Everybody picked the Phillies to win the NL East , including myself. I do not know if that is a good sign. The Baseball Gods like to mix things up sometimes.

And almost all of us picked Red Sox/Phils WS. Now it DEFINITELY won’t happen. Thankfully Mike picked the Twins.

Lots of guys picking the Sox over Phils in a WS matchup… Once Utley is back though, the whole story will change. I think the NL East will be too competitive to have a WC team from our division again, so… here it goes:
NLE: Phillies
NLC: Reds
NLW: Dodgers
WC: Brewers
ALE: Red Sox
ALC: White Sox
ALW: Rangers
WC: Yankees
–
NL Playoffs:
Phillies over Reds
Dodgers over Brewers
Phillies over Dodgers
AL Playoffs:
Red Sox over Rangers
Yankees over White Sox
Red Sox over Yankees
WS:
Phillies over Red Sox

Lots of guys not picking the Phils to even play the Red Sox, that’s a good thing I think. Fire our guys up national media. Make Doc Halladay angry, yep that’s a good thing.

I read somewhere that 45 of 45 “Experts” picked the RedSox to win the AL EAST …. good thing at least one of them went out on a limb
When I look at the RedSox, I see that Lester is amazing . . . Bucholz (who i used to be huge on) isn’t as good as I once thought . . . Beckett can’t stay healthy.. and Lackey – who knows about him this year
so basically, they’re built around offense.. a great offense at that, but Pitching wins . . . which is why I think the CHICAGO WHITE SOX have a great chance in the AL
I think they definitely win the AL CENTRAL . .. and with their offense to go with their pitching, they can outscore teams when needed too … a little of a darkhorse, but I think they’re the team to watch this year
Obviously the Phillies are going 11-0 in the postseason, but otherwise:
White Sox over Reds in the World Series ….

Don, you beat me to the punch. I like the Red Sox for the division, but don’t think they have a playoff caliber pitching staff. Same goes for the Rockies in the West. Toronto and the As are going to be very tough this year, but the Jays will fade in Aug as their young staff tires (look out for 2012 though).
NLE Phils
NLC Brewers
NLW Rox
WC Giants
Braves and Reds just miss the WC in the last week of the season
Phils beat the Giants, Brewers the Rox, Phils beat the Brewers
ALE Red Sox
ALC WSox
ALW As
WC Rangers (I think the ALE is too tough this year for any team besides the div winner to break 90 games).
WSox beat the RSox, As take the Rangers, WSox take the As, Wsox lose to the Phils in the WS.
Guaranteed or your money back.

Good lord guys! (I mean Pat, Mike, et tu Amanda??) –
First of all, I thought I was the only one really skeptical of the offense – if the offense kicks in, the division and the NL is ours. If the offense keeps up, the WS is ours too – now, the ST games revealed nothing. The only things we know is that Chase, Brown and Lidge will not be starting the season with the regulars. We also know that Chollie and company et al have decided that Orr and Martinez are the only new entries to the lineup – Baez, Herndon, Kendrick instead of Stutes, Zags (I cannot believe I am saying that) and Mathieson who all had better spring results.
Tomorrow we start peeps – I see Hamels staring out slowly (what is up with that?), Blanton? Who knows – a slight winning record in April will definitely be a good thing!

I think my official picks are:
Phillies, Reds, Giants, Brewers … not much of a shift of power from last year
RedSox, White Sox, Angels, Yankees
Phillies over Brewers
Reds over Giants
Phillies over Reds in NLCS
RedSox over Angels
White Sox over Yankees
White Sox over RedSox in ALCS

I’m starting to get a little worried with these injuries. We know Madson can’t really close too well, so I agree with giving the job to Contreras…but boy is that a scary thought. We better hope there’s a bunch of 5-0 and 6-0 games going into the 9th inning this game, but something has to be settled by June/July so there’s no question who’s the closer come playoff time. As for the rest of the baseball world, I’ve got another preview to check out: http://sportstatistics.blogspot.com/2011/03/best-day-of-year.html

Wow. One person thinks we have a chance against the Red Sox. The Red Sox scare me, but come on now. Talk about downplaying our advantages…
