a hall of fame catcher. But I know people dont understand this and think Piazza is and Ruiz will never be. But i am telling you Doc wants to give him this no hitter.

That was the best performance Ive ever seen in sports.
Going back to the last start vs the Nats which I was lucky enough to attend and be up close for. That could have been a no no too.
This guy is unhittable. Best ever. period

Andrew did you hear or see Doc’s presser? He gave Chooch almost all of the credit.
I was thinking it was the best individual performance I’d ever seen in baseball, but you are right it’s the best in any sport, because it happened on such a big stage.
And don’t forget my boy “Big Game Shane” who comes through again.
Chooch was amazing all game, but the last throw from his knees was incredible.

Yankees losing already. they arent gonna be there this year been saying that a long time. It may be the twins or even the rangers.
This is huge but its 10 more wins or it makes it a waste.
Shane is ALWAYS clutch. thats why he is one of my favorites.
Missed the presser. Hoping MLB network replays at some point.

Today they posted on AOL/”Fanhouse” a playoff and WS poll of 12 sportswriters – I’ll name them, just for the fun of it: Ed Price, Jeff Fletcher, Frankie Piliere, John Hickey, Andrew Johnson, Marc Lancaster, Knox Bardeen, Tom Fornelli, Tom Krasovic, Josh Alper, Steve Phillips, Pat Lackey. (Preview: here’s a sample of how the sportwriter community have come to respect/fear the Phillies.) Here are their predictions:
ALDS Rays vs. Rangers: Rays picked by 8 of the 12 writers.
ALDS Twins vs. Yankees: Yankees by 7 to 5.
NLDS Giants vs. Braves: Giants picked, 11 to 1.
NLDS PHILLIES vs. Reds: PHILLIES picked, 12-0.
ALCS: Rays picked by 3; Twins picked by 3; Rangers picked by 1; Yankees picked by 5.
NLCS: Giants picked by 1 (John Hickey); PHILLIES picked by 11.
World Series (interesting that among the 12 writers, only 2 teams were predicted as making it to the WS):
Twins picked by 1 (John Hickey – WHAT IS HIS PROBLEM?); PHILLIES picked by 11.
All of these predictions were made, of course, BEFORE Halladay pitched his gem.
As a Phillies fan, I relate all the way back to the Whiz Kids. Looking back over 60 years of hanging in there, all I can say is how far we have come … how high we have climbed. These are good times indeed.

I’ve cried at baseball a handful of times.
I cried when we lost the WS in 1993.
I cried when we finally got back to the postseason in 2007.
I cried when we won it all in 2008.
Oddly, I didn’t cry when we lost in 2009. I just felt so bad for the players.
I cried when we clinched the 2009 NL East division.
I cried tonight.
I was saying something back in July about what a great fairy tale ending this team could have. We’re seeing it. We’re LIVING it.

Just when you thought this Phillies team has given us, as fans, everything we could have ever asked for…this happens. What is funny is that you could feel something special was happening in the second or third inning. This guy is simply outstanding. At one point I actually felt bad for Reds fans that this is the first postseason game they have seen the Reds play in in 15 years and you run into Roy Halladay. He is the ace of all aces.
I almost feel spoiled by watching this team. It is the most wonderful thing to watch a team as skilled as they are.
Its funny, Lee threw a gem today and I told a friend of mine, this is where the rubber meets the road. I was so hoping Halladay would at least pitch as well as Lee today…well I think we can safely say he pitched better.
Thanks Ruben. This guy is just fun to watch.

I have a problem with Halladay getting the Ashburn. i voted for Ruiz.
The picture at the top of this topic is gonna be my PC background for awhile.
God bless cliff Lee and Hamels and Oswalt. all are #1s and SUPER pitchers.
They arent in this guys class. He is in his own. He is in the Walter Johnson, Sandy Koufax class. Its no knock on the other guys he is just maybe the best ever.
I had to laugh when some mentioned here Hamels or oswalt starting a game 1. I do appreciate the fans.
This guy is an ace of aces. Michael jordan is Basketball jim Brown was football equivilent.
Look up walter Johnson and Sandy Koufax if your a casual fan. This guy is in that class. NO ONE else in the majors is now. Except maybe Lincecum will be but that wll take another 5 years of dominance.

If Ruben hadn’t had the stones, or the thick skin required, to trade Cliff Lee, we may not have been able to get Halladay.
Cliff Lee will always be beloved in this town.

Just got home from work, watched most of the game while I was working, going to watch it on DVR when I go to bed.
I think the extra days off, and the fact that he never pitched in a post season may be a problem for him, I am worried about the game.( I guess it is hard to write sarcasim)
Just on great performace by the Doc, Just amazing, one hit one RBI, one run scored and no hits given up just plain WOW. I am still getting tingles thinking about a no hitter in the post season. there is really no words to describe it. I even waited till it was all over before anouncing to the bar he just threw a no hitter. Not a sports bar, so most people really not paying full attention. But I would not discuss the fact he had not hits until it was all done. Again just WOW.
Now it is time for Roy two to continue the domination.

Was just watching the local news. They showed the old man saying it was all managing as a joke.
I guess thats where I get emotional in defending things. Do not underestimate the old man all this.
Just because you are the jockey for secretariet doesnt diminsh the accomplishments. I love the old man.
