Still no Chase Utley – he continues to deal with soreness in his knee. But there is some Cliff Lee today. He gets his first real action of the spring, as that side sprain is well behind him. Look for Lee to keep up with the rest, throwing 25-30 pitches over a two inning stretch. Here is’ the Phillies lineup followed by the pitching order today:

Phillies
1. Rollins SS
2. Polanco 3B
3. Ibanez LF
4. Howard 1B
5. Francisco RF
6. Victorino CF
7. Brown DH
8. Schnieder C
9. Barfield 2B
Cliff Lee SP – Kyle Kendrick, Eddie Bonine, Dan Meyer, Danys Baez, Mike Zagurski

GO PHILLIES!

It will be interesting to see how Lee throws given the news recently about his muscle(s) strain. Also, let’s see if Bennie Fresh can build on that .571 average. And here’s hoping D-Brown gets off the schneid.

More importantly, I seemed to be more worried about Utley than most. I hope they’re right and I’m wrong. I looked up “patellar tendinitis ” up on the internet. This seems to be a chronic condition that the primary treatment for is……………rest.

    rest?

    REST????????

How the hell do you rest when you play 2B for a major league baseball team??? One week into ST he needs to take a couple of weeks off to rest the knee??? What’s it going to be like in June after 60 games? Is he going to have to take little two week vacations throughout the seasn???

As I said – I hope I’m just being paranoid.

Judging by the tone and language of that post, I would be surprised if you weren’t

OK, this is very weird… I’m watching Gameday, and Eddie Bonine is pitching against the Tigers. I gather he’s currently part of the Phillies system, but he was in the Tigers system last year, and they’re still showing his picture with a Tigers cap. So it looks like a Tiger is pitching against the Tigers. No wonder he’s doing such a craptastic job! (5 H / 2 R / 2 IP)

    Yikes. Dom Brown 0 for 3, 2Ks.

Clifton struck out 3 in 2 innings but allowed a couple runs.

    Whatever.

I never put much stock in Spring Training pitching lines. The pitchers, especially in their firt appearance, are usually trying to work out their pitches and get that game feel back. Hitters tend to be more indicative of how they may continue to play (see Ibanez’s dreadful spring last season which carried over into the season), but Dom Brown looks really lost and baffled. He needs to start the season in the minors to get his confidence back.

I agree. At this point I’m more worried about his head than anything else. The worst thing they can do his bring him up north and then give him limited at bats – which is what they did last year.

I think they have to either bring him up and play – and let him work through whatever issues he has. Or, keep him in the minors so he can stay sharp.

I’m confident that Cholly and RAJ can keep his psyche intact if he has to go to the minors – I hope

Well, Ben Fran is certainly making his case known for a fulltime job. What does THAT do to Brown. If that’s the case then I say let him start the season at Lehigh Valley and see where it goes.
