Castillo Goes 0-4, Phils fall to Rays 4-1

Luis Castillo made us wait.  He was originally in the lineup for yesterday’s game but was a late scratch saying there was a miscommunication between Castillo and his agent.  Waiting to see the new Phillie in action you had to wonder if he would be worth the wait.  Well, not exactly.  Castillo had no hits in four at bats today against the Rays.  He did play second base and occupied the second spot in the lineup behind Jimmy Rollins.

Usually this Phillies team can overshadow an 0-fer day at the plate but hits did not come easy today.  Rays’ starter James Shields went seven innings and only allowed four hits.  Michael Martinez did have two hits for the Phillies playing third base.  Martinez is hitting .293 for the Spring.

Roy Oswalt started the game for the Phillies but didn’t make it out of the fourth inning.  Entering the fourth Oswalt had allowed one run and two hits while striking out four.  Evan Longoria took Oswalt deep to start the fourth and Manny Ramirez followed that up lining a ball right off ole Roy’s neck for a single.  Oswalt got up and sort of smiled before heading to the dugout as David Herndon finished the inning.  Oswalt should be fine and make his next scheduled start.  X-rays were negative on his neck/right ear area and he has been diagnosed with a neck bruise.  Breathe easy Nation.

Erik Kratz had the only RBI for the Phils and Jimmy Rollins, Pete Orr and Delwyn Young each collected one hit today.  Phillies take on the Twins tomorrow.

It’s ironic that on the day that Luis Castillo starts his Phillies career (however long or short that is) that 3 of the guys that are competing with him for one of those bench spots had hits….and he went 0 for 4. Not reading into it too much. Tomorrow he could have 3 hits and win the game. Funny game this baseball….

So that’s how the posts go to “0″…..if you comment without logging in like I just did the avatar changes or goes blank and the number of posts isn’t reflected. I wondered about that. Don’t mind me….just playing around.

He would have gone 4 for 4 yesterday but he missed the bus. So do tell, my friend The Dipsy, what leads you to this swift conclusion?

Castillo is really not looking very good so far. The pitchers have better batting averages, he’s hardly participated in any plays in the field, and he just got an error. If he’s trying to convince the Phillies that he’s still got something left in the tank, he’s doing a craptastic job of it.
