Wow Andrew… the first thing you do is complain that Ryan Howard got a second place vote and throw in a comment about his contract. It must be a sad existence alone under that rock…

Votto deserved the award – Tulo probably took votes away from CarGo (and vice versa); those two were a two headed monster like baseball has never seen before down the stretch. For what it’s worth, Halladay finished tied second in WAR overall (tied with Jimenez) behind only Albert Pujols. Votto finished 5th in WAR overall.

Certainly better than low lifes like Adam Dunn and Adrain Gonzalez who make half what he does.

He should have been MVP of the league and the playoffs

I think we are the only team with 4 guys on this list. We could have had more because we have more players that are capable of getting MVP votes- Utley, Rollins, Lidge.

Well, Andrew sounds like he’s about 13. Sounds like a hypocrite, too. “I don’t get people who defend athletes…”, turn that around, and look in the mirror. You sound like a baby and nobody really cares or is defending Ryan Howard. Either way, he’s a fantastic player, and will continue to be one for many years to come. Quit your whining.

On topic, I’m very happy that Ruiz, Halladay, Werth, and Howard all made the list. Each deserved it. It’s been a while since a pitcher won the MVP, but I’d definitely agree with the consideration each got. Ruiz was an expert with the staff, Werth was durable and steady in RF (despite his avg with RISP), Howard still put up great numbers, despite missing about a month, and Halladay was what we expected him to be, and more. All-in-all, it was a great year for the Phillies Players. Disappointing end, but remarkable year.

I do not have any problem with those that say Howard is a fantastic player and put up great numbers this past season but no doubt what sours many posters and fans was his unproductive post-season so far as RBIs go (great playoff BA but did not knock any runs in) his shaky play in the field at first and all of his striking out during this past season. His big money extended contract adds to it.

Don’t blame the man for taking the offer. If you have such a problem, blame the front office that gave it to him.

Let me clarify my position on Howard as I am not a hater – I have gone to the games since he came into the league – I have watched as he addressed problem after problem with his defense (still working) and his offense (getting his average back up). I think if he did not sign with the Phils for that kind of money he would be somewhere else with that same money (if not more) – its just the market now. I love Ryan Howard, man I hope he does not let this past season or that last at bat stay with him… Perhaps he needs a dose of that same ‘manly potion’ that Cole used last year? Perhaps he needs to put the baby fat back on?

I hope (here we go again) the best is yet to come with Ryno and Chase – if so, we have more good times ahead of us.

If he hooks back into his power supply Chuck, I can forsee at least 1 more MVP award coming his/our way. But that too depends on the battery around him – Chase, Jroll, Vic, Poly – if they get on base he should be the one knocking them in!

I just think that people need to back off and not worry so much about contracts… be a fan and until he actually gives us reason to think he won’t be productive (a larger sample than one month when he was injured), let’s be supportive. I’m not saying that you can’t be critical; everyone is entitled to their own opinion but in case you haven’t noticed, Ryan Howard has contributed a lot over the course of his short career… he’s given us a lot to cheer about and has done everything the right way. I’m sorry but Ryan Howard deserves more credit than guys like Andrew are willing to give him. You would think that the wheels were falling off listening to Andrew – we won more games during the regular season this year than any other team in baseball and Howard was one of the most productive players on our team this season. Why did he earn MVP votes? Because we were the best team in the NL over the course of the regular season and statistically he was one of the best players on our team.
